My husband, 3 year old son, and myself just returned from a week at Pueblo Bonito Rose resort. This is a large resort on one of the few swimmable beaches (El Medano) around Cabo. It was relatively convenient to walking into downtown Cabo; I say relatively because the sidewalks are not very conducive to strollers. There are occasionally gaping holes in the sidewalks (apparently not enough lawyers in Mexico), barbed wire fence bordering narrow sidewalks in some places (don't stumble into them). A cab ride to go the approx 1.25 miles into town center will cost you $6 plus tip each way -- not the kind of Mexico prices I"m used to.We also found it unbearably hot to be out walking between 10AM-5pm. (should say we live in San Francisco Bay area where we don't get very many hot days so we're just not used to 95 degree heat).
Having said all that though -- we preferred being walkable distance into town, as opposed to isolated out on the Corridor. The resort has a very large wonderful pool. If you're worried about being annoyed by kids, the smaller ones (8 and under) mostly congregate at one end of the pool where there are 2 shallow areas. For those kids, it's great because there are many of them and they can share their pool toys, etc. I especially enjoyed the great service provided by the pool staff who would bring you lunch, margaritas, smoothies, etc. That's the life. Hotel service was very good. One day the ATM machine across the street confiscated my ATM card (and did not give me any money either); the front desk was very helpful in assisting me in retrieving it. The timeshare push was a bit annoying but we made it clear we weren't interested and they left us alone after that. Room was cleaned up every day, bathrooms cleaned, etc. I also thought the showers were not very reliable in terms of temperature. For those traveling with small children, our bathroom only had large walkin shower -- no tub. Not sure if that' s the case for the whole hotel. Also, consider getting your room on lower floor -- we were on 6 th floor in middle of hotel with the elevators only at either end of the building. So going back up to your room to get something you forgot or needed at the pool took a while.
I think singles might be happier next door at Pueblo Bonito Blanco as Rose did seem to attract more families. Food at restaurant was very good -- we ate dinner there once, breakfast once, pool lunches numerous times. We also bought items at the hotel deli due to convenience -- most items were ok, but once I realized the box of Ritz Crackers I just bought was $7 US -- yikes. Overall would recommend this resort (although maybe not Cabo in general due to heat and high prices), especially for families w/young kids.

Four of us (45-50 years old) went to the Pueblo Bonito Rose’ for a week which we “rented” from a friend in RCI timeshares. Arriving at the airport—when you get your baggage, you will enter into a room with desks of people asking if you need a ride to town which is 30 miles away. Most everyone does, but the desks all represent different resort timeshares. I suggest you turn left out of the door and head to the “Taxi & Shuttle” sign. We went with the cheaper shuttle bus ($13 each). It took an hour from the airport to the Rose’ because we stopped for a “Mexican minute” at a small store and bought beer to drink on the bus, and the shuttle bus stopped at a few other resorts before dropping us off at the Rose’. We enjoyed talking to the other tourists and getting tips from those that had been to Cabo before. Even on the shuttle bus, the driver’s “helper” made his way down the aisle wanting to know if we were interested in timeshares. Check In—The four of us were checked in within 15 minutes of arriving. The front desk directed us over to a “Welcome” desk behind us which was a timeshare pitch for Pueblo Bonito resorts. I suggest you skip it and head to your room. Room—both of us had 2 Junior Suites. Nice large room, with a small hallway kitchen, 2 double beds (wish they were queen size), and a balcony that gave us a pool view with a small glimpse of the sea. Staff—very friendly and helpful. They made all our arrangements for our snorkel tour and boat trip. Some of the best service I have ever had at a resort. Location—we thought it was a great location. A short walk into town, yet not too close to the loud drunks at 2am. Town—we all enjoyed the town with the beautiful new shopping center by the marina, the excellent restaurants, the street markets, and seeing all the fishing boats and yachts. We saw a 590 lb. marlin come in from a fishing boat. Beware that the “Tourist Info” centers around the town are run by resorts so they can pitch timeshares. In general, the people of Cabo were very nice, helpful, and friendly. Restaurants-- We ate out at different restaurants twice a day. None of us became sick. Most of the good restaurants use purified ice cubes and water. If you are unsure, get bottled water and hold the ice. Prices are comparable to a major city in the USA. A dinner for 2 for us ran $60-$80. Fresh seafood is everywhere-- sea bass, lobster, shrimp, marlin, tuna, and mahi-mahi. Money—VISA, Mater Card, or US dollars is what the four of us used, even when taking the city bus and buying from street vendors. I suggest taking small denominations ($1 & $10) to use for small purchases and tips. Departure—review your bill the day before you leave to settle any discrepancies, then check out is fast and easy. Reserve a seat at the concierge desk for the shuttle bus to the airport the day before you leave. The shuttle cost us $13 each.

