“Wow.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Incredible 5 full days at Capella and it was worth every cent.

Service
The staff at Capella are absolutely the best I've experienced at any resort / hotel / really any service-focused business. It's better than Disney, better than Ritz Carlton. Simply the best anywhere.

It's as if their lives depend on you having an amazing time. Every request was responded to with "Why not!?" or "Certainly, sir, right away." It was just incredible from end to end.

Maid service, why yes! How about twice a day!! Turndown does it all, closes the blinds, does a little nice towel by the bedside so you can have super clean feet in the sheets. Towels *always* fully stocked. Plenty of refreshments in the fridge every day. It's 100% detail focused. Perfection.

Staff at the restaurants are SUPER incredible. They'd bring our two year old any food we wanted. They would prepare a highchair when they saw us coming, knew our names, it was just wow. On our last day they even gave him a toy mexican guitar and yo-yo. They know how to make you feel truly special.

The pool staff are also incredible. Any drink, any quantity, endlessly available to your every need. They also come around with popsicles every day and at the adult pool: shots on the house of different mixed and frozen drinks.

Highly recommend the car service as well. Lower end taxis and shuttles are barely less expensive and way more shady. It was fast, very professional, clean and being whisked away in an Escalade immediately after walking outside is an incredible feeling. They had a carseat for our little guy too. No lugging it through the airport.

Rooms
We were there during some light, but not unnoticeable, construction so our room was relocated to the residents side of the resort (the 800 building). For us this was great for a ton of reasons, but mostly because we brought our 2 1/2 year old boy. Being very close to the kids pool was ideal. Our room was incredible, the infinity pool off of the balcony, the view, the kitchen, the claw tub in the GIANT bathroom!, every bit of it was amazing. The appointments were so detailed in each room. The art was incredible. The solidly built and VERY quiet rooms were awesome. Marble floors! Pocket glass doors on the balconies allow for a huge open view to the ocean and the resort below.

Amenities
We took advantage of each pool, especially the kids pool. Speaking of kids, we found there were not a whole lot of reviews concerning bringing your kids to Capella.

It's totally doable.

Even with a toddler / high maintenance kid, doable. One note: we confirmed that our 2 1/2 year old could go to the kids club and that was actually not the case. Kids should be 4+ yrs to do the kids club and can potentially be younger if they're potty trained. We had neither of those in our favor but they STILL agreed to take our guy and just get us when he needed a diaper change. What amazing flexibility and service, over and over. The good news is they have private nanny service and it's a great price. Our little boy liked the food and the pools. There were a handful of other folks at the resort that also had kids. It seemed most of the families were around the residential side. The adult pool is the only place where kids cannot go, and its also great when you want to get away. The swim up bar and the service at that pool are very good.

Location
You drive through a giant mountain onto a private 5-star luxury hotel. Of course its amazing. The cliffs, the ocean, the perfectly colored sand, the waves... ugh its all incredible. The gates when you enter are so impressive. El Farron on the cliffside is also very impressive. They had a live Flamenco guitar player the night we were there. 100% authentic Mexican luxury. The beach is beautiful and you can walk down for probably miles.

One thing I also noticed about Capella was the attention to detail in the landscaping. It was, of course, perfectly maintained. They managed to present an incredible and beautiful display on every path, each turn and each step with a variety of cactus and desert trees. Absolutely stunning. The lighting for all of that was also top notch.

Food
Food was what you'd expect at a 5-star property. Very very good. Lunch highlights were any of the taco dishes and the ceviches. Breakfast buffet at Don Manuels is out of this world. Custom-made smoothies and an amply stocked omelet bar. The mountain of baked goods and build-your-own bloody mary/mimosa bar were nice touches as well. Dinner at both Don Manuels and El Farrons were excellent. Obviously El Farron feels more like going out to eat, but Don Manuels was a close second. The mushroom risotto with black truffel and seared scallops were highlights for me. They also had an excellent salt-crusted Halibut that was delicious. The guacamole (both the daily service and the appetizer version at the restaurants) were the best I've ever had. Perfect balance of savory and creamy. So good.

