“Great all-inclusive family trip--even better service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

We returned last week from 5 days at Villa del Palmar in Cabo. We read many reviews before the trip, so we were prepared for the timeshare sell on day 1. Once this is behind you, it will be an excellent trip. I have 2 very active boys, and the daily events and staff were better than I had expected. As long as you are friendly, the staff is very helpful and you can eat and drink non-stop. Be prepared to sign for everyting as you order, we tipped at the end of the day. I wouldnt purchase any upfront activity vouchers, negotiate those as needed.

Pros: Event staff is very kid-friendly, Erik, Eva, and the crew are talented, caring, fun people, and our kids loved it. Guests thought our son Nicholas worked there he was so engaged!!

Rooms are fine, large enough, beds are a little soft.

Cons: Check-in will take awhile during peak hours, give your kids something to do.

Overall a great time, we will try the Cancun resort next year!

I spent 4 nights at the Villa del Palmar with a group of 7 other guys (on a bachelor party.) The all-inclusive option was good for us because we drank so much, but the food quality isn't quite as good as the local restaurants (which are excellent.) Here are some of the pros and cons in my view:

Pros:
All inclusive option for food and beer, shots, margaritas, daqueries, wine
Fun whale slide for the kids and the young at heart
Very comfortable and wide king size beds
Adjustable air conditioning in each bedroom and living room
Full kitchen
Nightly dinner buffet entertainment was amusing
Flatscreen TVs with HDMI inputs, DVD player

Cons:
You have to pay for wifi (per device) and it didn't extend to our rooms (3716 and 3722)
Pool water wasn't very clean looking
Resort is a pretty far walk from town
Beach is very steep - too dangerous for younger kids to play in the gulf

Room Tip: You probably don't want a room facing the pool if you want to sleep well. Also, wifi signals ar...

We were lured back into the spiders web of falsehoods by Fun and Sun vacations who gets potential buyers to come on down for discounted rates in exchange for a 90 minute timeshare presentation. We were greeted by a room totally decked out different than what we were promised. i.e. 2 double beds instead of what we paid for a King and a rollaway. We protested, it fell upon deaf ears, now my wife has to sleep with our 11 year old in one bed and me alone in the other everyone is miserable to make matters worse the air conditioning is almost getting the room down to 78 and some sort of humidifier is making the room sweat from floor to ceiling. the beds are so soft they are absurd, again we complained and they offered us a rollaway for a extra $16 a night and another room for a additional $50. $66 more a night for what we were promised?? Not on my watch. The presentation was hard sell high pressure and lasted twice as long as they stated it would. The sales staff were badgering and rude, the product average and expensive. We were treated second class but had the option to buy and get a free upgrade. The pools were filthy and crowded. The selection of food was a bit scarce.. The food was OK except for the plague of birds invading our breakfasts and eating the food and crapping on us and our table and food. The staff was excellent, the service was second to none, very good drinks, TV good, housekeeping excellent, view of Sams Club parking lot was a joke, entertainment was better than most, the grounds were very well groomed, the property in general was great, My advice is stay away from the offers for timeshare and go to the Riveria Playa pay a little more and get a LOT better value.....

Room Tip: Forget about the Timeshare so called deals. Use Apple or Cheap Carribean to book a deal for you in t...

Long story short; from food to accommodations, and location this is where you want to stay. It's not noisy and it's about a 15 minute walk to downtown for the option of the more upbeat night life.
Overall, good food, clean rooms, variety of things to do, kayaking, snorkeling, para sailing, wave runners, long walks on the beach, 2 pools (adults/ kids), pool bar, Bingo, karaoke, sports bar.

