This was the worst vacation I've ever had. We did a timeshare exchange and have been in Mexico twice before and enjoyed those places thoroughly (Royal Islander at Cancun & Sheraton Resort in Puerta Vallarta). Of ocurse some of it relates to our coming in August - extremely hot & humid, and flying from NY - torturously long trip (20 hr-day return trip). BUT... there is a long laundry list of other stuff. Several cases of being given wrong information by staff and by UVC (Universal Vacation Club - through whom we bought the all-inclusive pkg) . Time-share vultures masquerade as 'concierge staff'' and are on you all the time. The on-site activities include loud bingo games at poolside that you cannot escape from unless you leave the resort. Loud, endless Mexican music blaring all day long and into the evening. I tried to escape by going to my unit but had to cover both ears with pillows to take a nap. I felt like leaving the 2nd day we were there but hoped it would get better. It got worse. The food in the on-site restaurants is just fair and gets boring after a few days with same basic menus. The food prices on the menus is expensive. We bought the meal pkg for 6 days and it was expensive as well (over $1,000). But the alternative - which I could not evaluate well from home before making a decision - would have been a blind alley including renting a car to shop and eat elswhere sometimes, REQUIRED PUTTING 10% of the car's value on my credit card IN CASE IT WAS STOLEN. A local paper called The Gringo Gazzette had a 'satirical' article stating that San Jose, an adjacent town - is the stolen car capital of Baja. So many other people I met there had absurd/enraging experiences with being misled. One staff guy at a poolside kiosk where I was buying sunset cruise tkts to accompany people we met there, threatened to cancel my reservation AND my friends' if I did not come back from my room to pay him immediately. My friends had already purchased there tkts! AND they were told the cruise included a buffet. They told me next day there WAS NO BUFFET! It goes on and on. One woman I met there got tkts for a glass bottom boat-ride with her family. They were told they could baord any boat that comes by the beach. They did and once aboard, and presented the tkts, were told it was no good on this boat. She was so stressed she sprained her ankle getting off the boat and was handicapped and in pain for the rest of her family's vacation. Two days before we left I had $200 stolen from my wallet. My best analysis is that it was taken from my locked locker while I was getting a massage at Desert Spa, an on-site massage place there. I won't go into detail here about whay I suspect this but - obviously - whoever the thief was - it was quite upsetting. I would not go back there if they paid me to. Just punishment.
