“Montecristo is beautiful -- but disappointing!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

We stayed in Montecristo Villa #60 and it was beautiful! We loved the amazing view, both decks and of course, the infinity pool! Our beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. We were a group of 6 and all self-proclaimed gourmet chefs and we found the kitchen to be very convenient and easy to work in. We learned how the oven worked after taking 3 hours to cook a Tequila cake – which, by the way, turned out to be unbelievably delicious! We were on a 2-week vacation in Cabo, so we loved having the convenience of the washer and dryer. The refrigerator could have been a little bigger and the minor kitchen faucet problems were fixed quickly.

There were a few things that we didn’t like about our Montecristo Villa:

1. We were a group of 6 adults and we could not gather comfortably – all together – in one place except at the dinner table! The living room was rather small and with only 1 couch and 3 chairs, seating was rather inadequate, which we mentioned to the Concierge. The upper deck had only 4 chairs at the table and 2 lounge chairs. On the lower deck, we had 3 lounge chairs and 2 straight back chairs. Again, we were unable to gather comfortably.

2. Towels on the lounge chairs seemed to be in short supply and were not changed daily.

3. Bath towels should have been replaced with a minimum of 2 towels to each bathroom daily. (Extra towels were available in the linen closet.)

4. Wash cloths were also in short supply, as were the small containers of shampoo and lotion.

5. We were warned before we arrived that there might not be an Internet router available for us upon check–in. Well, of course, none was available! However, we were prepared and brought our own so we could stay in communication with our families and business matters. Even though we had a 9:00 AM “appointment” with the IT guys to assist in the router set-up, we had to call a few times to get the IT guys to show up. They knew exactly how to complete the set-up and we were off and running. I’d definitely suggest this idea, but I can’t understand why Montecristo doesn’t have a router in every Villa!!

There were a few things that we didn’t like about Montecristo, in general:

1. It was windy every single day! So windy (and rather cool) that we couldn’t sit out on the decks! We all laughed as the wind would howl thru the closed and locked sliding glass doors! No one told us about this – if they had, we wouldn’t have booked at Montecristo!

2. Transportation really sucks! Getting to the pools at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica was complicated: First, you had to call from the Villa for a shuttle to pick you up and take you to Pueblo Bonito Sunset. Then, you had to wait at PB Sunset for the shuttle to pick you up and drive you to PB Pacifica. Several times, we just walked all the way from our Villa to PB Pacifica, but it was downhill, so not too bad! A couple of times, we tipped the driver who picked us up at PB Pacifica to drive us non-stop back to the Villa. (I hope they didn’t get in trouble!)

3. To get to Pueblo Bonito Rose is even more complicated! First, you must call a day in advance the Concierge for a timed “reservation” on the shuttle from PB Sunset to PB Rose. (Several shuttles were already fully booked when we called!) Then you gotta call from the Villa for a shuttle to take you down to PB Sunset, which must be perfectly timed to catch the PB Rose shuttle, which usually means you arrive 20 minutes early and sit at PB Sunset and wait, and wait, and wait. Not my idea of the best way to spend my vacation time!

4. The cost of Taxi service in Cabo is outrageous! It’s $15 ONE WAY for the taxi from Montecristo to downtown Cabo, Costco, Sam’s Club & Walmart. $30 roundtrip is ridiculous! Too expensive to go downtown for shopping or dinner. And don’t even think about getting off the shuttle to PB Rose – they will NOT stop to let you off in the downtown area! It’s well known that the taxi union has a stranglehold on the hotels, but if this doesn’t improve, we will probably stop coming to Cabo.

We enjoyed two restaurants and would recommend them: The Bistro at PB Sunset and Siempre at PB Pacifica, where we ate twice! (Strange thing though, reservations are on-the-hour only!)

Overall, we were disappointed with the time we spent at Montecristo and will not return. We will, however, continue to vacation at Playa Grande in Cabo San Lucas, which has spectacular views, beautiful pools and we can walk downtown for shopping and dinner without the taxis ripping us off!

We stayed there from April 16 to April 23 2012.

We got Villa 119, one of the Phase II villas, in the lower area. The good part is that you’re near the Sunset Beach Resort, but the view is not as impressive as the villas that are higher up. We loved it anyways, seeing the whales in the ocean from our infinity pool was fantastic!
We were very impressed with the villa; as most other reviewers have already mentioned, everything is top notch. Needless to say my husband was very happy to have that Weber BBQ for his grilling! The villa is very spacious, which gave a lot of privacy to everyone in the party. We were a little concerned at first about travelling with little kids (who weren’t ours) but it was fine: we had the master bedroom upstairs and the kids and their parents had the bedrooms downstairs: we never heard the babies cry at night, it was a great vacation for everyone. They say the villa sleeps 8 to 10 people. For better privacy I would say it sleeps 6 adults maximum plus kids, but I wouldn’t stay there with 10 adults. We were 4 adults and 2 kids and that was perfect.
We had several meals at the villa, stocked up on groceries at the local Walmart and enjoyed the fabulous kitchen. We ordered room service a couple times: I have to say, that was a bit of a disappointment, I guess the kitchens are far which makes it hard to bring the food quickly, but I didn’t really enjoy the room service food as it was cold. But let’s not focus on that, I forgot about it a few seconds later. Celestino our concierge came everyday, he was very helpful and made some dinner reservations for us on several occasions.
There is a computer with internet in the villa, but the wifi isn’t included and the weekly fee is pretty steep.
Overall we absolutely loved the Monte Cristo and will definitely stay there again when we go back to Cabo.