My wife and I stayed at Pueblo Bonito Rose for the second leg of our honeymoon from October 16 - October 19, 2005 (spent the first five days at Dreams in the corridor). We chose the Rose in an effort to be closer to downtown Cabo San Lucas and additional restaurants outside of the resort.

Service - We had absolutely zero problems with any of the service we needed while at the Rose. The front desk was very helpful with any questions (including the location of City Club, more on that later). The front desk does route you through a "welcome package" farce, see timeshare presentation, at the beginning of your stay. I will say that the bell boys were outstanding. They speak excellent english and struggle with you through your attempts at using Spanish. They are always smiling and willing to tote bags to rooms and/or storage.

Rooms - We elected the "European plan" as it is apparently called, which meant that we got a room, everything else we had to pay for. Bottles of Fiji, Evian, and Deer Park water were available in the room for about $6 USD. Thus, the trip to City Club, right around the corner where we got bread, cheese, pretzels, Gatorade, a case of water, a case of beer and two bottles of wine for about $50 USD. They will sell you a one day tourist membership for $1 USD. The room we had was two doubles, which in light of our honeymoon they converted to one, massive, king. They also gave us a free bottle of white wine the first night we got there. Like I said, I think the service, while somewhat mistimed (bed not converted until the final night), was still very good.

Food - We did not eat at the Rose so I cannot comment on that. We did eat at Mi Casa, Peacocks, and the Taco stand next to Squid Roe. I would recommend all of these places and in particular Peacocks where the service, food, and atmosphere were the best we experienced throughout the entire trip (a little pricey, but we were on our honeymoon).

Timeshares - Pueblo Bonito Rose and its sister/brother hotels are timeshare centers and they are agressive. We received daily phone calls, having skipped the WELCOME PARTY telling us we had five minutes to get down to the breakfast/timescare. We passed, but many of the people who were there were timeshare owners or taking the presentations.

My one complaint about the Rose, really is not the Rose's fault at all, but the entire time that we were there various cruise liners would come into the marina and park directly in front of the Rose, Blanco and other hotels blocking the entire view of the sky, ocean, and point. It was ridiculous, if I wanted to see the ships there are about ten bars in Baltimore, Maryland where I could sit and watch them get worked on....it really is a spectacle and something the port authority (if there is one) should work on. Once again, not in the Rose's control.

Lastly, if staying at the Rose and interested in having a couple of beers on the beach, I would recommend Tabasco's which is to the left as you walk out the beach. Much chiller and not as many harassing vendors down that way...of course, if you like watching people doing body shots off each other's thongs then the Office and Biddy Milligans are your place during the day. If you are going to go to the Office at night opt for a later dinner after all of the happy hour crowd has gone home/been kicked out.

