“Snorkel tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

We went on the mid day snorkel tour as we wanted to go to Santa Maria and maybe see some whales. It was a good trip, for onle $40 they keep a cold drink in your hand, and the eco cat is a little less crazy then the big boat, so you can relax.Food was pretty low quality.

“Lots of fun but not the best food or snorkeling...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

We definitely had a fun time and met some nice people. This catamaran boasts all you can eat and drink. The food was not the best. I would probably just ship the meal next time and grab dinner somewhere afterwards. The drinks were definitely flowing and actually quite good. We went to the Santa Maria beach area for snorkeling. There were so many other boats with people that it was really too crowded and we didn't see many fish. The party organizer (forgot his name) was a blast and made up for the poor food and less than ideal snorkeling. It is definitely a good and inexpensive way to get out on the water, though.

“Another good trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

We've ridden Ecocat twice--once in 2011 on the sunset cruise and this year on the snorkeling cruise. We like Ecocat because while it's fun, it's not over-the-top booze cruise. Based on our 2011 experience, we went back this year. On the snorkeling cruise there was a variety of people, from families to young people, and everyone had a good time. We did do the VIP and were glad to have the drinks and food. We had a choice of life vest or "noodle" while snorkeling, which was great for the people in our party. We saw lots of fish even though sometimes the water wasn't that clear. There were other boats around, but we never felt crowded. On the way back they found whales and we got a great view, but the boat didn't get too close, which was a good thing. A crew member led us in dancing on the way back (for those who were interested)! All-in-all a very good time!

“Nice Sunset Cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

Took our daughter and boyfriend out for this sunset cruise on December 18th. The scenery on the simple route out to Land's End and into the Pacific for the sunset is top notch. The crew was friendly and enthusiastic. The music and other happy passengers made the cruise fun. The catamaran has seen better days though, it was a bit rough on the edges from lots of charter wear and tear day in and day out. For example one of our chairs was broken to the point that it couldn't be used when sat on, but it was left on deck. The photographer had her work cut out for her and at times took away from the experience by making us pose when we were enjoying the sights, but it was nice to have the photos at the end of the night of our group. She sold us a CD with 9 photos on it and a print for $40. The food wasn't very good but I didn't expect much. My fresh fish skewers were the best of all our choices (others had steak or chicken). Drinks were readily available and no one got out of control like we saw on the charter next to our dock when we got back. Recognize that they ask you to come 1/2 hour early so they can sell you drinks in the bar before the cruise and give you free dessert in the bar afterwards while waiting for photos trying to get more business. But, even with all the issues noted, we really enjoyed our time on the sunset cruise and would recommend it for the $47 per person we paid for dinner, drinks and the cruise.

“#1 for Whale Watching”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

If you're thinking of booking a whale watching tour there are many reasons why this is the company to choose, the first and foremost being that the captain is very experienced and respectful of the whales. He is able to follow the whales but - unlike some of the smaller glass bottom taxi boats - does not crowd them or endanger passengers by getting too close. The boat is very large and there is space to move around to get a better view during the trip. Also, we were given complimentary breakfast and drinks during the tour.

I looked at MANY companies before booking with Ecocat. After our superb experience today and the extended time we were able to watch the whales (compared to nearby groups) my husband and I believe this was the best deal and crew asea.

There is a professional photographer on the boat (contracted thru a different agency) who takes candid and pose shots of guests and the whales. If you don't want to miss the adventure by trying to photograph it, a full disc of photos is $40 at the end. However, they also sell two photos for $27 but these are PRINTS ONLY and not the electronic file. We purchased the CD - and below are some of the images.
