After writing my review, but before actually submitting it, I was surprised to read several negative reviews from others. Are we talking about the same hotel?? Our experience was totally enjoyable, with great service and attention to every detail from the staff. And, curiously, the pool photo shown, with palm trees and sunny balconies overlooking white plastic chairs, is NOT the pool at this hotel. Although I don't have a clear photo of the pool itself, I am submitting a photo showing the high walls, the decking, and the loungers of the pool area of the HdG hotel. Now...for my review, as written prior to reading negative reviews.
Traveling, with only part of an afternoon and 1 night available to spend in San Miguel de Allende, we elected to stay at the small boutique hotel Hacienda de Guadalupe, located 1/2 block from the center plaza. Housed in the 400-year old convent of the Guadalupana nuns, the hotel has been magically transformed into a combination of Spanish architecture with modern conveniences.
Our king-bed suite was nicely appointed, with upgraded linens on a comfy mattress. The bathroom had modern fixtures with a Mexican flair, the towels were soft and fluffy, and the bathrobes were a nice extra touch.
The restaurant's wine cellar offered a wide selection of very nice wines. A live salsa band in the restaurant was from 8pm until 11pm, drew a salsa-dancing crowd that we enjoyed being a part of.
Service was exemplary, from every employee we encountered. Our every request was immediately and graciously honored.
As our time was limited, we did not use the unheated pool or the spa services. We will definitely recommend this hotel, and we will stay again, for more than 1 night!