Overall, very pleased with the Rose.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Rose Oct 8th - 15th 2005. Nosotros encantan Pueblo Bonito Rose. We wanted a beach vacation close to nightlife, and we wanted to see what was up with Sammy Hagar's Birthday Shows. We got just that and more. The service at the Rose was perfection. The location was great (we were able to stumble back on a couple of occasions). The beach and pool area though crowded were pristine. Our room was much better than anticipated. My only complaints are that the beds are too soft and the shower will tell you what tempurature the water will be. However, everything else the Rose has to offer totally eclipse these miner points. To anyone wanting to travel to Cabo San Lucas and be able to walk to the Bars at night, relax and swim at the best beach in Cabo, stay in a great room with a large fridge para muchas cervesas I do recomend the Rose. Next year we hope to return. Getting into to see Sammy Hagar @ Cabo Wabo was not quit as pleasent as the Rose. We waited in line one night starting at 5:15 am for over 5 hours and we were one of the very last people to recieve wristbands (tix). We were unable to get in to any other of Sammy's shows since we felt it was more important to us to relax on our vacation rather than work for tix. I hope next year he does an internet pre-sale of some sort.

First things first (and what many don't know about a LOT of Cabo), this "hotel" is really a timeshare facility and many of the guests are owners or friends of owners or renters or, like us, just using it like a regular hotel. It certainly FEELS just like a regular hotel (and this is true of many facilities in Cabo San Lucas). Now, that said, this isn't a criticism as such because if you didn't know who to talk to about this you simply wouldn't know.

And before I get into the hotel itself, an additional word or two on the timeshare process. Yes, they are somewhat aggressive but it's not bad. Where it is the WORST is immediately outside the last security (x-ray) check-in point just before you get to the outside world where the shuttles and/or buses are to be found. There is a bank of desks where someone will try to immediately escort you to them to sign you up. I'd take a pass if I were you, but it's not that big a deal to accept an offer really. We decided to do just that (and later found that the offers varied depending on the desk you were at as well as who you were). Anyway, they will try to get you to go to a presentation at the relatively new Pueblo Bonito Pacifica (on the Pacific side and a bit out of the town itself)... and you'll be lured for a 75 minute presentation (that is relatively low-key) with a dinner cruise, free dinner and about $40 in cash. The presentation was fairly low-key UNLESS you misktakenly show interest, and then it is harder to say "no." We said "no" and were on our way back to PB Rose'." Incidentally, if you decline any offers at the airport, you'll be offered essentially the same thing at the hotel itelf (by the "hostess")... and even if you mistakenly accept an offer at the airport they will buy you out at the hotel and have you go on THEIR timeshare sale thing.

My opinion on the timeshare is that it's not worth it unless you LOVE Cabo and/or do a lot of marlin fishing. The town lacks a lot of character of other Mexican towns... and is rather small (and filled with things "American"). The timeshares are, ultimately, more expensive (though they'll not sell them that way). By the way, nearly everyone accepted US dollars.

Anyway, the PB Rose' is a very nice facility. As others have noted, it is extremely clean and the rooms are nicely done. The smallest rooms are called "Jr Suite"s but they are ampl in their size. Nearly all rooms face the ocean to some extent. We stayed in room 3012 which was getting near the beach itself but was only at the top fo the palm trees in the main area so we couldn't see over them very well. Still, it was nice. Rooms all have verandas and very good housekeeping service. The pool does get crowded and there is always someone there to offer you a drink. Also, as others have noted, there can be noise between rooms (actually above and/or below) but that's more a function of the luck of you is next to you.

Their front desk and conceirge service was excellent. They'll convert money for you or schedule any number or outting/events if you like.

Drinks... gosh, lots availabe at the pool. I'd wait until 3 (3-5 or 6pm) when their happy-hour kicks in and drinks are two for the price of one (making them only $3.75 though they are large). For dinner, we preferred the "Cilantro" restaurant at the sister hotel next door (PB Blanco they now call it). Frankly, the PB Blanco (formerly PB Cabo San Lucas) looked like a nicer place... smaller and all rooms faced the ocean a bit better.

The hotel is in easy walking distance to the town center or just down the beach to "The Office" (restaurant). Everything seemed a bit expensive to me at the hotels, but if one wanted to you could buy food and bring it back to the hotel because there was a nice appointed kitchenette area in the rooms (with microwave, range, frig, silverware, plates, mugs, etc.).
