“Overall Good Place for the Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2011

Well, we arrived in Villa Del Palmar May 23 and were immediately greeted by the infamous time share scene. We had booked a King Room on hotels.com for 83 usd per night which I thought was a steal. Upon check in we were informed there were no rooms with a king left and we could have 2 double beds. I accepted, and got up to the room. We had an absolutely gorgeous view of Sams Club and Walmart across the street. The girlfriend was not to happy ! I went down to the front desk were they offered me to upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite for 70USD per night. I accepted and was given a room with beach access on the first floor . The rooms are older the beds are hard but other than that not too bad. The hotel staff at the pool are rather annoying. They are always doing something on the microphone. In order to relax we went and spent time at Villa Del Arco ( MUCH BETTER RESORT , yet more money ) . Pools are nicer, staff seems more professional , etc etc. Desert SPA is incredible. We spent two day at the spa and absolutely loved it. There are many many many beach vendors so get used to it. Time share sales are a joke, everyone knows how to sell a timeshare. This hotel tends to have a wilder crowd ( due to price ) and lots of kids )

DO NOT PLAN ON LATE CHECKOUT , it will cost you 100 USD

Also - for fishing enthusiast. Go negotiate a boat on the dock, you will literally pay half of what you will pay reserving on line. We got a 1800.00 Bertram Yacht for 900 since it wasnt going out the following day.

We also rented a car for 200.00 USD from EUROPCAR at the airport. overall good experience . I negotiated rental rates ( like anywere else in mexico ) and got full insurance coverage , gas , fees, and taxes included in the 200! They want you to take a car!

Also, if you catch a fish , take it to SOLOMONS LANDING on the marina , food is absolutely incredible regardless if they cook yours or you eat theirs!

Overall I give Cabo an A+ . The people , restauraunts , atmosphere, and scenery are all fantastic. If you have a choice , stay at Villa Del Arco, if not use Palmars cheap rates and take the free trolley service over to Arco ( it runs every five minutes ) We did not do all inclusive but looking back we should have ( at least for 3 days )

Room Tip: Book what you want initially , upgrades are rare

We have stayed at Villa Del Palmar a few times in Cabo and also at another resort. It wasn't until we stayed at the "other" resort that we realized what an awesome place Villa del Palmar is. They have the most wonderfully friendly staff, from the Bell hop/taxi stands outside to the front desk, yes even the time share sales staffers are friendly. Everyone seems to enjoy their job and take pride in it. We love this place and will always recommend and come back again and again. We will not return to the "other" side again.

Overall the place is nice. The staff is friendly and the room was kept clean. Downfalls.... We bought this week from a friend who is a timeshare owner. They tried to get us to take the tour but we declined. The first person we met was Dyana. We were to each get a free drink upon arrival. She gave us one ticket & said she would slip the other 2 under the door along with a roll away bed for our 4 year old. We also asked the person who brought our bags to our room about the roll away bed. Never saw the roll away bed & when I called Dyana on Wed for the 2 drink tickets she said she gave them to the door man & said she would make sure I got them. Nope didn't get them. It's the principal not the fact of getting 2 free drinks. When we arrived we went to their pool bar for 2 orders of nachos, 2 soups and 3 drinks. $120!!! And they won't let you pay with cash, you have to put it on your room tab. At end of your stay look at your bill. They charge you for tipping. If you tip your maid & waiters with cash, make sure they take it off your bill.

The cabs are $7 this year to town. Don't let them rip you off. You can walk to the bottom of the hill & catch the white bus (painting on window that says Walmart). That is only 8 pesos per person & will first go to walmart then to town. Take a taxi back tho. We went to Walmart & bought food for the week (don't expect the USA Walmart quality tho).
It is pretty far to walk to town from this hotel. You can walk on the beach but bring water shoes because the sand is course and your feet will be raw by the end of the week.

It was sunny and beautiful every day which was great! bring spf 70 sunscreen!! Eat at The Office on the beach - good food! Went fishing with Redrum Sport Fishing. Great crew! Caught a huge Marlin - husband was happy with his catch. Really good food for dinner at Cabo Wabo also.
Hope this helps with your stay at Cabo :-)

