4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

Used RCI Points: not disappointed. Yes, there is construction and yes, it is distracting. Solutions? First, ask for a room far away from it; staff will accommodate if possible (thanks, Raymundo). Second, take the shuttle to Playa Sol Mar or walk the 5 minutes to their pool area. No cost and no noise. Literally 3 blocks from the Marina and all it has to offer; but walk just a few blocks on and you find small shops, restaurants and more.

Back to Sol Mar: pool is nice, easy walk from the rooms. Good pool bar and Tejeban is a good place for dinner. La Roca, located on a different Sol Mar, is a golf cart shuttle away and a place you MUST dine at! Breakfast buffet is full of bright, fresh food and outstanding Mexican coffee...and fresh-squeezed orange, papaya and pineapple juices. For dinner, La Roca is a well-priced, 4 star experience. Wait staff has been well-trained on fine dining and the food? Fantastic! one of out best dinners EVER. really.

Staff of note: Erick, Cristina and Andres; friendly, ready-to-help. (special thanks to Cristina the concierge; she quickly solved a minor problem)

You will not be disappointed in Sol Mar.

Room Tip: Ask to be placed "away from the construction" and ask for an ocean view; we were here dur...

We used a Living Social deal to make this all-inclusive experience ridiculously inexpensive. Nothing to complain about. Food and drinks more than met expectations. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Location is ideal. If we didn't like San Jose so much better than Cabo San Lucas we would return to this resort.

Room Tip: Room 2204 is closest to the ocean, above the pool, and the best location at the resort.

The wife and I found the gem in Mexico, and happy we did. The staff was amazing from start to finish. Without a doubt it is a breath of fresh air to be around people who enjoy working and serving. Coming from the states far to often Resorts have a "what can I do for you now" attitude, and we all know that gets old.

The Staff at the all inclusive restaurant was very inviting, and seemed to never go home. No worries if you do not speak Spanish, they are very helpful in English as well as Spanish. They are even willing to help when you butcher the language they speak daily. Ernesto, Alejandro, and Thomas all did an amazing job, and even made a few special "not on the menu" items for the wife and I when we asked. Those three really did an amazing job.

The resort itself was clean, quiet, and safe. At no time did we go without, or feel we shouldn’t / Couldn’t leave our room. The staff was always cleaning, and very friendly. The room had a full kitchen including stove top. Our patio overlooked the resort and ocean, making for a very relaxing stay. The only neagitve would be the fly's, fly's everywhere, no a/c in restaurant. There was only 1 restaurant and it was not inside but it was good. You had to sign a bill every time, which was very annoying considering it was all inclusive.

We were walking distance (3 minutes) from the pier, which made for very good shopping. The locals were sometimes persistent, but never rude when it came to buying from them. overall a fun time shopping.

Word to the wise, don’t feel pressure to exchange money for Pesos... It was a very American tourist driven resort town. Dollars taken at all areas (and preferred).

GREAT TRIP AND THANKS AGAIN TO THE AMAZING STAFF!

Room Tip: Depending on time of year ask to overlook main pool area (two pools at resort), or be placed near re...

We wanted a sunny get away that was not too far from home (Oregon). We spent 5 night here and it exceeded our expectations. We got upgraded to a very large room with one of the best views. The food was excellent and had a large variety. The construction did not bother us and our room was not far from it. It was an easy walk to the Marina, but we only bothered to go there once. I got a massage at the spa and it was one of the best I've ever received. I would highly recommend!

I hate to be negative but here I go ...... I read a lot of reviews and went based on the good ones, but having stayed at other all - inclusive resort I did not like this one.... first the alcohol was like kerosene, cheapest stuff around , and they ran out of corona and mango margaritas the second day , the best bartender ever OSCAR did his best to accommodate us, and then there was the fly's , omg fly's everywhere , no a/c in restaurant and was so humid, there was only 1 restaurant and it was not inside but it was good , then you had to sign a bill every single time , which was very annoying , did not had to do that at other resorts , only 1 pool that we used, because they had the swim up bar , the other pool was far away , and no service, there was no entertainment except one night a Mexican fiesta which was just ok , the lobby was like a motel 6 lobby , very small ,...so now for the good ..... staff ...staff ...staff....they made the whole trip tolerable , ,,,,Leonar , Ernesto ,victor and of course the best waiter alejuandro were all awesome .....and Oscar at the bar was the best , I might be missing someone but they were all awesome , oh I forgot we got a upgraded room which was very big , but the couple we went with did not , which was disappointing , but if it were not for the staff and the couple we went with it would have been a terrible trip ....oh and the construction did not bother us at all , kind of fun to watch them work and our room was right next to it

Although there was a lot of construction and an ugly sight right out my front door the pros outweighed any cons on this trip. The food was wonderful and our usual waiter Alejandro was funny and enjoyable as well as providing us with excellent service. We enjoyed the food and the view during all our meals! We also were sad to see we couldn't go right into the beach but for a very small fee took a water taxi to swimmable beaches. I would recommend taking a tour with Alejandro and Claudio at the marina. We got a great tour, and got dropped off at Lover's Beach and picked back up in 2 hours for $10.00 each. It was a deal. I recommend Lover's Beach over the other nearby beaches. Everyone at the hotel was helpful and I really enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: Try not to get located by construction.

beautiful resort when finished in summer of 2014. At this time if you don't mind the sound of jackhammers while drinking your margaritas then its a lovely place to spend a vacation. At times I saw helmeted workers walking around the facility as well.
