The Posada La Ermita was really a great place to stay. The view was fantastic, and the rooms were cleaned every day. The walk from the desk to our room was 123 steps up. Very tiring after a day or night on the town. It was the first RCI place we stayed in that did not have a kitchen. Which meant if you wanted coffee, cold drink, whatever, 123 steps down, 123 steps up. The bus stops right outside of the Condo and its only 3 peso (30 cents) by bus up or down. But, the bus stops running around 9 p.m. or so. Taxi are 15 pesos during the day and 20 pesos at night (1.50 or 2.00 USD). You take and catch the bus or taxi right near the Templo de San Francisco, which is on San Francisco and Juarez No one has change. The bus, the taxi or the Condo. So make sure whatever means of transportation you use, get change before hand. There are money changes near the center of town. Although almost everyone in town speaks English, the personnel at the Condo were not that proficient. They were great, friendly, helpful and they tried. Condo coffee was, well it just was. We enjoyed going to Lefty and Poncho on Mesones 99 for coffee and desert. (No Visa)I am sure there are others but we really enjoyed eating at Tio Lucas on Mesones 103. The T bone steak was fantastic, happy hour 5-8, Music at 9, they speak English and take Visa. Romanos, on Hernandez Macias 93, was a great Italian resturant, upstairs, outback or inside. Food was more than enough. Happy hour all day, No Visa. Agave on Mesones 80 was another great place to eat. Happy hour, music and Visa. A great place for snacks in the afternoon was the Library (Biblioteca Publica) on Insurgentes. Buy the newspaper there, the Attencion, it has a schedule of what is going on for the week. Paper comes out on Friday. Snack bar, bathrooms, gift shop, movies, and tours, the Library is a nice place to spend some time and rest. There is also a Miami Hearld that comes out in English, daily. You can get them on the square (El Jardin). There are hundreds of Art Gnde 11. Artist Rueffert, Heady, Mallory and upstairs Osman were outstanding. Had a great week. Transportation back to Leon to catch the plane is expensive. You can sometimes make deals with taxi cabs. No bus goes directly to the airport. So you end up taking a cab in SM to bus station, Bus to Leon and then Cab to airport. Best deal we found was Rodriguez on Hildago 8, upstairs. Hard to get use to places not opening until 10 or 11 then closing till 2 and opening up at 4 to 7 or 8. Had a great week. John and Barbara.
