After reading many of the recent reviews before going to Cabo, I was a little weary of the Villa Del Palmar. However, I was pleasantly suprised by the experience.
True, the place is a bit dated but the rooms are clean and if you have an ocean view its very nice (we did not experience any strange smells or noisy neighbors and the housekeeping staff was very responsive both when our toilet backed up and when we needed extra towels).
If you lay on the beach the vendors will approach you, so we just walked down for a dip in the ocean and sat out by the pool (get a chair with an ocean view and its lovely!). The pool area is nice but beware that you dont lose the one and only towel they will give you or you will be charged $25. Happy hour at the pool bar starts at 4pm with 2 for 1 drinks which is great!.
Breakfast at the restaurant was good and reasonably priced if you opt for an entree instead of buffet. Service is definitely slow especially if you want to pay cash instead of room charge. One time we ordered a round of drinks which they brought but we never got the bill after asking for it twice so we just left and got our drinks for free!!!
I highly recommend the Desert Spa at Villa Del Arco next door to Villa Del Palmar. I had a fantastic massage there and the spa is brand new and gorgeous. If we went back to Cabo, I would try to book a room at Del Arco over Palmar because its brand new and the pool is nicer.
This was my first trip to Cabo and I would summarize it this way; its a great place to go for 4 days and I would definitley go back. It wouldn't be my first choice for a vacation but for a cheap and easy flight from S. CA and reasonable hotel rooms its worth it for a quick getaway.
If you dont leave the resort you can escape the "Mexico factor" aka - children begging for money and people in your face trying to sell you something. I was practically accosted at the airport!
I enjoyed my trip to Cabo, its no Hawaii, but its still fun!
