“A neat jump back in time, good exercise too!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

It's a reasonably steep path up to this Citadel, but the ascent doesn't take too long and you are rewarded with great views of the French countryside upon reaching the top, along with a very cool historical building to explore.

The prison system on the lower and underground levels of the Citadel is surprisingly large, and has some fun ladders / steps to climb.

A great place for Game of Thrones fans to visit!

There are also multiple walking tracks sign posted around the back of the castle.

“Fabulous site and restoration of citadel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

Visited this stunning historical viewpoint today. The citadel is being restored to some degree and is fun to explore and take photos from. Walk up not too hard on a cloudy day. Enjoyed the basic English handout but would have really appreciated English in the museum area. Village below is worthy of a browse, natural village without the tourist rat race. Incorporated with the train ride a really good day's outing and a change from the hype of Mediterranean tourism. Worthwhile destination for day trip.

“Good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

Interesting walk up to the top of the citadelle. They are obviously doing restoration work. Health and safety issues with high drops off unprotected stairways and scary tunnel ladders. Most people without vertigo should be ok but be careful with children.

“Exhilarating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2014

A good 500' climb but great views with the bonus of no shops and no one to tell where not to go.
If you exit the rear there is a good path which climbs maybe another 600 feet to the top of a small hill giving further extensive views

“Great place for a brisk walk and to see a quaint little French town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

The narrow –gauge train from Nice to Digne makes several stops along the way. The train doesn’t run often, so if you miss the one at 0925 then the next one doesn’t leave until 1305. Accordingly, unless you take the morning train, you don’t have time to get to Digne, do some sightseeing and then get back to Nice at a reasonable time. I took the 1305 train from Nice and went to one of the towns on the way called Entrevaux. It is a beautiful little town, which is well worth a visit. It is approximately 1½ hours from Nice.
When you get off the train, you immediately see the town across the river, which you get to by crossing a drawbridge. There are a couple of beautiful bar/restaurants in the squares inside the old city and a boulangerie and other shops before you enter the old city. In the old city, there is a labyrinth of intertwining narrow alleys, each giving a unique view. The church inside the old city is beautiful and worth visiting.
Above the old city is the citadel. You need to pay €3 to enter the museum that then opens on to a walking track to the citadel. The winding path to the citadel is quite steep, but the path has been beautifully paved which makes walking a pleasure. It takes 30-40 minutes to climb, but the views in all directions are worth the view. The citadel is being progressively restored and gives a good insight in to how it would have looked at the times.
Entrevaux was certainly worth the visit and I would highly recommend it.