Drinks
Drinks were so good here. The prices were on par with everything else at the resort minus the wine. The wine selection was just pretty good, but the prices for those seemed a little high even for Capella. The by-the-glass selection was limited. Mixed drinks and non-alcoholic drinks were incredible. Strong, but not overdone. Tasty. The Capella Margarita was really really good.

Overview
If you can afford this trip, there is no reason to go anywhere else in the world.
I've been to great resorts and fine hotels in the US, Japan and Europe - this is the winner on each level of measurement.
I was genuinely *sad* when we got home.
Capella is special and has spoiled us. Do it!

Room Tip: Lower rooms are quiet (less ocean noise). Higher rooms have excellent views. Every room has it'...

Dear 4ubrey
Thank you for your fabulously detailed review of your recent visit to Capella Pedregal. We very much appreciate your sharing all your kind comments and insights with our Trip Advisor community.

Thank you as well for pointing out the special accommodations that we make for children here in the resort. I am so happy that we were able to accommodate your son at the Kids Club. As you pointed out, we do have three pools, one shallow pool for children, a larger “family pool” and finally our adult’s pool with the swim up bar. We think that this allows all of our guests to find a comfortable location and enjoy their pool time!

We are so happy that we were able to “spoil” you during your visit, and look forward to the opportunity when we can once again spoil you and your family here at Capella Pedregal!

My wife and i, along with our best friends, went here for their 2nd annual food and wine festival. What an amazing treat !!! A few things to note here, the room we enjoyed was a 3 bedroom apartment that you could easily live in. We cannot wait to go back to this wonderful resort. Along with 4 season maui, these 2 places exceed all others for the 2 of us. The rooms manager was a great man who upgraded us to a beautiful and roomy suite, and it was like paradise. We never wanted to leave. On top of that, the food and wine festival was wonderful. I wish they had more wine sponsors, and Jose Quervo showed up with very low quality tequila, but the 4 chefs made up for that in a huge way. Kent from Dallas, and Philip originally from france, were the highlights of the show. Their food was a dream. The audience were all foodies and wine lovers with discerning taste, and the chefs came to delight. Thanks for such an amazing time

Room Tip: smaller suites are close to the water, bigger suites are a longer walk. Choose what you like most.

I want to start by saying I am in Love with this hotel! I have been singing its praises since I left! #1- upgraded us from a standard size room to a 3 room suite #2 the service was amazing everyone was so friendly and the never say "NO" can we have breakfast by pool "yes" We dont see a sundae on the menu but can you make it "yes" such amazing staff Danielle the PA made my birthday amazing. You pull in the gate and upon arrival you get a fabulous welcome drink duh it was a marg. #3- I have to say my main problem with Cabo has been feeling stuck , at Palmilla i always felt stuck at Esperanza, stuck. But here you want to get into the local flavor of Cabo you can walk to so many restaurants, stores, and take the water taxi to local beaches for snorkeling or wave running. Hands down a great experience. I went with my husbands as a romantic getaway but saw families and everyone was enjoying themselves. The have seperate pools for family and adults. Also, it felt boutique-e I cant stop because there is so much but you will just have to go and see for yourself- enjoy!

Room Tip: if you have children stay on ground floor they have cute little pools on patio

Dear itsmycheese,
Thank you for your kind and enthusiastic review of your recent visit to Capella Pedregal. I was delighted to learn that you “loved” our hotel and its easy location and accessibility to the action of Cabo. We are fortunate to be close to the action, but have the amazing Pedregal Mountain and our own private tunnel that separates from the town so that our guests can enjoy plenty of peace and quiet.

We look forward to welcoming you back for another birthday celebration next year, if not even sooner!

This was our first trip to Cabo San Lucas. We decided on the trip after reading about the second "Food & Wine Experience" at Capella Pedregal. Six chefs, including Dean Fearing and Kent Rathbun from Dallas. We arrived on Wednesday after flying non-stop from DFW. The resort whisked us from the modern airport at San Jose del Cabo to the resort. Registration was in an open patio area overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Our suite was wonderful, with two balconies and a private plunge pool. Our four-night stay exceeded our expectations. We hope to return to Capella Pedregal.

