My husband and I stayed at the Villa del Palmar Jan 21 - 28, 2006. We were guests of timeshare owners. We set up a shuttle beforehand which was extremely convenient. I found the timeshare sales more confusing than annoying because they disguise themselves as staff of the airport or hotel. So, I was leery of who to talk to as I did not want to get stuck listening to a timeshare speech.

The resort was very clean, and I found the staff to be helpful. We arrived early at the hotel about an hour before check in on Saturday, and had keys to our room right away. We listened to the timeshare speech the first morning. It was worth our time because they talked to us over a free breakfast at the new resort next door (Villa del Arco) and let us tour the new suites as well as the property. So - it did not feel like a waste of our time.

With the coupons we received at check-in and the gold card discount, the rates at the hotel restaurants and the grocery store were reasonable. The nightly entertainment could be loud, but it ends by 10pm and the bedrooms are in the back of the suites - so I don't think that noise would be a major issue for sleeping. Overall I was pleased with the resort.

I recommend Pez Gato tours - we went snorkeling and took the sunset cruise. The sunset cruise had about 50 people as opposed to 150-200 crowded on the bigger boats. We saw whales on both tours, and saw a whale jump completely out of the water on the sunset cruise. It was unbelievable.

We had dinner at DeGeorgios. It was expensive and the portions were rather small. The men at our table were unhappy about that. But - the view is really beautiful. It opens at 5pm.

Hotel is well kept and very nice. Lives up to the Mexico 4 stars. The maids did an amazing job of cleaning up the room each day.

We stayed at the Villa Del Palmar Dec. 31-Jan. 7. We booked our stay through worry free vacations and got a great deal for Cabo. We went on this trip for a fun winter getaway from the Minnesota winter, and were hoping to not have to break the bank while we were there, but Cabo is as expensive as you read! Upon arrival, we were impressed with the hotel grounds and all the activities. We read every review on this place on trip advisor, and we felt well informed that we picked a good hotel. And overall, this is a nice place to stay, the beds were actually comfortable for Mexico!

The grocery store across the street was great. They didn't have a huge assortment, but you could get the basics like mac and cheese, cereal, munchies, etc. It was great having the store there because the food at the resort was overpriced for the quality.

There were a few disappointments though, it took the bell boys about an hour and a half to bring up our luggage when we first got there. Staying in the main tower is noisy. Sound echos up the whole building...if you get a room here, work to get moved!

A few pointers to get your ready for your stay: The activity staff will be walking around every day to get to try to persuade you to go to the shows each night. We never saw a show, but heard they're ok, but the food was so-so and it was at least $40 per person. Bingo by the pool is fun each day at 2pm, and costs $5 a card. They play black-out and the winner gets the pot! Get down and save your beach chair spots by like 8:30 am if you want an umbrella. Just run your towels down there and a few magazines, and get back to them within a hour. Go into town to eat, it is a bit cheaper. Taxi rides are $7 one way, and water taxi can be as cheap as $4 each, one way. Water taxis are hard to get after 5pm this time of year though. You can walk into town safely too, but the walk is weird, like you are walking through alleys, and takes about 20 minutes to get to Hard Rock.

Eat at Ponchos downtown, it's fabulous, and the most Mexican we felt while we were in Cabo. The Marina is very Americanized! We loved Ponchos, safe, great food, and ambiance! Don't bother with Margaritavilla, it's on the marina, and has terrible food for too much money.

We received two free snorkling tix, the gold card and a 1/2 hour massage for going on the Le Estancia tour, their time share hotel next door. The tour only took 2 hours, and was fun, but we only did it for the free stuff!

The snorkeling tour was on La Princesa. It was a fun catamaran ride, 1 hour out to the bay, 1 hour in the bay to snorkel, and 1 hour back. They give you all the drinks you want, but the advertised great fish lunch meal...was actually tuna sandwiches! We didn't see great fish though like in the caribbean. So, if just go for the free beer and boat ride.

Stay at the Villa Del Palmar thru II exchange. Nice suite on the edge of property so the nightly theme dinner show/music was no problem. Also able to connect to WiFi of the Le Estancia since that resort is right across from out suite. No need to use the $5/hr charge for internet at the Deli. Suite was nice and bed was fine with us. The 2 of us had a 1BD/2BA suite in building 4 on the 7th floor. All in all, we would stay here again. No comments on the ammenities at the resort as we had a car and was always out checking out the whole Baja area.

Well, let me just say that the hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. We got there at 2:50 pm and according to our itinerary we check in at 3pm, when attempted to check in they said check in was not until 4pm. Also, while we were waiting in line the timeshare representative pulled us aside and attempted to inform us of information (even gave us free drinks) only to try to sell us a timeshare. Once she found out that the guy at the airport already signed us up (a tip we got off this site, get the timeshare at the airport and you get more free stuff, gold card, water taxi, sunset cruise, bottle of tequila & $50 dinner credit to Despardo's in town!) she basically she didn't want to spend any time with us, or give us any details about the hotel or the island like she promised.

Then we were going to our room and about 6 more timeshare representatives disguised as hotel information were asking us if we had a gold card. We were in our room and a lady called us down to the hotel lobby to offer us drinks & a gold card as an invitation package until they discovered we already had an appointment for the timeshare, so I asked for our free drinks anyway. After we went on the timeshare it seemed like every hotel staff member knew, we were never bothered again!

The beach is great, many vendors trying to sell stuff but they have to stay behind the line. The rooms were clean and adequate, according to the timeshare rep. they are 10 yrs old, nothing fancy.

You have to go to The Office, Mango Deck & Billigan's for happy hour (2 for 1 drinks) and great entertainment. The gold card was never used for food once we got it! They do give good discounts for 20% off souvenirs at their market and 15% sandwiches at their deli (these seemed to be good deals). Make sure to haggle with the vendors, there is lots of competition and they will still make a lot of money. Don't let them fool you! Have fun, relax and enjoy the view of el arcos...I would go back, I might try a different hotel closer to the action though, I need something to compare villa to!

We had a group of 5 adults & 1 child. We transfered to Villa Del Palmar, San Lucas after a day in Melia Cabo Real, Corridor. V.D.P. tries to be a classy resort, but still needs some improvements. Clean updated rooms. Food was okay, not great. Since Los Cabos is a desert, food is usually imported there from other places, & it's not always best quality, especially fruits & vegetables. Very nice Spa. Very nice pools, nice beach, kind of windy there, pretty strong waves on the ocean, many activites during the day, but need more after sundown. Weather: very nice and sunny almost always during the day, but gets to 60's, 50's after sundown (can't swim anymore). At the restaurants takes a long time before the food is served, but at least it is clean and nice. Best if you go w/ All-Inclusive Plan, otherwise too expansive. Overall you feel good and relaxed there.
