I read all the reviews AFTER I selected this resort, I wish I had before. I'm a timeshare owner, 15 years, not at this resort.... and I wouldn't suggest buying here. Too expensive for a 30 year grant. And don't believe them when they say you'll be able to exchange and get into Hawaii.... not true. Everyone was right about the timeshare sales people. From the time you get off the plane till half way thru my stay (July 17-24, 2004) I was hounded to go see this property or that. I must say I saved a bundle on resort food with the Gold Card... mine took 3 hrs not the 90 min as they say. Oh and make sure that you ask for Free Snorkle trips, Sunset Cruise, Airport Cab fare BEFORE you agree to see ANY timeshare... they will agree to lots of free or discounted stuff, just to get you to sit down with them and listen to their pitch.
I suggest that if you go to any resort in Cabo to get rent a car (cabs, actually vans, are $$$$) the 1st day and drive around... Costco is just north of town and Sarianas (a Mexico type of Walmart) is on Hwy 19 on the westside and they have a great selection of veggies and fresh fish. There is a city bus that is real cheap, is great if you speak Spanish. Also having a car will help you find all the places you see in all the brochures and know where they are if you want to walk there. Oh and make sure you arrange your return airport transportation to the airport at least 24 hrs head... I didn't know that. If there are 4 in your group, get a cab $55.00, the same price as the shuttle bus and no stops.
When you check-in (Villa del Palmar) make sure they don't put you anywhere near one of the sales offices... you'll get hear high heal shoes every morning at 7:30. Yes, the bedrooms are right on the hallway and even though they are carpeted you hear people talking. There is a glass block window next to the bed and a light in the hall that shines in all night and the curtains won't close all the way. There is no dish washer, the lights are all dim, Channel 9 has a bad hum in the audio, the Pay-per-View didn't work, the beds are real FIRM!!! and there isn't enough lounges at the pool so take your towel and a book and get down there early. The hot tub near the beach is the best and the bar is right next to it. They have a wood fired pizza oven and it's very good. The party nights... are ok, all you can eat and drink runs from $25-$35 per person so if you are real hungry and thirsty go for it. They do have a very nice Spa.... DO NOT use the honor bar items unless you want to spend a fortune.... Buy a case of Corona at Costco.
If you like the beaches of Cancun you will be very sad with the Cabo beaches. The sand is VERY course... great for making your feet shed several layers of skin. The beach vendors are really not a big problem, just so NO as you walk away.... the timeshare guys will disguise their pitch with free maps etc. etc. and they don't like to take NO for an answer.
Nice side trip is to Todos Santos, a 90 min drive N on Hwy 19, Hotel California (the Eagles song was inspired by this place) has good food and the city has a lot of galleries.
Over all I had a relaxing time, I won't go back anytime soon as I like the Cancun area better. There are too many places to go and see to return here next year.
