Check in: Fri Mar-16-2012
My family were greeted by a very rude woman, she was just ice cold... rude. While checking in late (by 7pm)... Not even a "Welcome" word, just a "sing here" with a long face. We asked for information on where to go for dinner and she just pointed with her hand "there" to a table with brochures... a cleaning lady was more helpful and gave us some personal recommendations, the receptionist woman in the morning had better attitude but we asked for the manager and she said that he/she (the manager) could not help us and send a "sorry".

AVOID ROOM 101...!!! room was nice, bit It was like sleeping on the street, the room is very noisy, you can hear people talking/walking on the street and motor vehicles plus the smell of the cars (carbon monoxide) gets inside the room... woke up with a headache each morning... we asked for a different room but not help from the manager. The third night we moved to a different hotel were other relatives were staying and finally were able to sleep!

ROOM 101 Should NOT be a guest room, it should be some kind of a office or the reception.. it is located just on the side of the street. Noise all night until 3-4am and the noise starts again around 6-7am.

The Hotel is very well located, "maybe" the other rooms are fine, but not 101.

Room Tip: AVOID ROOM 101 (European Plan rate)... located on the side of the street, very noisy, and smell gets...

Thank you for your review.
we take very seriously your opinions and the following changes have been made, that rude receptionist is no longer working with us, we have on both shifts english speaking friendly receptionists, about room 101 we have duo vent system windows scheduled for this month which will isolate all the noise from the exterior, but we have checked the room four times i have even slept there twice and we can 100% guarantee the is NO carbon monoxide penetrating the room there is No hazard at all
we are sorry for your inconviniences.

We arrived Feb 11th it was pouring rain and the entire entrance and lobby area was soaked! They say they upgraded us to the master suite. It was a real dump im afraid to say. The people at the front desk could not speak english so it was pretty much impossible to get anythwere with them. On the afternoon shift one girl had some english so we asked for an umbrella. Well she said the only one they had was broken from a previous guest. It had been raining apparently for several days so why not buy a few and sell them to us instead of sending us out into the rain to walk for 4 blocks to buy one for about 5$.
We were booked for 4 nights and after 3 we had enough so we asked to leave a day early this was 9am and we wanted to go the next morning. Well, 3 inquiries later we were told no. The boss was away the boss was off shift come later to ask etc etc etc. The best could do by 10pm that night was agree to have them keep half of one nights payment to allow us to go one day early. So the next day comes and we are ready to leave and ask for our car. Well, nobody speaks english so we wait and wait and wait to the point that she gets someone on the phone twice to ask us where our car is and who we left it with? We tell them that the fellow at the front desk 3 days earlier took it to park it. They ask us his name and where he took it? Well we dont know but try to tell her that it was their employee. Anyways 45 minutes later and we finally get our car back. We were totally sure it had been stollen. They charged us 150 pesos a day to park it and we find out its about 1 mile away. There is a parking garage a half block away so why did they take it so far?? I'd avoid this place.

Room Tip: choose a different hotel

Thank you for your feedback
Regarding your comments, we have made significant changes since your visit, we have english speaking staff on all shifts, and parking is free for all of our guests.
The parking garage that is a half a block away closes at 9 pm we don´t work with them since many of our guests come to san miguel for weddings or late night events, we have our own parking spot with 24/7 availability.
Your feed back is very important for us and we are always looking forward to improving!
we hope to see you soon in our hotel

Best regards!

I was really looking forward to staying at Casa Quetzal based on previous reviews, although apprehensive after reading the recent very negative one. Our experience was not terrible but there is much room for improvement here. I think the problem stems from the change in management which occurred last August. The new staff speaks very little English so are not able to make recommendations for helping to make the most of a stay in San Miguel. However, they were pleasant and did try to assist us at times. Our room (#301) was the master suite with a lovely terrace overlooking the town. We were grateful for the fireplace which kept us warm on those chilly nights. The room itself was pleasant enough and clean but was "tired" and in need of some upgrades especially in the bathroom (old tiles and fixtures). The lighting is very weak so some areas were too dark. The linens were old and should be upgraded. I believe this is the only room that has wifi access.
Breakfast is no longer served at the hotel. Instead you receive a voucher for a nearby cafe which was a nice place but rather inconvenient and choices were limited.
The terrace where I believe they used to serve breakfast and beverages throughout the day was certainly not as appealing as shown on the website. The communal jacuzzi was not in operation.
San Miguel itself was absolutely delightful. The hotel location was great and close to the Jardin. We spent hours just walking around the city and stopping in at the many shops, galleries and restaurants. We enjoyed sitting in the Jardin and watching all the activity. We also rented an ATV and went on our own exploring the surrounding countryside which we highly recommend. We felt perfectly safe wherever we went. The people of SMA were very nice and helpful. We would also recommend a visit to the El Charco botanical garden (a 10 minute taxi ride).
We will definitely return to San Miguel in the future but choose an different hotel.

Nice place, calm, clean and good service. I think the only thing they should change is the glass door to get more privacy.

Room Tip: Corner suites are really quiet.

I was greeted by the most unprofessional reception woman I have ever encountered in years of traveling. Icy cold, rude, without affect and clearly without experience in interacting with other human beings in any professional setting. The room was so cold, I slept in all of my clothes. The large TV was situated above a desk, so the only way to view was by sitting in a desk chair. The property was potentially beautiful! Just not one positive vibe in the place. Management should re-evaluate and review and hire staff who are capable of welcoming guests with a modicum of warmth...perhaps a smile? The other glowing reviews of this property are mystifying and suspect, in my estimation. This could be a fabulous spot. But it is not.
