Good Points:
1. Clean rooms
2. Nice landscaping
3. Knowledgeable concierge
4. Could bargain with beach vendors
5. Not too far from town- we walked a couple of times, but it was kind of hot and dusty
6. Coconut Pineapple ice cream at the Villa del Palmar market was delicious
7. Rooms were decent for the price
8. Beach was clean and we had a nice view of "El Arco."
9. Service was friendly
10. View from poolside restaurant at night was romantic
Bad Points
1. Sales people harassed us even after we told them we were not interested. We couldn't walk outside of the front doors without being followed and questioned. They did not understand the meaning of the word, "No!" This is one of the main reasons we won't return to Villa del Palmar. If you see a salesman named "Damien" run for your life!!!
2. Beds and pillows were uncomfortable- too hard!
3. No authentic mexican food- there was an Italian restaurant, but we came to Mexico for Mexican food, not Italian. The dinners were decent, but we found the lunches to be below average and costly.
4. Hotel states that they "sweep" the pool hourly to remove towels and items left unattended on beach chairs. This was not true. Not once, during our week long stay, did we get a chair in the pool area. We saw chairs draped with towels sit empty for hours each day. We never observed anyone employeed by the hotel remove items from empty chairs.
5. "Girls Gone Wild" type of activities were going on the public beach area down the way. We were thankful that our children were not along to see high school girls gyrate their crotches in horny males' faces. (This wasn't right next to the resort, but it was in the nearby area.)
6. Water taxis almost ran over swimmers. There wasn't a roped off area for wave runners and water taxis to "dock."
7. The hotel states that they have a "swimmable beach." We found the waves to be extremely rough. A few teenagers were able to tread water a few feet out, but the waves pounding the shore pulled me under and I ended up with a swollen and bruised ankle and had a few cuts on my legs. I don't advise letting young children in the water at all. When I was pulled under, my husband tried to pull me to safety, but couldn't see me for all of the churning sand.
8. Pina Colados and Margaritas left much to be desired and the wait staff never came by to ask if we wanted a drink. We had to track down employees for service.
9. Our room was in the lobby area. It was way too loud at night. Footsteps and voices echoed off of the tile floors. We tried placing our bedspread at the bottom of the door to buffer noise, but it did not help.
10. No free shuttle to town- taxi was $7.00 one way
Cool places to see in town:
1. Eat at Mi Casa- the Mexican restaurant- food was excellent as was atmosphere
2. Pepe's Taco stand also had great food (We found out about Mi Casa, Pepe's and The Office from a local)
3. Breakfast at The Office was the best- you sit with your toes in the sand and they have the best Pina Colados (Be warned - Later in the day the Office is next to the "Girls Gone Wild" type of activities)
4. Take a sunset cruise- we went on a catamaran "Pez Gato"
5. Wave runners are best later in the day- we went mid-afternoon and it was crowded and a bit dangerous for first timers. In contrast 4:30-5:30 in the evenings are much calmer.
6. If you miss the states, go to the mall- There are several restaurants found in America that are located on the marina side of the mall.
7. We went horseback riding, which was very cool, but be warned- the saddles were wooden with thin padding. This left sore thighs and bottoms. Ouch!
We will go back to Cabo. It was beautiful, but we will stay at a different resort.
