July 28, 2008
I was a guest from June 23 to July 7, 2008. Reyna is a most welcoming and hospitable hostess with a good command of English. If you want to practice your Spanish, she will be only too happy to accommodate you. The house is spacious with a cute back patio/garden, and the rooms are very clean and comfortable with bath and daily maid service. Reyna can arrange your van connections to and from the airport, and if you want to take a day trip out of San Miguel, she will graciously arrange a car or van for you as well.
The price includes breakfast and lunch (main meal of the day in Mexico) from Monday to Friday at a time which is convenient to guests. The food is spectacular...fresh juices, fruit and salads, homemade soups, interesting Mexican cuisine (which is a lot more sophisticated than some people give it credit for), and a varied choice of sauces and entrees. Vegetarians are equally accommodated with this delicious fare. Reyna puts both love and creativity into the preparation of all her food. Not one meal was repeated in the two weeks I was there. Purified water is available at all times. No stomach problems here !
The location is in a quiet area about a 20 minute walk north to the jardin, about a 7 minute walk to the Instituto Allende. My daily walks gave me the opportunity to explore small streets and areas I may never have seen....photo ops at every turn. I passed daily through the charming Parque Benito Juarez on my way to the more bustling center. Local artists display their wares here on the weekend.
If you plan on visiting San Miguel, I would highly recommend a stay at Casa de Reyna (Reyna's B&B).
