We stayed just one night but wish we could have made it at least two or three. The house is a charmingly restored old building, furnished with taste and restraint. It achieves a very relaxed blend of old-fashioned, Bohemian English and French decor.
Our room (The Green Room) was a decent size, although the extra bed we opted for our daughter obviously ate up much of the free space. The beds were comfortable and the towels and bathrobes had a luxurious fluffiness. The pool provided the perfect antidote towards the end of a hot day - it is a good size, designed, built and maintained to high standards and surrounded by a lovely garden. We enjoyed a good dinner (table d'hote) and wine sat in the same garden with some fellow guests.
Rob and Michele were very good hosts, making us feel perfectly relaxed and at home from the time we arrived to the moment we left. The other guests with whom we spoke said they return two or three times a year to stay at Sengresse. It's easy to understand why. Staying there feels like a soothing break in some magical time and place where everything is happy and well with the world.
The only minor quibble - and the one reason I'm not giving the maximum rating - is because the near area, while lovely to look at, offers few things to do, especially if you have children. We had a walk through nearby fields in the morning and spotted two deer which delighted our daughter. Bats in the garden at night and Michelle's account of the owl room entertained her too. And our hosts' dog was a friendly character around the house. But, beyond the fauna, there didn't seem to be much to maintain her interest for more than a couple of days.
That said, we all had a memorable and very happy short stay in Souprosse. Stay there for a night or three if you are in the Landes region. You'll be glad you did.