Room Tip: It would be hard to go wrong with one of the suites. Guests can enjoy the plunge pool and the sun on...

The Capella Pedregal is simply spectacular. The property is perched on the seaside at the tip of the Baja peninsula, with gorgeous views of the Pacific and the crashing waves. The resort is completely private, with entrance via a tunnel through one of the rock massives.

The experience begins at the San Cabo airport. The Capella will send an SUV to pick up guests; they meet you at the exit and whisk you and your luggage to the car (make sure you just walk past the usual Mexican ploy of people selling time shares in the airport immediately after exiting customs). It is a 30 minute drive to the property, through very interesting desert countryside. On arrival, your personal assistant greets you with a margarita and escorts you to your room, where check-in is done quickly and efficiently. The assistant asks for what time you want daily maid service and evening turndown, makes restaurant reservations and inquires about food allergies.

The rooms are also spectacular- we had a Capella suite, very spacious with a huge bathroom. Outside there is a private terrace with chairs, and a small private pool. It is furnished with every amenity possible, including a welcome bottle of Casadores tequila. The beds are large and comfortable. On the first evening turndown service, the maid placed red rose petals in the shape of a heart on our bed and lit the room with 20+ tea candles (very romantic!).

The infinity pools overlook the beach and are beautiful in themselves. There is a sunken pool bar and the pool staff is very attentive and helpful. (Note: bring sunscreen, because the intensity of the Mexican sun is masked by the breeze from the ocean.) One of the pools is adults-only, which is nice for those guests without children.

There are three restaurants on site: Don Manuel's, El Farallon and The Beach Club (actually four restaurants if you count Crudos, next to the submerged pool bar) . I will review the first two separately on Trip Advisor, but we found Don Manuel's to be the most suited to our taste. Nice ambiance, great food and exceptional service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The waiters know you by name, which is a nice touch, and remember what you drink.

The Auriga spa is also spectacular and highly rated among spas of the world. Don't miss it.

We will return to this property many times in the future.

We just got back from a 6 day honeymoon stay at Capella and WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

The only thing better than the views from plunge and infinity pools is the service. They offer maid or turndown service 2-3 times a day, our personal assistant helped us will any/all requests related to activities/transportation/resturant reservations/etc (each of their recommendations were spot on), and the entire wait staff on the property is more than accomodating.

Be sure to bring your pocketbook as this place is definitely pricey, but for a special occasion like a honeymoon or anniversary it's well worth the cost. We hope to be back soon!

While in Cabo I would recommend eating at Docs wine bar (Italian), La Hacienda Cocina (Mexican) & El Fallaron (the seafood restaurant at the resort).

Room Tip: We had a room on the top floor of building 3 with a private pluge pool. It seems the top floor offe...

I'd rather not go into what most people have probably already said.. This trip was probably one of the best vacations Ive ever been on. The staff here is top notch and knows exactly how to treat customers that are spending at this level and expecting a certain level of service.

Id personally like to thank some key players that really added a nice touch to our trip. The manager of El Farallon who took some time out during a busy night to come and speak with us about some things we really enjoyed. Even went as far as to explaining how a particular sauce was made. Little things like this are what makes for great memories..

The staff at Don Manuels for going the extra mile to ensuring the private dining experience we setup in their wine cellar was 5 stars. It was a dinner my wife will never forget.

Chef Pilar deserves a bit of recognition as well. By the end of our classes we felt as if we were spending time with family. She was a pleasure to cook with and made us feel at home.

The concierge staff was also amazing. Incredibly helpful, attentative and very professional. I dont think they missed a beat the entire trip. Much like the pool staff who I cant say enough good things about. Which seems to be a rarity these days at most resorts.

And lastly, the maid service which not only did they clean our room spotless but made a big effort to reorganize everything I managed to make a mess of each day. My wife was in heaven.

Thank you for a very memorable trip Capella, we plan to come back again.

Room Tip: Top floor, room 241 was incredible...
