Casa Calderoni is a lovely B&B centrally located in downtown San Miguel. It is within walking distance of the central plaza, restaurants, theatres, and numerous art galleries. There is an artisan market nearby with lots of local shopping and you are surrounded with the hustle and bustle of city life. The villa, turned B&B, opens into an elegantly tiled central courtyard, surrounded with bougainvillea vines. Straight ahead is the media/library room with internet service. Upstairs is the guest livingroom and dining room furnished with mexican furniture and original "Calderoni" art. On the roof is a delightful sundeck, with a view of the city and its wondrous architecture and church spirals. The views are spectacular at sunrise or sunset and it is a great place to meet and visit with your fellow travellers. The guest rooms are small, quaintly furnished and of course have the standard "rock hard" mexican mattresses. The bedding however meets first class hotel standards. The bathrooms also are small but adequate with tiled separate shower stalls. Each room is artfully painted to match one of the french masters and ours was the "Matisse" room. Breakfast is held in the diningroom and the menu is varied with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, bacon and eggs done to your choosing or french toast; a great start to the day. For those wishing to sample the street food, there are wonderful vendors on every corner with mouthwatering scents as you pass by day or night. The B&B is quiet however the rooms are not soundproof and you can "gently" hear your neighbours. There is 24 hour security.
Of special note at this B&B is their on-site day manager Luis Villanueva who is fluent in English and has a wealth of information on what to do in San Miguel. He is able to competently assist with travel arrangements, reservations, and any problems a tourist might encounter.
We hope to return to this beautiful spot.
