“What a fabulous vacation!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

Stayed at the Monte Christo with two other couples during the week of 4 Jul in a 3 bedroom villa. First of all, the villas are amazing. I would say they are approximately 2700 sq ft, extremely well laid out and beautifully decorated. The top floor has the master bedroom, kitchen (with top of the line stainless steel appliances), living area, and a suspended patio with a jacuzzi. The downstairs has two bedrooms, living area with computer and internet connection and a patio with an infinity pool. We were amazed at the attention to detail in how it was decorated. The beds along with all other furnishings were extremely comfortable. The housekeeping did an amazing job cleaning the villas each day. I've seen some reviews about the inconvenience of being up in a hill, and the walk down to pueblo bonito resort - we found the free shuttle service (every 30 minutes) extremely convenient. The spa, restaurants and the staff were amazing. I would consider this a luxury vacation. Also, taxi to anywhere in Cabo was quite reasonable. Recommend getting the limo service back and forth from the airport. It is just a little more than what you would pay for the resort bus but it was definitely worth it. It was awesome having the car waiting for us with chilled adult beverages (ordered when the car was ordered) to start off the fantastic vacation.

We had 6 adults in a 3BR 3.5BA villa. The villa was fantastic and when you add the facilities at the club house and the other Pueblo Bonito properties it was over the top.

The great thing about being in one of the PB properties is you can use the others. All resorts are linked so you really don't need to bring money. There is a bus between the Sea of Cortez resorts and the Pacific resorts so you can get the wild side and the quiet side of Cabo, Bus is free.

The villa had its own Infinity pool. We watched the sunrise (only once) over our villa pool and then the sunsets at the Clubhouse Infinity pool which is great. The Clubhouse has 2 for one drinks 4-6 and 9-11. That works well.

Food thoughout the PB properties on this trip was fantastic. Note that we were not on an all inclusive so that might matter. Even the Bistro at Sunset Resort was superb and I expected not much from the family restaurant.

We ate a Fridas Restaurant at Sunset. Unbelievable!

So for the quieter times we hung out at the Pacific resorts which is where Montocristo is located, For more action we bussed to PB Rose and hung out at PB Blanco and the Office and Mango Deck. Mango Deck you need to check out. Try the jello shooters.

Everyone had massages at PB Pacifica which is out of this world as spas go. Pacifica is quite a resort -- very dramatic. I will be staying there in Dec. so I will let you know about that too.

We have been guests of homeowners at PB Sunset Beach four times and have also stayed in Cabo at the RUI Santa Fe, the Blanco, Rosa and in Pedregal. Sunset Beach is by far our favorite and we became homeowners this last week with a purchase of the fractional ownership property at the Monte Cristo estates, Phase II, four bedroom. The golf course is now finally becoming a reality and they have started construction on the Viceroy homes at the Southern part of the property. We are very pleased so far with everything. Our complaint lies with the front desk staff at the resort. We were very rudely treated and the front desk people blatantly lied to us regarding an additional one night charge. Too many details to get into, but they tried to double bill us for a one night stay, promised one rate and then upon check-out tried to charge us double what we were told the day before. Of course we challenged the amount and instead of taking us into a private room as we would have preferred, the front desk person made a very loud scene in the lobby drawing attention to himself and the situation. He went as far as to call us liars and incompetent in calculating a room charge. Knowing we were getting nowhere with this gentleman, we went to the sales office and they took care of the problem, immediately. If you have a situation at the front desk, know you have the option of involving the sales team and they are all about customer service and will assist you.

A party of three couples from Birmingham, England, stayed in the Montecristo appartments located in the Quievera area. Our villa was situated half way up the steep mountains in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for two weeks. There were no shops nearby if you wanted to walk. However, the appartments lacked nothing - laundry room, nice kitchen, beautiful bedrooms overlooking swimming pool on the balcony though the master bedroom had the added previledge of having a jaccuzzi outside the bedroom patio door. The view from the balcony was absolutley breathtaking - viewing the ocean and the winding hills. House keeping was excellent on a daily basis. There were three Hotels which were located not too far from the villas were fab especially Pueblo Bonito where the service was 1st class at all times. The food and choice was excellent. Transport was not an issue as the Montecristo management laid on regular transport throughout the day to the three hotels, two of which were situated in the heart of the town centre. My only wish was that transport should have been later. The last coach/bus was just after
11 pm. A car was useful if you wanted to venture out, so no drinking for the driver.

One of my great hi-lights of this trip was a visit to a small winery in the town - Los Cabos winery, Francisco Villa 2518. It was difficutl to find but was well worth it. We were given a tour of the winery and useful info about the making of wine etc by the proprietor Robert Turnage. The first sip of that beautiful sparkling white wine , which would give a good champagne a run for their money, was absolutely out of this world. I am a red wine person, and the red wine was good, but his own sparkling wine claimed a huge 10 out of 10 with all of us. In fact, I need to get a couple of bottles now just thinking about itI We were quite taken with the wine and decided to buy a bottle ,but on second thoughts decided not to, but to attend latr the same evening at the winery for dinner and to enjoy it with dinner. Dinner too was a great success, It is small, private and has a wonderful ambience. I really can't think of one single episode that I can complain about from my time at Montecristo to the time I left. Yes, only one thing, I had to leave. Excellent holiday. If you like fresh sea food and fish in particular this is heaven, though there was plenty of choices. Many hi-lights but too many to mention. Great place.

Room Tip: Montecrosto Villas are detached and are private. You cannot hear your neighbours.