Finding what appeared to be a great deal on Cheap Caribbean, we were a little apprehensive about the resort. Most reviews on Trip Advisor were good so we went for it. Once we got past the airport frenzy, we couldn't have been happier with this resort or Cabo. This was our first trip to Cabo but definitely won't be our last. Villa Del Palmar has a great location directly across from the tip of Baja California on the Sea of Cortez. Cruise ships were constantly anchored within view.
The rooms were modern and very clean. I've seen other reviews stating the beds were not comfortable, but I spend at least 50 nights/yr in hotels and can say these were very comfortable beds. They do need to add more queen beds and get rid of the double beds though. I would say that 2 adults in a double bed was probably the most negative thing about this trip for us.
The resort is very family friendly so those looking for a lot a quiet time shouldn't expect it until after 9:00 PM. For our family with teens, that actually seemed a little early.
With our all-inclusive we could also enjoy Villa Del Palmar's sister resort, Villa Del Arco which is a short walk next door. VDA was much quieter and poolside service was the best we have ever experienced.
We did the all-inclusive so we didn't get to experience as much of the local restaurant life as we would have liked, but not having to worry about meals all the time was a plus. The breakfast buffet was always awesome with lots of fresh fruit, made to order omelets and much, much more. Other than breakfast, the buffets were so so. With the all-inclusive, you can also use the non-buffet resort restaurants and order off the menu. The food off the menu was good, and the pool bar always had good pizza anytime. The Buccaneer at Del Arco was great for burgers or fish tacos, etc. Other than that, they could stand to have a few more kid friendly entrees. Because the resort is not completely all-inclusive, we have to sign off on meals and drinks which was a bit of a nuisance.
The best thing about Del Palmar was the service. We've been a many resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean and have never had better service than here. The staff was extremely friendly and hard-working. It was great getting to know some of the staff. All speak English and most speak it very well.
The beach may be the best in Cabo. Beautiful sand and very swimmable water - though like everywhere in Cabo the currents are strong. There are plenty of beach vendors but they can't go up near the guests. We did buy a few things as they have many nice offerings, but found later that usually prices were cheaper at the flea market at the marina. For the ladies, it’s very reasonable to have the vendors come to your beach chair and braid your hair, etc.
One thing to be aware of, if like us, this is your first trip to Cabo, is arrival at the airport. Set your goal to get outside of the building. Once you've cleared customs, and you enter the room between the main airport and outside, prepare yourself to be bombarded by "official' looking agents who want to 'help you out". They are all salespeople for time share companies that are only there to set their hooks on you. Get outside to where the real transportation is.
Transportation from the airport to CSL is not cheap. This is one time I was glad that I booked private transportation ahead of time. IF you shop ahead, it's not much more than cab fare and is far more convenient. We'd recommend Arturo Sanchez at http://translobo.blogspot.com/. He was waiting at the airport with a sign with our name on it and treated us to a great ride to our hotel with no hassles. He was very informative and a pleasure to ride with in a current year Suburban.
All in all we couldn't have been happier with our experiences in Cabo and we'll definitely be back. Villa Del Palmar offered everything our family needed and more.

We really enjoyed the great beach, beautiful grounds, and very nice kid's pool. The staff was very accomodating and we never had any problem getting quick poolside service. However, we stayed close to the main party pool (with the whale slide) and it was really loud all day and into the evening hours. It made it hard to put our kid's down for a nap and into bed at night. The rooms are a bit dated. The rooms are not luxurious, but of course, our kid's couldn't care less about that. It's a good place for families, but next time we'd stay at a quieter hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room far away from the main pool

Our room was nice but we were put in a queen size bed. The bed was really uncomfortable. One of us actually sleep on the couch a couple of nights during our stay. We were led to believe that we signed up for an all inclusive package. However, when we got there we realized that there are only certain things that you are aloud to have at the bar and at the resturants. It was almost impossible to get a drink or anything to eat at this resort. We would go to the bar and they would just stare at you like your stupid and wouldnt help you. It was almost impossible to get anything to eat....There were no places to sit on the beach ever and the one day that we did get a few chairs on the beach it was impossible to get the waiter to ever look at you. All of the staff walked around with pissed off looks on there face and made me feel absolutely miserable. We ended up leaving the resort and going into town everyday to eat and drink just to get away from the resort so that our vacation wouldnt be completely ruined.... I have never been more blown away by bad service in my life. Never got one smile out of any of the staff....The food was horrible too. I just dont know how it could have been any worse.... The only good thing was the look of our room i guess even though the bed was hard as a rock.... The view was ok.. You pay extra for all inclusive but the staff make it impossible to recieve anything that is suppose to be included. It would take an hour just to get someone to pay you any attention. We even tipped really good hoping that it would help us get better service but that was not the case at all. Two morning that we ate breakfast at the resturant they were serving french toast and had no syrup..... I think just a simple smile from the staff would have made a world of difference.... I really hate that we wasted out vacation time here. I just hope that i can stop anyone else from making the same mistake... Cabo is beautiful but Villa Del Palmar is miserable....

Let me start with the good:
I purchased all inclusive. The food was amazing and the service overall was great. The hotel is right in front of the beach so you can just walk right to the beach and even get a water taxi and visit the lovers island. Very relaxing and kid friendly I thought.

BAD: When I got there, I ended up not staying at this hotel. They over booked and moved us to another hotel that was MUCH OLDER and NOT AS NICE.. but I think they did this just to fill up the older hotel. I was separated from my group of friends because of this and found it super inconvenient. ( they claimed that they will comp us by upgrading our bracelet) but only the color of the bracelet changes.. nothing else... so don't fall for that one. ! It's super annoying you have to sign for everything everytime you finish eating especially when you are already wearing the all inclusive bracelet. and just to receive a check, it takes FOREVER!!