Room Tip: Phase 1 villas have better views, phase 2 villas are larger, have more pirvacy and are closer to the...

Wonderful villas (spacious, clean), excellent service from the staff (personal concierge, housekeeping, chef), great views from all locations, convenient gym, clubhouse, spa, sports bar & restaurant in the private, gated community as well as easy access to the larger resort (Sunset Beach) restaurants, pools, tennis courts, etc. The personal concierge and front desk staff were always available to answer questions, make reservations, search out activities and confirm availability, etc. They always made us feel that they wanted to be sure we were having fun and had everything we needed, and did so with a smile.

We are fractional owners at Montecristo, so it was a relief to see that the property was still maintained immaculately.

Villas - FYI, Montecristo is divided between phase I and phase II (newer) - phase I properties are situated higher up on the cliffs so offer better views (IMO) but phase II (where I own) offers newer properties with higher end furnishings (and views are still great). The villas are very luxurious, with a view of Sea of Cortez and a beautiful sunset every night (a view from the infinity private plunge pool is to die for).

Resort Facilities - As a guest of Montecristo, you will have access to the amenities are both Pueblo Bonito Sunset and Pacifica (adult only) resorts (Montecristo sits on a hill behind Sunset resort and Pacifica is further down the hill). There is a 24 hour shuttle van that will take to either resorts on demand (2 min to Sunset, 4 min to Pacifica). Sunset Beach is more lively whereas Pacifica is more serene (Spa resort). We loved Pacifica but it's a matter of personal taste/preference. The fitness centers at both resorts are very nice, better than most hotel/resort gyms.

Dining - Again, Montecristo guests can dine at restaurants at both Sunset and Pacifica resorts. The signature restaurant at Sunset is La Frida, an upscale Mexican restaurant. Strongly recommend the food here, although pricier than other options (such as in town restaurants), the food is worth it. Siempre is the signature restaurant at Pacifica - again, better than most resort food at Mexican resorts. However,to elevate the resort ratings to the next level, I do feel that they need more dining options. There is a great Mexican restaurant in Cabo San Lucas (half way between the resort and the Marina area) called Micasa - strongly recommended for great atmosphere and gigantic margaritas.

Beach - it's the rough Pacific Ocean - do not even dream about swimming in it. We called it "instant death" ocean.

Service - A top notch service everywhere except from the front desk crew at the clubhouse - need to learn how to deal with the clients with more respect.

Overall, you will not be disappointed with the villas at Montecristo, and Cabo offers something for everyone. Enjoy!

You cannot beat the views, size, features, access, vistas, service, or location in very many places around the world. Those who stay are provided an exclusive SPA, Fitness, Pool, check-in lobby, and restaurant. In addition two other world class rated SPAs are on property as well as 7 other pools, 5 other restaurants that are fabulous, and 4 total miles of wide open golden sand beaches with hardly anyone on them at any given time. There are several rock formations in three sections along the beach which provide definition, identification, privacy, and the ability to climb them. One of the most magic places on the planet!
We are multiple fractional owners within these estates as well as the new Novaispania Estates. What a truly fabulous place that renders personal in home daily concierge service as well as 5+ hours per day complete maid service as well.
If you want to getaway in pure luxury and be in a peaceful place that offers privacy, exclusivity, as well as access to all the adventure in Cabo you want when you want it, then this is THE place for you! Gottago

Room Tip: All of the villas are fantastic. We prefer the view of the ones in Phase II.

This home has it all. Its very spacious and has plenty of room for 8 people. Great views over looking the ocean. Comes with its own Infinity pool and Jacuzzi on the deck. The resort down below has everything you need and there building two different golf courses.

Pueblo Bonito Montecristo provides a setting for enhancing one's well-being and for celebrating life whether with spouse, partner, friends, or family members. The hospitality, service, concierge, spa, and villas contribute to a perfect holiday/get-a-way/vacation. We have travelled here for six years now, often twice yearly-the weather, resort, accommodations, etc. never disappoint. the outstanding location on the southern-most tip of Baja Sud and the opportunity to be transported all around the resort from the holistic La Pacifica, to one of property's restaurants like La Frida, or to one of the many pools like the sky top to watch the setting sun is a convenience that is very much appreciated. The friendliness and the cordiality of all staff members and the special touches for birthdays, anniversaries, or other special events make the resort a first-choice for our holidays.

Room Tip: Request buildings 19, 20, 21 high when selecting the condominiums and a villa in phase ii; you can...