We picked the Montecristo villas after finding an amazing deal online from an owner. For those who are not familiar with the villas, each comes with its own infinity pool and huge hot tub. Ours was a two story, three bedroom. The hot tub was on the second floor just outside of the master bedroom and the pool was downstairs with the other two rooms. The villas have a large, fully equipped kitchen and seating for 6, plus an outdoor table with 5 additional chairs. There is also a computer with wifi located downstairs and a tv in each room. The views from the villas are absolutely breathtaking. Near the entrance to the villas is a clubhouse with a full service bar, infinity pool, Jacuzzi and a decently equipped workout room.

We were worried about privacy since it seems like the villas are right on top of each other, but this wasn’t an issue at all. It’s hard to explain but because of the lay out you really don’t even notice that there are villas on either side of you. We were right next to the main clubhouse and the entrance and we still never had a problem. I did notice the construction below us and wouldn’t recommend the units right near the construction (newer phases ) if you are sensitive to noise because it looks as though construction goes on from early morning until early evening every day.

The pool was the PERFECT temperature and the Jacuzzi was kept at about 103. The spa is not completed yet but we walked through and it looks like it's going to be an AMAZING facility. I've read lots of anger among owners regarding the building process and wanted to note that it didn't look like construction was moving forward at all on the spa. It was kinda at a standstill.

Originally it was just DH and me but we later decided to invite more friends since we had so much space. We had a total of 7 people (3 couples and a solo traveler) and never once did we feel cramped or short on space. I do think 7-8 is probably the most you would want to have if your group is all adults, but if you have kids the villa could easily sleep 10. I used the work out facility once and found the cardio equipment to be amazing while the weight selection just ok, especially if you are looking for lighter weights. We also hit the pool and the clubhouse for a drink. The bartender was not very good and the pool was dead, so we stuck to our place. Drink prices were pretty high at the bar ($10 bloody mary, $12 mimosa, $5 beer) We also used the pools and restaurants at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. We especially loved the sky pool for the view and the lobby pool for the atmosphere. If you get the chance, make sure to try the 7 course tasting menu at La Frida at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. Absolutely phenomenal!

Being able to charge things to the room from any of the PB Resorts and Montecristo was fabulous. We ordered room service once (pizza is REALLY good) and ordered drinks and dinners at the resorts and paid for it at the end. Very nice touch and made it easy to stick around the resort.

One last thing....We didn’t rent a car and in the end we were glad that we didn’t. We used the Sunset Beach shuttle service and thought it was fine. Were there times when we waited for the shuttle? Sure. Did taking the shuttle ever ruin our trip or annoy us? Not in the least. For the shuttle back and forth between Montecristo and PBSB you don’t reserve a spot, it’s just first come first serve. Depending on the time of year the shuttle either runs on a set schedule or is called upon request. Apparently our week was the first time it was caled upon request because of the fact that it is low season. For the shuttle between PBSB to town/PB Rose, you have to request a spot on a shuttle and you receive a ticket. The bus was usually pretty full but never did we see it completely full. The bus was always right on time. We took taxis every once in a while and didn’t find them to be outrageously priced.

By far, this was one of the best resorts I have ever stayed in. A few friends and I stayed at the Montecristo Estates Villas and literally had the best experience one could ask for. The villas are AMAZING - 5 star all the way. Not one detail was overlooked. We also visited Sunset Beach and checked out the rooms and had the reaction - AMAZING!

But, that isn't what even made our visit so special. The service and attention to detail is unbeatable. We had staff checking on us at every turn to see if there was anything at all we needed. They set-up everything from snorkeling to dinner for us at the best places. Their knowledge and expertise made the planning process a breeze and had no worries upon arrival.

I must give a special thank you to Cesar and Joel on property. They made my vacation and I can't thank them enough.

I will definitely be back next year as it can't get much better than Pueblo Bonito!

We had a 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath unit with infinity pool and hottub. The place was very nice. They said it would sleep 10, but the master bedroom could hold 2, the secondary bedroom could only hold 2 if they knew each other well, the third bedroom had 2 beds that were small and he 4th bedroom has a really small bed which was shared by sisters. I would recommed only 8 - the pull out couch was very uncomfortable. The infinity pool, while it was a good size, was very warm each day like bath water. The cleaning service was exceptional! The owner event at the Pacfifica told us our whole group could attend including our 14 year old kids; we asked twice because we heard it was adult only and they assured us it was ok. We made our plans and then 30 minutes before the event start time, they called and told us the 14 year olds could not go and therefore my wife had to stay back - this made it a high stres situation.
Getting down from the Montecristo is a pain. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes and it may or may not be full causing you to wait for another one. If you need to go to the beach, you have to catch the shuttle to the main lobby, walk through lobby and down a couple flights of stairs and then wait for a golf cart whcih could be another 10 minutes. Once down by main pool you have to walk through that area, down steps, to the beach. I am used to the Riveira Maya where the beach is out your door. During the course of the week, i added up between 7 and 8 hours waiting for transportation. One time, at main lobby going up to Montecristo, i waited 20 minutes for shuttle van. it filled up and it took off. I called Montecristo and asked them to send another van and they would not. I described that i already waited 20 minutes and now have to wait another 20 and fight for the front of the line which there was no organization. All they said was, "sorry". I waitied 20 minutes to go up the hill. I heard the service was outstanding - again, give me the Riviera Maya, it is much better. at dinner, our glasses of water stayed empty for a large portion of dinner.

Again, a beautiful place, but not for me or my family.
