“Taste And Class in Balgowlah!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

I was introduced to Connect Dining last night by friends who go there regularly. What a wonderful experience! The food was magnificent and the service faultless. The combination of Western and Eastern flavours left the mouth wanting to sample more. For a small restaurant, there was a wonderful choice of dishes. The Tuesday and Wednesday special deals are a big draw card for those on a budget: share an entre and a desert and have your own main meal for $29 per head! Naturally corkage is extra.

“A Touch of French Shanghainese”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

There we plenty of little restaurants on either side of Sydney Road, Balgowlah, but the one that caught our eye was "Connect Dining". As we opened the door, we were welcomed by a very friendly maître d who introduced himself and ushered us to our table.

As we sat down a young friendly waitress appeared with a bottle of water and filled our glasses. The exchange of pleasantries was warm, friendly and relaxed. The wonderful ambience was augmented with soft piano music playing in the background. The overhead lighting was muted but sufficient to read the menu.

The Grilled Sea Scallops with cauliflower puree and crispy dumplings looked enticing. My wife settled for the Salt & Pepper Baby Calamari served with rocket salad and lime aioli.

We waited less than 15 minutes before our entrees were served. I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled sea scallops – they were very fresh and light on the palate, not oily or saturated with sauce – perfectly cooked and served. The salt and pepper baby calamari was tasty and pleasant.

For the main course I chose the Crispy Duck Breast which was served with truffle mash, seasoned greens, confit leg and grand mariner sauce. My wife ordered the Shanghai Bouillabaisse - Blue Cod fillet, prawn, mussel, shell broth and radish tofu.

Again – we did not wait very long before our main courses arrived, beautifully presented in two large plates.

Both main courses were exquisitely delightful to the palate, light, mouth- watering tasteful and not too over whelming. Visually, the size of the servings appeared modest, but this was deceptive because towards the end of the meal we felt that we had, had sufficient.

The desserts were not as adventurous as the entrees and main courses but sufficiently complemented the succulent food that we enjoyed. I ordered the vanilla panacotta which was served with a tangy sorbet to clear the palate. The chocolate pyramid that my wife ordered was light, not too sweet, had a lovely texture and successfully tickled the taste buds.

In summary, we will return to this little Touch of French Shanghainese restaurant because it provides friendly excellent service, it’s unpretentious, serves fresh tasty healthy food at affordable prices.

“Great discovery in Balgowlah at Connect Dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

We went to Connect Dining last night for the first time - it was lovely.

Very warm and attentive service all the way through the meal from Ori and Jenny.

Complimentary bread, chilled water and $3 corkage on BYO. Very good modern menu. We both had scallops and dumplings for entree, then veal and lamb for main - both delicious,. Nice chat potato side and mushroom and spinach side as well - veggies on mains were sufficient so sides were a yummy addition but probably not strictly necessary. Then Tiramisu for dessert for Mr - which he said was great too. Dessert options were limited and fairly traditional.

$10 kids menu noted on menu (dishes not described).

We parked right outside and left the car (no Sunday Parking restrictions) and apparently there is parking out the back too.

The chef came out for a chat at the end of the night which was a nice touch.

Food was very good value and portions were generous. Entrees $20 and mains $28. Total bill was $128 for two. it was great to have such good food and be able to BYO. A 20% off for next visit voucher was a welcome surprise - we'll be back and might take the tribe next time!
