“review?”

Wow, pretty negative. I don't disagree...but
Have you any personal or financial connections with Bellas Artes?

“Avoid like the plague”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2006

As a previous MFA student I can attest that everything negative about this place is 100% true. Beaurocratic nightmares, terrible instruction, alcoholic or know-nothing instructors. Everyone associated with the place (other than the students) seems to be completely apathetic about art or teaching.

Bellas Artes is a much better school, but you may need to speak reasonable Spanish to attend. Unless you want to be ripped off, avoid Instituto Allende. One possible exception is the Jewery class - the instructor Abe is energetic and helpful.

“rating a big minus”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2005

Be sure to read the agreements made before signing up or giving over any cash or money because you will never get a refund UNDER ANY circumstances. Even the American Counseler office is powerless in desputes with the heads of this place. Don't expect help when in need from this place. Do expect to get the runaround of missed meetings

“There might be worse art schools in the world”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2004

Sorry, but this place is a tourist cash grab. Be very careful before signing up for a class. Instructors are either lazy, uninformed or hung over (and usually 30 minutes late). The school offers a very expensive MFA program - please talk to the currently enrolled students there before even thinking about signing up. They can give you horror stories about laughably bad classes and beaurocratic nightmares. The "President" of the instituto knows little about art and is only interested in fattening his wallet.

Sadly, the school continues to coast on its 1960's reputation. Then, it was run by genuine philanthropists, but now is run by their 2 sons.

You're better off taking classes at Bellas Artes, 3 blocks up the street.
