We just got back from a week at the Rose. Let me start by telling you that we are from the East Coast - MD to be exact, so we're used to going to the Carribean or to Cancun, Maya Riviera, etc. The reason I preface this is because we enjoyed Cabo and the Rose however we felt that it wasnt any better/worse than some of the Carribean islands and even Cancun. And for the 8 hours of travel it takes, your better off going to St. John or Belize.

The Rose is the perfect location to stay in Cabo. We walked into town a couple of times and it was safe and only a 10 minute walk (dont let the hotel guys tell you its 40 minutes - only if you walk with a cane will it take you that long). Location is the best thing about this hotel; we've talked to others that've stayed at the Riu and the Sheraton and while the resorts are also nice, it cost more than $20 each way into town - thats a lot of cash. While we're on the subject of cash, this is an expensive town. Dinners are about $45/person at your run of the mill restaurant, and higher at the fancier places like Ediths. The food is average at best - our best meal was at Mi Casa - beautiful atmosphere, good food, fair prices, about $90 total including 2 drinks.

Back to the Rose. This is a very nice, quant resort with about 250 rooms. The rooms are really nice. They have kitchenettes which really come in handy since the restaurants are so expensive. They also have a deli on site which was wonderful! They had everything from Dannon Yogurt to Cup'o Noodles to great deli and breakfast sandwiches. They also sold beer/wine and water. Bring a cooler, it really came in handy for us! We loved going there for breakfast or just buying milk and cereal and eating on the deck. The rooms are very clean and spacious. One thing to note - NO ROOMS HAVE QUEEN OR KING SIZED BEDS - THEY ALL HAVE 2 EXAGGERATED TWIN BEDS. Now, my husband and I are fit, thin people and we probably could've sqeezed into one of the beds (if this was our honeymoon we probably would've at least tried), but make no mistake - you will be sleeping in two separate beds.

The Rose has a nice pool with a great pool bar and food. We got the Ceviche and it was outstanding. The waiters are prompt and friendly. They have happy hour from 11-12 and 4-5pm, which came in handy. The hotel sits on the famous and swimmable beach - the Medano Beach. Great beach! Perfect view of the rocks and great access to the cool beach bars - like Mango Deck. You will get harrassed by the vendors on the beach.

Onto Cabo...We ate at the Trailor Park - $120 and not very good. Also at Baja Cantina - not good either. We had lunch at Panchos for about $45 without alcohol and it wasnt good and the flys didnt make us feel any better about it. Everyone talks about Gordo Lele's tacos. We're brave people, but after seeing the hole in the wall "taco stand" we just couldnt do it. I'm impressed with those of you who can! Really the best food we had was by the pool. Good tacos, guacamole, salad, etc.

If you're going to go to Cabo, and from the East Coast I dont recommend it, you should consider the Rose. Its a really nice resort, not over the top, very friendly, comfortable, relaxing. Beware of the twin beds, though!!

I was a little apprehensive upon arriving at the Pueblo Bonito Rose after reading some of the reviews here on Trip Advisor. However, our stay was excellent. Above average in every way. Everything from check in, housekeeping, facilities, dining, transportation, location, etc, was well done, well thought out for our convenience, clean, well maintained and incredibly lovely. WE spent a little time at the pool and I noticed they had many activities throughout the day posted on a big sign by the pool. Dance lessons, blackjack, volleyball, and so on. I wish I had seen the sign earlier in my stay (I saw it on my last morning) so I could have taken advantage of some of the fun events. We used a well groomed tennis court every single day and had the court entirely to ourselves. The gym, which we used after playing tennis, was exactly what you would expect of a top end resort. We ate very nice sushi by the beach, and even had the breakfast buffet one day. Breakfast buffets are usually wasted on me because I cannot eat enough to justify their high prices, and do not enjoy the excess and lack of healthy options. But this buffet was not overpriced. And they served a lovely dish of eggs poached in ranchero sauce. It was delicious. The location of the Rose was also excellent. About 10 minutes from town, so close enough for a nice walk, yet far enough to be away from the din. The Office Restaurant is about 5 minutes down the beach, and Niki Beach is next door. A couple times we took a water taxi to the marina for shopping and whatnot. Very fun and right at the beach of the resort. As for all the hype about the pressure of time-share sales, I was prepared to have to be rude to someone, but we were only approached once. We said no and that was the end of it. A couple things to note: the room has a kitchenette, make use of it and bring some snacks, water and whatnot into the room. The Rose does not have 24 hour room service. They do, however, have a little grocery store and deli on site near the lobby, and a rather nice one at that.

