“Friendly and smart”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

The first thing I noticed in this place is, they sit families with children in one area and couples in other area, they prefer to avoid people who come to drink a lot, and they treat the restaurant as their own home, they reserve the right to allow (or not) people to enter. It's very cosy, very friendly and very comfortable. They want everybody to feel at home and relaxed.
I loved the food which Uruguayan / Argentinian with notes of Italy.
But what they seem to be experts on, is wine. Every different glass of wine is better than the last, and they told me, the wine is locally made, which makes it uncomplicated or pretentious.

“Excellent Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

I went to dinner with my parents and aunt, during our visit to San Miguel, and experienced incomparable service at La Virundela. The owner made us feel at home sharing stories behind the origin of his restaurant, the barbecuing process and preparation of their special meals. We were welcomed and treated very nicely by the owner and his Italian waiter.

To the food--it was delicious! It was our first time enjoying Argentinian food, and we were impressed. The huge steaks were cooked like we asked and came out so tender, they melted in our mouths. They bake their own bread, and we ate tons of it with their homemade chimichurri sauce--sooo good!

Lastly, we ordered tiramisu & flan, all made at the restaurant. We accompanied them with nice freshly brewed coffee, and enjoyed them over a conversation while listening to a lovely compilation of smooth tangos, waltzes, jazz and other classical music--my mother loved it. My father was given a shot of their homemade Limoncello, which smelled incredibly citrusy, and he reported the taste was superb.

In short, we had excellent attention and service, the food was delectable, and the mood delightful. It was hands down our best meal in San Miguel de Allende. If you want to enjoy a nice and relaxing meal, I hight recommend La Virundela--you will receive outstanding service and have a delicious dinner. One tip, you must make a reservation to get in.

“Incredible Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

I came here during a vacation in San Miguel with my family after reading some favorable reviews online. We were not disappointed, not only was this our best dinner in San Miguel, but one of the best overall experiences any of us have ever had in a restaurant. There were 6 of us and from the moment we walked in, the owner and waiter made us feel like we were in our own home. We started with chorizo and empanadas both of which were prepared to perfection. Next we had salads, I personally had the caprese which was excellent, the mozzarella was some of the best I have ever had and on upon asking we found out that it was made fresh in house. Next out was our main course which was, of course, steak! All of the cuts sounded so good so we decided to order 4 different steaks and split them among the 6 of us. Truly some of the greatest meat I have ever tasted in my life, all 4 cuts would appear in my top 10 list of best steaks ever tasted. The meat is cooked in the traditional argentine style (by an Argentine) and does not disappoint. The meat needed no sauce or seasoning, it was a perfectly cooked, juicy steak with only salt to bring out the meats natural flavor. With the steaks we had a side of seasoned french fries, I would normally not even comment but these were honestly delicious. I had not mentioned it up to this point but they have a very nice list of argentine wines which paired excellently with the food. After the steaks we could barely breathe but we could not turn down the food here so we had tiramisu with coffees, both of course were excellent. I know I have been talking about the food and at a restaurant that should be the main appeal, but the service and overall experience were of equal value. I honestly cannot say enough about this restaurant and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to dine. I guess the last thing to mention is price, while it is probably not the cheapest place to eat in San Miguel it is worth every penny and was not expensive at all by United States standards. I imagine a similar meal in the US would have cost near 1000 dollars and we only paid 300. Thank you for the excellent experience Virundela!

“Great steak”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013 via mobile

Expensive but excellent. Steaks are huge, split one with your wife. Superb wine. Best steak we've had in years. Great service, nice facility, even good music. A bit surprising to hit Argentine style security door. Sweet potato fries and spinach empanadas also excellent.