Room Tip: choose the Junior suite at bare minimum

We stayed at the villa the last two weeks in march 2013 and had a great time. we bought at the villa Jan. 1995 and have been going back every year since. This year we chose the last two weeks of March because it is the end of spring break and we found it to be less noisy, less drunks, and a lot less people coming back from town at 2 O:CLOCK in the morning. We always have a great stay, never eat at the hotel, always walk into town to eat in the evenings as there are too many restuarants to chose from, especially the ones off on the side streets. We eat at all of them, drink the house water and have yet to become sick. I have no problem with the staff as we have always been treated really good and being nice can go a long way toward solving a problem. Let me say this DO NOT BUY AT THE ARCO you will have a very hard time being able to get in for a vacation. My son bought 4 years ago and hasnt been able to get in. That hotel is over sold and over booked. As far as the ocean at the villa is concerned, I and many others have been swimming that beach since 1995, sometimes in surf that will come all the way up tothe flat surface in front of the wall. THERE IS NO UNDERTOW NOR IS THERE ANY RIP TIDES ON THIS BEACH!!!!! What you have is wash back that will carry you down to the spot you see the water breaking and then will push you back up the beach. I watched a boy about ten years old ride the water up and down the beach for about thirty minutes without standing up and he was having a great time. All in all we enjoy the hotel even with all of its flaws because the staff can help overcome them. One other thing, I dont care if you are on all inclusive (which we would never do, to exspensive) tip the staff, it can go a long way. By the way, I am almost 72 and still hitting the waves at the hotel.
JOEEE

Room Tip: rooms pool side as high as you can and as far toward the ocean as possible

We had a party of 7 that enjoyed 7 nights here. Our room was fabulous, the housekeeping was great. It started with Ivan, the Bellman. Then Gaby at the front desk, we were early she figured out a way to get us in our room early. Towels ,Entertainment, Food Service: Enrique, Maria Elena, Eric, Arie, Dani, Beth, Carmen, Jose, Liz, Hector, Esther. You can't get better than we had. Sometimes the food and drinks came a bit slowly but that would be my only complaint. Always greeted with a smile, the property is well taken care of. We had two spa days, the girls there were fabulous. If you can go, do it!

we stayed at the Villa Del Palmar June 1-June 8th, 2013. The resort is a bit dated, but overall rooms were clean and resort is well kept. We had a 2 bedroom unit with 3 full bathrooms, and our friends had a studio unit. Both with full Kitchens which we loved. Kitchen was stocked with dishes, etc. We were missing a coffee maker upon arrival but they brought us one.

We stayed here on an exchange through Interval. The bummer part is we paid a lot of money for our timeshare and there were people here that said they paid like 400 each (or couple --either way less than us!) and were all inclusive as long as they did time share presentation. That was discouraging as we didn't do the all inclusive due to wanting to try other food in the area, etc. but these peole all around us were there for pennies on the dollar.

The market on the property has a deli, and overall extremely nice and well stocked! Prices are a little high for some things, but it is very convenient. The food we had was Pizza a couple of nights, we attended one of the dinner shows and we had nacho's, etc. once out on the beach. Food overall was good. Dinner show food was just ok. Not that great.

The beds were comfortable and having 3 full bathrooms was fantastic. We did feel the room needs an upgrade, etc. but it is very functional.

The Negatives: The pool closes at 10:00 pm even on friday and saturday night. Their is only two bars, the lobby bar and the pool bar. The pool bar closed at 10 or earlier, I can't remember but the Lobby bar closed at 10:30 every night. Being in Mexico we weren't out roaming the town too late during most nights and being able to hang out and have some cocktails would have been nice, but they close very early. We were disappointed in this. Also there is a fabulous firepit you can sit around at night but again closes at 10:00 and they turn it off and make sure you leave. Also, we wanted to have a bloody Mary one morning and the bar wasn't open at 9:00 am yet...I think they start serving at 10:00 am or something.

The timeshare situation is an issue (although we are owners of marriott) they were extremly pushy. We did attend the presentation as they offered some sweet deals if you did, but we did not buy one again. Be prepared for major pressure selling if you go.

We did go to Walmart and stock up on supplies, snacks, water for our room once we arrived. We love doing that. We don't like to eat out for every meal and this makes it very convenient. Just realize you are in Mexico! Walmart is different and you have to search and understand the brands, prices, etc. it was a bit stressful!

We honestly had a fabulous vacation! We loved the bell boys out front. They were probably the most pleasant of all of the staff on the resort. Hector out on the beach was great. The people in the lobby bar were not all that nice or friendly in our opinion and quite slow. The taxi rides were $2.00 per person into town each time which was a great deal in our opinion. We had 7 people so $14 each way plus tip.

Would we stay here again? Most likely not mostly due to the night life being non-existant at the resort. Sometimes we like to have a late night swim, or a nightcap. At least 11:00 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends would make it so much more fun in our opinion.
