Reading through some of the negative reviews on this site, I have to say I honestly can't imagine how anyone could have a horrible time here. I found the service spot on from the check-in forward, right down to the way they handled a dispute on my final bill (my error, as it turned out).
The room I was originally assigned was not an ocean view, but I was promised I would get one as soon as someone who had one checked out. When I got to my room, however, I discovered it to be intensely quiet, with a view of the courtyard, a koi pond and a gazing pool. My porch was also secluded / shaded by tropical landscaping. As I was on vacation to rest and relax, I elected to stay where I was.
The staff was consistently friendly and helpful, some having been there for years and clearly enjoyed their jobs. The spa was amazing, the restaurants well above average, and the pool-side service snappy and cheerful (the drinks were a tad stronger than I expected - doubly so when I ordered a drink at 4pm and was brought TWO, since apparently there are dual happy hour arrangements) - and the pool menu was surprisingly good (the shrimp tacos and guacamole especially notable).
The deli / grocery store folks were beyond helpful, going above and beyond any special request I made. The maid service felt a little intrusive at first - knocking on my door pretty much constantly the first day to see if I needed fresh towels, extra pillows, coffee or bottled water - until I learnt the magic of the little "Privacy, Please" card that slips into the outside lock, wherein they never once knocked again my entire trip.
The place was spotless, with cleaning and maintenance work in evidence 24/7. Room service - no matter what time I called it in - was way faster than pretty much anyplace else I've been, ever.
As far as pricing, I never felt ripped off. Restaurant and spa costs were about on par with other resorts, and paying for coffee and bottled water has pretty much become de rigeur these days.
The one complaint I have about the Rose' is the INCESSANT PRESENCE OF TIMESHARE HAWKERS. Although I didn't feel constant pressure, it was enough to keep me wary of any hotel staff member who started up a conversation with me (yes, I'd have preferred to think they were just being friendly, but 8 times out of 10 their next question was if I'd gone yet to the presentation at the Sunset.).
One other comment: The Mi Casa restaurant in town was recommended to me, and so I went - to my regret. My own fault, probably, as I did not observe my own rules about not eating food meant to be hot or cold that arrives at room temperature.
The barely-above lukewarm black bean soup was unappetizing but probably not lethal ... but one bite of tepid Smoked Marlin Tostada that tasted like day-old cat food was all it took to keep me in my room, genuinely ill, for the next 24 hours. Although I'd of course sent the dish away immediately after gagging down the first bite, the waiters showed no concern whatsoever that they had served me something that was clearly toxic, and made no offer to remove the charges from my bill. Let's just say I won't be recommending the place to anyone myself.
That being said, my overall experience at the Rose - and in Cabo in general - was quite positive, and I plan to return again soon.
