“Just like mother would have cooked it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Hey! This is
Home Cookin!
A clam chowder that you can let your spoon sit, straight up in.
A seefood platter that you can just imagine the seefood being caught that day. A dessert like your mother made since you were good all week.
What else do you want? A smiling waitress. You got it and funny.
Just a charming, small, rustic but delicious little country restaurant.
You couldn't ask for more.

“It's at the OTHER End of Stanley Bridge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

We were in Cavendish visiting Anne of Green Gables house and looking for a quick lunch on the way to the Bottle Houses. Checked TA and read about Carr's. So we drove along to the Stanley Bridge, spotted the sign, hit the brakes and wheeled in.

A couple of TA colleagues had said the place wasn't much to look at.

Wow, were they ever right on that one!

Tiny little place.

So we went in and spoke to the woman behind the counter. "We'd like to try a few oysters", we said.

She replied "Sure".

There were no tables inside ... ???

And one solitary picnic table outside ... ???

But, we had heard it wasn't much to look at ...

"Can you shuck them for us?"

"Yes, but it will cost extra."

????

Then she smiled and said "I bet you're looking for the restaurant, aren't you? It's at the OTHER end of Stanley Bridge. This is the market where you buy to take home."

So, once we found the actual Carr's Oyster Bar, it was pretty good! Yes, they have tables, lots of them, both inside and on the deck. Chilly that day so we stayed inside but still enjoyed the wonderful view.

Interior was nothing spectacular, but clean and fresh. Lots and lots of wood. Some artifacts and collectibles on view.

Ordered a bunch of oysters to start.

And a couple of quahogs (or 'quahoags'). We were 'quahog virgins' and concluded that they must be an 'acquired taste'.

She ordered a Caesar. "You mean the drink or the salad", our server asked with a grin. "The drink."

I ordered a caesar, clarifying I meant the salad. A local brew. And a lobster roll. She ordered the lobster roll platter, including cole slaw and potato salad.

All good. (well, except the quahogs!) Home made rolls. Lobster was bare, served with a sauce on the side. Found the portions perfect.

Good service. Good food. Average decor.

“Great Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

Arrived in a downpour, but we had a great time - kids tried every kind of seafood - but the deep-fried clams, pan-fried haddock and scallops were the favourites. Portions were kind of small for the price but the food was delicious. The added bonus was the attached maritime museum and touch tank which the kids loved. Service was super and accommodating of a largish group.

“Be Prepared to Leave Hungry.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

First the good news. Get a table on the deck and enjoy a fabulous view and relax over moderately priced beer and drinks.

However the food served from the kitchen is mediocre at best and the portioning is very small for the price. The exception are the fresh oysters but really who could ruin freshly harvested PEI oysters?

Locals I talked to after our meals said they would never consider eating there. Doh!

“Best oysters in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Love this place, nothing nicer than sitting on the patio right beside the water, drinking a cold beer eating oysters freshly harvested and shucked. Wish I was there now :)
