It was a girls vacation week (just 2 of us - age = late 40's) and we arrived November 25/06-December 2/06. We were told that it was the perfect time - right after Thanksgiving. The week before was chaos at the Villa Del Palmar and everywhere else in town. My second visit to Cabo thru a timeshare exchange.! Had a 1 bedroom with a view of the upper pool. The front desk was very accomodative when I asked for a pool/ocean view. (what a nice change!!)We were shown the room and asked if it was "okay". DO NOT CONSIDER PURCHASING the all inclusive because it's not worth the $.
Internet cafe on the grounds is great, but cheaper in town and the bistro cafe serves good sandwiches and pasta salads for lunch. Yes, the market is expensive, but what did you expect? You're staying at a resort and they're ALL the same anywhere you go.. So don't whine about it, just be smart! Go to the grocery store in town and purchase some breakfast stuff, beverages etc. and stock it in your refrigerator.
Two tennis courts on site which are in great shape. The spa/gym area is small but useable. current size = 12K sq. feet. New facilities opening Feb/07 (if they're on schedule) which will be 36K sq. feet. We purchased a spa package $160.00 for the two of us (1 50 minute massage each , free gym useage every day as well as use of the showers, whirlpool, steam shower. Good deal. ) Daily charge for the gym alone = $8.00-$12.00 daily (sorry can't remember exact $). The water temp in the pools was a bit cool, but manageable. Upper pool is quieter. The whale slide entrance is at this level and goes in to the pool below (all of the exercise classes are held in the lower pool and all children are in that one or the other small kids pool). The bed was great with no complaints., yes the "safe" in the room is very small and their pull out beds are horrid just like in most USA timeshares . (my children have used them in the past) The best pullout beds are at Mayan Palaces because they're heavy duty foam. Try not to book directly with Villa Del Pal Mar because it's way too expensive. Try a web site where you can rent a timeshare. You can walk into town via the road (1 mile walk), take a cab, catch a bus. It's really convenient because it's the last place to stay on the old beach road where the bus stops. (outside of the main property gate). We did a couple of timeshare presentations, received a lot of "free" stuff that we negotiated and had a busy week. Strolling around the marina area is nice and comfortable in the early/late evening. Ruth Chris's food was great, the service was a bit slow, but... You can find a lot of great restaurants by chatting with people. Mi Casa is a usual favorite by the old town square. If you're cordial, have an open mind, you'll get all of your questions answered and make new friends. Most of the locals are very friendly and helpful and a lot of fun. Cabo has grown in the last 2 1/2 years and the trend is continuing. It seems that one has to continuously stay in newer hotels/timeshares because of better amenities (I guess we US and Canadian travellers are just spoiled)

Just got back from Cabo. I absolutely love it there and have been their six other times. Also, have been all over Mexico over 20 times so I am use to the Mexican Way!! This was the WORST experience I have ever had. There were 6 couples on this trip and we all booked through Apple Vacations at Villa Del Palmar. We all also paid extra for "ocean view" and requested king beds. When we checked in we were informed that there was a group of 500 jewish people. Of course, none of us got ocean view rooms, these must have been the last rooms they had, they smelled bad and had a view of the garden or were poolside where there were tons of unruly, loud children running around. We went back to the front desk and they basically blew us off. Offered other rooms but they were all basically the same crap. 3 of the couples went next door to La Estancia and paid double the original price but had incredible accomadations and it was quiet and great. The rest of us paid an addition $400 to move to the "timeshare" area and at least have decent rooms although still no or limited ocean view. Although the TV didn't work and the toilet was broken and we had to have someone come at midnight so the room wouldn't get flooded.
Then with this huge group, restaurants were closed, we were told we could not go into certain areas because it was blocked off for this group, events that they normally have ie: Mexican fiesta, beach party, and other pool activities were cancelled - I could go on and on about all the inconveniences.
The last resort was spending over an hour with the GM who said we should not have been inconvenienced but of course did nothing!! Also admitted that they should not have taken this group but they thought with 500 people they would be able to sell more timeshares. I didn't realize a resort was only looking to sell timeshare.
Stay someplace else but not at Villa Del Palmar.

