We arrived on a boiling hot day with a cranky and hungry 1 year old and 3 year old. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The specials menu and lunch menu had lots of choice and were reasonably priced. I had a crab ploughmans which was stunningly presented and was divine! Couldn't rate highly enough and will be back. Only downside was no baby changing!

The bar has a good atmosphere, well furnished with a log fire (on a dank July afternoon) and the staff are welcoming. But at £10.95 for a crab sandwich (50% over the average local price) we expected something a bit special. It had a ritual small salad and cole slaw beside it, but the crab was in slightly short supply. Not good value for money.

Stayed two nights at The Masons Arms. Beautiful location in very well-kept village. We had a Classic Room which was over the bar and looked out onto the front of the hotel. The room was pretty and spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable King size bed and nice bed-linen. Soap, shampoo, body lotion etc in large bottles in the up-to-date bathroom and a tray with plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and bottled water in the room. Thank goodness we had reserved a table in the bar as the restaurant and bar tables were full each night. Menu was good with ample choice of dishes and the food was hot and delicious. Staff were polite and helpful at dinner and breakfast and the whole atmosphere was relaxed and happy. Pretty 10 minute walk through fields to a pebble beach with a number of well-marked walks in various directions. A gorgeous place to stay; well-run, well-staffed and well-maintained, can thoroughly recommend it.

Room Tip: We thought our room over the bar might get some noise but no problem and we slept very well.

We visited the Mason's Arms last Friday as we had met up with a friend who was staying in Sidmouth and it was half way between us. We were at Monkton Wylde caravan site and fortuneately on the Thursday had a 'trial run' so we knew where we were going and also so we could book a table for friday. What a surprise we had when we had negotiated the windy, hilly road into Branscombe. We sat outside on thursday and had a drink and were both surprised how peaceful the village was. On Friday we had a beautiful meal -the three of us could only manage starter and main course but we asked for a 'floater' coffee - the waitress seemed a bit puzzled by our request and asked if it was like an 'Irish' coffee witout the Irish which made us smile. All the staff who served us were very pleasant. This little village is somewhere we have wanted to go for a while as being followers of Show of Hands were intrigued by their song 'Napoli' and wanted to see where it all happened ! It is now on our list to return to next time we are in the area

We escaped to Branscombe for a few nights in the middle of June with our puppy. We arrived and automatically felt welcomed with our dog compared to other places we've stayed in. They put us in a cottage room with a little lawn area outside which was very thoughtful and gratefully appreciated.

The room itself was absolutely beautiful. It was however, incredibly hot and stuffy. Our second night was a little uncomfortable with how hot the room became and the third night was like sleeping in a furnace! Apart from that, it was well equipped for a late night tea which we drank on the little patio outside the room.

The pub served truly wonderful food which came in very generous portions! We couldn't finish off a main course if we'd eaten a starter as well. Everything tasted very fresh and the service was always with a smile. Breakfasts were also delicious, especially the cooked options and the restaurant was so sweet with its old ceiling beams and bending walls!

Would definitely recommend for anyone needing a break from the hustle and bustle of things as Branscombe is very peaceful and relaxing. Will definitely stay again.

If you want to chill out just stay at the Masons Arms for a few nights. This lovely public house is in one of the most peaceful locations that I have ever visited on my travels. The village where it is situated is small, and just a walk away is the most marvellous beach with its own restaurant. If beaches are not to your taste, take a walk in the surrounding countryside where wildlife is abundant and paths are maintained to take pushchairs if you have children.
The hotel itself has a separate location within the grounds with a row of quaint cottages set with outside seating amongst amazing flower beds. The cottages are up a set of steps so that you have commanding views from your room of the surrounding countryside, or you can stay in the main hotel itself.
The food is amazing, some of the best meals that I have had on my travels have come from the Masons Arms.
My advice is just try it, I am sure you go back there, I do!

Room Tip: Book early and choose one of the cottage rooms.

We stayed at the masons arms on the 28th July and loved it !
The location of branscombe is very pretty with great walks for humans and our four legged friends
As a pet friendly hotel, all the staff were very accommodating to our dog, and we were made to feel very welcome.
The food was of an excellent standard and the beer selection was great.
The accommodation was of a high standard and the rooms had all the facilities that you would need
We will definitely return !
