“Cibola sports bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

As owners at montecristo we have certainly enjoyed the addition of the cibola sports bar. The staff are extremely friendly and the service they provide is second to none. The food is very good and their excellent chef will also prepare anything for you outside of the regular menu. She will prepare this for you at the bar or in your individual villa. We have enjoyed our experience with them 12 times in the last 4 weeks! Enjoy. Dave and Cindy

We heard how wonderful the Montecristo estates would be---never
to expect it to surpass our expectations. Gated community that was
actually welcoming and perched on the ridge of the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas.
The views of the ocean and beach frontage was spectacular. Curb presentation had a
Lovely fountain inside the open air foyer, and the interior-- all that you could
anticipate with a two floor, two bedroom, two plus half bathrooms and all
condo requirements.
The PLUS-PLUS-PLUS was having our own heated plunge pool.
Daily cleaning service was excellent.
Initial check-in was efficient and the food and beverages in the lobby
restaurant and pool side were very good.
Expensive--Yes! Worth it--Yes!

With all the security gates and cameras around the resort, we felt pretty confident of the security of Montecristo. Wrong. Our villa was robbed on the first night of a week-long stay. The thieves took laptops, iPhones, iPads, purses, wallets, jewelry, etc. and worst of all, one of our USA passports. The villa did have a mini safe that we should have probably used, but with the display of security every where, we thought it was not necessary.

The staff assigned us 1 agent to help us, but she was not very much help at all. They had us jump through a bunch of hoops like have our key cards scanned to see if they were used in the robbery, go to the local tourist office and file a theft report, etc. This took up a lot of time and ended up not helping us at all in the long run. We asked the resort to review their security camera tapes and look for video evidence, but were told they could not look at the footage without the clearance from the highest level of management, which I don't know why they were not able to get.

We were unable to resolve anything during the 1 week we were there and were given contact information to keep the investigation going from the USA. Once we got back, we go the run-around time and time again.

That being said, as another reviewer pointed out, the villas are all tucked into a cliff side. You must call and wait for a shuttle VAN to the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach resort, where you have to take a shuttle CART to the pools, beach, etc. Include 45 minutes to an hour of travel time every time you want to go these places.

Room Tip: Try to get a villa with the pool with ocean views, you can sit there for days.

We stayed in Villa 35, which perhaps has the best view of all of the villas. We had clear views of the ocean all around. Our villa was incredibly spacious and always clean. The only problems we had were with the management of the property itself. They only had two shuttles for over five properties, and so we were often waiting thirty minutes just to go to dinner on their own property. Our dining experiences were also lessons in patience. The bar at the Montecristo took nearly an hour and a half to get us our dinner, which was easy "bar food." We also ate at Frida's and at Siempre. The service at Frida's was fine, but the food was not that great. The service at Siempre was horrible. I will say that I am not impatient and am content to sit and talk with my family, but the service was slow (painfully so) for even me, and that's saying something.

The spa was fabulous and I got the best massage of my life there!

Room Tip: Villa 35!!!

Pueblo Benito Montecristo.... Hmm where to start. Of course the view is to die for and the cleanliness of the villas are impressive, however don't let this divert from the poor service of managers and security issues! On our first day there me a few of the other people I was with went for a drink at the sports bar, there was one person left at the villa so we didn't think it necessary to lock everything up.... Wrong! Came back and realized my iPhone had been stolen along with $180 out of my sisters wallet! So the whole trip was spent dealing with the managers and security personal only to be left with a 'this is an unfortunate event' no reimbursement was given not to mention the time lost dealing with these people on Christmas eve, day, and boxing day! Not how we wanted to spend out Christmas time as a family!

As we continues to pester and prod the security department for results we found that our main door did not even lock and it was beyond easy to get into the villa without a key. As well, the location of the villa, on top of the hill that only could be accessed by shuttle .... Staff were the only ones who had been up there in that time frame.

I would like to know when it became alright for a company to ignore the losses of their customers and merely blame the 'security' detail... I don't care about their security I want results and my losses reimbursed!

