We stayed at Pueblo Bonito from 8/14 - 8/21. When we first arrived we asked to be on the top floor, we were told that there was nothing available, a short time later during the check in we were told there was something on the 5th fl. After we finished checking in we were given 3 "free" drink vouchers and told to validate them at the desk across the lobby. When we went to validate the vouchers we were pressured into a time share presentation, after several attempts to decline without being rude we accepted, but not before being promised $400.00 in food and drink vouchers for the hotel restaurants, a sunset cruise for the entire family, which we found out later that we had to pay for my 8 year old, a bottle of tequila and a bottle of Kahlua (this was all before we were even brought to our room).
We had gone shopping before we arrived and purchased some groceries because the rooms are supposed to have a somewhat functioning kitchen. The first room we were brought to wasn't very cool when we got there and we were told that the A/C has to be on for a while before it gets cold..OK.. same deal with the freezer and fridge. The vents in the room were filthy, the grout in the bathroom looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years. We spent one night in there, the A/C wasn't working very well in the bedroom, the freezer never got cold so everything that was stored there was ruined. We went to the front desk in the morning and complained, we were given another room with a much better view. The A/C and the fridge were working..but the vents and grout were in the condition. :( OK..onto the time share presentation.. we were driven to Pueblo Bonito Sunset, a sister resort nearby which made Blanco look like a redheaded stepchild. The place was gorgeous, offering fabulous views and amenities, unfortunately you can't swim in the ocean there, the undertow is too strong...we declined the offers to buy, collected our gifts and went back to our hotel.
The beach at Blanco was nice, but it is public and there are dozens of vendors selling just about anything and everything on it daily. The pool is also very nice, the temperature is perfect. My 8 year old daughter enjoyed it . We took the sunset cruise on our 4th day. It too was very nice. We sailed out to the arch and the rocks. The food was good, the staff was great. It was a nice evening. When we returned to the hotel I went to put something in the safe and after several attempts I couldn't open it. I asked my family if anyone had changed the combination and it was then I noticed a small card on top of the safe..it was a note saying that the maid had discovered unsecured valuables in our room and it is her duty to report it to security. I called the front desk and after explaining my situation to them I was transferred to the help desk, who sent two men from security to our room..at this point it was after 10 PM. They were unable to open the safe. They called someone else on the radio and a third man in civilian clothes came up, punched in a few numbers and the safe was opened. They all left, we checked to make sure no thing was missing. All of our valuables were there but $300.00 in cash was missing. There was $600.00 in cash when we left. I didn't report it right away thinking that maybe we spent it, I checked everyone's pants pockets, receipts..etc..the money was gone. We just couldn't understand why nothing else was missing and why only $300.00, not all of the cash was taken. Then Lo and behold there on the inside of the safe door is the hotels rules regarding the safekeeping of your valuables stating that the hotel is responsible for and will only refund up to $300.00! The next day I contacted the front desk and told them what had happened, I was told I had to fill out a report. I met with 2 men from security, filled out the so called report and was told that an investigation would be conducted and I would be hearing from them most likely the next day. I never heard from them again. I saw one of the men on the beach a few times and I was avoided. When we checked out the hotel did honor the $400.00 food and drink vouchers. Our bill was correct, but there where a lot of people complaining of charges that were made to their room that they were not responsible for. I travel at least 2 to 3 times a year and have NEVER had anyone change the combination to my safe. The nicest thing about this hotel is the view...and Cabo is gorgeous..I will visit again.. I will NOT be returning to Pueblo Bonito!