  • Liked — cleanliness, friendly staff, tennis court, location
  • Disliked — the web site says they have an infinity pool, but it is located at another property.

We spent 8 glorious days at "The Rose'." This place is older, but well-maintained. The grounds are beautiful! The staff is very friendly and helpful. They were there to please. Definitely a 5 star resort.

It is just about a 4 block walk to downtown Cabo. We usually walked down and then caught a taxi back. It's definitely close enough to walk both ways.

The beach is just right there. It is called Medano Beach. This is situated on a very popular beach where you can swim, parasail, rent jet skis, get a massage, etc. All at your feet. It is very clean and you can watch cruise ships pull in and out of the harbor.

They will ask you upon check-in to see their hostess about a free drink coupon, but it is just their way of getting their first round of time share sellers on you. Just say I don't drink or something else and keep going. They will periodically ask you during your stay if you have gone to or are going to the presentation and we just always said already gone and they would go on their merry way. They weren't as pushy here as they were at the last place we stayed.

Their concierge was very helpful in setting up the activities that we wanted. The housekeepers were out-of-this-world!! They folded our towels into animals and flowers and fans and stuff and they would scatter flower petals here and there. We started leaving them tips everyday after our first day because they did such a stupendous job. It was so clean and shiny.

There were many on-sight activities in the pool and out of the pool to keep anyone busy. The pools were very clean and well-kept. There were giant bird cages with beautiful birds in them. At night, someone would put these birds to sleep by covering their cages with this huge burgundy colored cloth cover. After dark, the lighting they had on their grounds was amazing. It made everything seem surreal and even the biggest humbug would be feeling romantic.

The waiters poolside and on the beach were quick to take your order, but a little slow to bring it. They made sure that you had plenty to drink. There were lounging chairs on the beach that were roped-off and that kept the beach vendors from coming in and bothering people.

The guys out front who took your luggage, called your taxis, and opened the doors as you went in and out were so friendly. They would remember where you were from and other little tidbits that you would tell them and then they would talk to you like they had known you for a long time. It was so great!!!!

I can't recommend this resort enough. We would so stay here again. We loved it. I hope this will help someone decide to stay here. You won't be disappointed.

My husband, two young children and I just returned from a week at this resort, and although we enjoyed the beautiful property, the pool, and the nice room, there were at least half a dozen very drunk, very loud people staying in the room directly above us for three nights in the middle of the week. We had several nights of almost no sleep, and we have a 6-year old and an 8-year old. The first night we called management several times: at midnight, 2AM, 3AM, and 4:30AM, because we were unfortunately subjected to the blaring, slurred yelling, furniture moving, vomiting, drunkeness of those above us, no matter how many pillows buried our heads. Each time we were told that the occupants of that room would be warned and if they continued to make noise we should call back and they would be kicked out. We kept calling management and 3 nights later they were still there. After the first night I visited both the front desk and the concierge and explained the situation to virtually every employee and requested that those guests be removed. On my several requests to speak to a manager I was told "The manager is in a meeting; the manager is at lunch; this is the manager's day off"---all at the same time! The "Supervisor" at the front desk was sullen and kept saying she "had to confirm this with the people staying in the room" (like they would remember? or admit it?), and whenever any other employee approached her about it they would have a lengthy discussion---all in Spanish---and each time they gave me some vague brush-off. In the end, they could have cared less, did nothing, and ruined the end of the trip for us.

The other matter is the timeshare vultures are totally out of control at the Pueblo Bonito resorts. They approached us as soon as we de-planed, at meals, called our room, approached us on the beach, nabbed us in the elevator. Fortunately we had previously been warned by an attorney who works with my husband to NOT GO TO A PRESENTATION, so we headed them off, but grew very tired of their phony greetings and super-aggressive attempts to try and get us into one of their EST-like sales sessions. It's a multi-billion dollar business for them and you will be ripped off. I felt like we deserved a metal for managing to get back on the plane without having been sucked into one of those awful presentations, no matter what "free" perks they promised.

So, if you're considering Cabo, consider yourself warned about Pueblo Bonito Rose.