Dear Sama8913,

Thank you for taking the time of writing your review, we apologize for any inconvenience you had during your stay. However, as a policy of Pueblo Bonito Resorts, Montecristo takes no responsibility for any objects that were not stored in the safe, moreover all staff members are checked at their arrival to work, and pass through a metal detector before leaving work.

We took care of the situation at the moment and made an adjustment for almost $4,900 pesos, for the value of your lost items. We are sorry this wasn't what you were expecting but we will continue working hard on our security measures.

Sincerely,

Engelberto Tirado, GM

As owners of this resort, this was our first time staying here. Our concierge (Karen Ramirez) was kind enough to accommodate our request for a Phase 2 unit (Villa # 142) so that we could enjoy the same amenity type and unit we originally purchased 4 years ago.
Villa # 142 is located in Phase 2, which is lower down the hill, and less congested than the Phase 1 units. The Phase 2 units also provide Wi-Fi service which was a bonus and enabled us to make phone calls (wi-fi) without incurring the international rate.
These villas accommodate 6 – 8 people in the 3BR, 3.5BA units. My wife and I felt like we did not do these justice, and wish we had friends & family to share the experience. We are always amazed at the craftsmanship and extra detail put into the construction in Mexico and these units are no exception with marble countertops, stone floors in the bathrooms, kitchen, hallways, vaulted ceilings, etc. As for the amenities and comfort, these units have everything you would ever want:
• plunge pool on the lower level patio (about 20’ wide by 10’ long and 4’ deep)
• Jacuzzi (4 person) on the upper level patio
• Weber grill on the upper patio
• Lounge chairs and tables on both patios
• Outdoor towels for lounging
• Very comfortable beds
There are 2 types of transportation to get you around the resort (shuttle & golf cart). At first, the shuttle service was slow to arrive (55 minutes & several phone calls) during our original check-in date. However, the following days they improved with the golf carts being the quickest and most efficient way to get around (dial 0 on your phone).
The free shuttle from the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach to the sister resort in Pueblo Bonito Rose was very efficient but you must make a reservation with the concierge or at the deli outside of the pickup point at Sunset Beach.
We did not rent a car on this trip as the rental car prices were a determining factor ($10/day base rate, $40 - $50/day with mandatory insurance & taxes in Mexico “ouch”). The transportation around the resort (shuttles & golf carts) are free (tips welcomed).
Getting around to anyplace outside of the Pueblo Bonito resorts will require a taxi ($24 - $32 US roundtrip) so if you do decide to rent a car during your stay there is a carport for each villa where you can park. If you have a large group and can share this expense then the rental car may be a cost effective solution for you. However, if you are looking to save some $$ then it would be beneficial to stock up on groceries to your villa the 1st day and return the car to eliminate the daily rental expense and reduce expenses.
There is some construction of new Villas further up the hill but this was not disturbing to us as the units are self-contained with no adjoining walls and immaculate construction.

Some of the hi-lights of the stay:
• Karen Ramirez – very nice concierge @ Montecristo who ensured our stay was 1st class by checking in with us every day and arranging fun things to do (i.e. Tropicat Cruise, Sunset dinner @ Cibola Restaurant) and even surprised us with a special anniversary desert.
• The Bistro Restaurant @ Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach – excellent food & service, very reasonably priced with excellent views from the balcony
• Cibola Sports Bar @ MonteCristo Estates – beautiful Sunsets, sea bass was excellent
• MonteCristo Villas – the amenities and views from these units are FANTASTIC, we look forward to our return

Overall, our stay at the MonteCristo Estates was 1st class all the way and we look forward to sharing this experience again with friends and family in the future. Hopefully, we will be as fortunate to have Karen Ramirez as our concierge as she truly made us feel WELCOME and SPECIAL during our stay.

Room Tip: Units in Phase 2 have Wi-Fi service and are newer unit types. There is ongoing constuction but the...

We stayed at Montecristo with three other couples and can't wait to go back. The villa was perfect with an amazing view! We could wake up every morning and enjoy our own personal infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. It was outstanding. The staff was great. The maids kept the villa very clean. The concierge took care of any issues we had. We had no worries the entire week we were there and simply enjoyed a nice relaxing vacation!