I didn't book this hotel, my Step-Mom did. She found the hotel through the Cabo Wabo site. I guess Sammy Haggar gets a cut for everyone he sends there.
I'm grateful for the free trip. However, it did cost my Dad & her over $2 grand for a 5 day stay for just me and my husband in a 1 bedroom suite, not including all the eating out and activites we did through out the week. There was a total of 6 of us in our group. My Dad, Step-Mom and thier 2 friends stayed in a 2 bedroom suite, that looked just like our suite. The total for the 5 days at the hotel was around $15 grand.
We ate at the Baja California restuarant 2 times, ordered to our room 2 times and booked the ATV tour through the hotel.
The employees at the restuarant & bar where very nice but very slow. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the staff to acknowledge you, even when there is no more than 2 other tables. Room services was always cold, the coffee pot was broken one morning so we had to use a knife to pry open the top inorder to get the coffee out. Oh, let me let you in on this, you don't get silverware or coffee cups when you order room service. All the rooms have kitchenettes in them with cookware and dishware, and you are responsible for cleaning your own dishes, maidservice won't do it. So if you order roomservices you will have to wash your own silverware and glasses or cups.
From the time we arrived they wanted to give us a welcome package. Don't fall for this, it is a time share gimmick. My Dad & Step-Mom fell for it and wasted 4 hours of their first day. The timeshare lady kept asking what they didn't like about Cabo and my Dad finally said he didn't know because he has spent more time in the timeshare sales room than in actual Cabo. All they got for thier time was a $7 per person glass bottom boat tour.
It was very nice and quite for the first 2 days, then a family of over 200 came in. Now for the family that was all kosher jewish, I'm sure that they were very happy. The hotel completely accomidated them. They even shut down one of the 2 restuarants for them, so thier food could stay completely kosher. However for us that meant that no matter if it rained or not we had to use the outside restuarant . One night the electricity went out, along with the water pump, so we could take a shower after along day of fishing. Our choices came down to room service or eating at the out side restaurant in the rain. Since the food was always cold when it came from room service and we couldn't go into town for dinner, because we couldn't take a showeer to get the fish smell off, we ate at the out door restuarant. My steak was good, but my husbands fish wasn't cooked all the way. It didn't rain, but it did sprinkle off and on, and it was cold. They also cancelled all normal scheduled activites because of the family as well. The staff was needed to attend to them.
This is not a hotel for people who are not into lots of kids running around unattended, up and down the halls, or want to relax by the pool. The pool was all screaming children, with speakers blarring loud dance music and a guy yelling over the music trying to conduct activites for the large family.
I will say that the room was comfortable, so was the bed, and the water was filtered so you could actually drink the water from the faucet. However, the room was very dark no matter what time of day and how many lights you had on and the couch was horrible uncomfortable. Do not use the grocery store that is on property! $4.80 for a travel size toothpaste and deorderent and $24 for sunblock, yes I said $24.

Overrated and overpriced. The quality of the service and food is inconsistent -- sometimes good, sometimes lousy. This is billed as a 5-star hotel, but by U.S. standards it is more like a 3-star. The room and food prices are comparable to a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton, but don't expect anything close to the high service level those hotels provide.

Also, don't expect a Heavenly Bed. The mattresses are a bit lumpy. The convertible sofa bed had some broken springs, so the sleeping surface was uneven.

The hotel provides shampoo, but not conditioner. The in-room safe is very small. The on-site grocery store is quite expensive, even after the 20% discount coupon. Getting a computer for internet access is not a problem, and the rate of $5/half hour is decent.

Note that the hotel charges extra for a crib. The Kids in Paradise club is more of a glorified babysitting service. The woman working there didn't seem friendly.

If you buy the all-inclusive package, it is not really all inclusive. At some meals, they post a sign stating that tips are not included. Certain beverages, such as Mexican coffee are not included.

The pool with the waterslide is very noisy. This noise spills over into the upper pool. The pools by the outdoor restaurant/bar are quieter and kid-friendly.

It is sometimes impossible to get a lounge on the beach. Try to get a lounge away from the stairs because the peddlers congregate at the bottom of the stairs.

Timeshare sharks are not a problem.

Take lots of small denomination U.S. bills. $100 bills are tough to break, and sometimes even a $20 is tough if you don't want to end up with pesos. Locals will give you change at 10 pesos to the dollar, but most will accept 10 pesos to the dollar.

If the room and food prices were much lower and reflected the quality levels, then the stay would have been much more satisfying. You should have fun at the hotel, but set your expectations low and don't expect good value for your money.

Please read this before you book. This hotel was the worst, I mean everything from the front desk service to the food was terrible. The staff was very rude, unhelpful and outright insulting! They treated us as if we were an inconvenience to them! We will not ever return to this hotel, there are far better for the price.
