We have stayed 2 weeks in the Enalion in room 7 to be exact. The hotel is right smack bang on the front and you can lie on a lounger straight across the road from it. As long as you buy drinks and snacks the beds are free. Our room is a good size with a decent fridge and kettle so we can enjoy proper cups of tea. One tip - bring your own tea bags. We bought up all the Earl Grey in Kala Nera and stocks of other teas were low. But it is end of season. Usual complaint about the shower curtain that seems to vacuum wrap itself round your wet body. There is a decent sized sofa in the room with windows on two sides and a good sized balcony that overlooks the pool. At weekends you are woken by the bell from the church at the back but that just adds to the atmosphere. I think the staff are great. One of the waitresses gave good advice about small beaches on the Aegean side of the peninsula that were worth visiting. The menu in the restaurant is quite wide ranging and the quality very good. We ate in around five times during the fortnight and never got bored. They give bread and dips at the start of the meal so no real need to order a starter unless you're reay famished. Likewise with dessert, they always serve you a tasty little yoghurt or cake for free. What else? Rooms are clean and well presented. Nothing tired. The hob as part of the sink set up looks not up to much and we certainly never tried self catering. Why would you with a choice of tavernas in town that charge round 7 to 8 euros for a main course. After the first couple of days we branched out and drove down the coast to: Afissos then Lefokastro (follow road inland to get to it from Afissos don't take the dangerous coast road we were advised) and then Horto and Olive Bay and Milina. All delightful. On the Aegean coast we loved Laminou beach because it was small and unspoiled. Only pud on the horizon - all the stray dogs that roam around. Apparently people in Volos come out here to dump their unwanted dogs. If you're a dog lover then the sight of homeless dogs is very sad. And if you're not keen on dogs you'll object to their dropping in on you as you eat in the open air.

Stayed for 1 week , 5th July . Flew to Volos airport , great airport , flew with Germania from Gatwick , new planes , good seats for us fatties , recommend them. Taxi to Kala Nera , cost €50 , took about 90 mins , almost had to force the driver to accept a tip . And that could sum up our holiday , lovely people , very polite , very very generous . I will expand on this a bit later
Enalion hotel , the staff are charming , the manager is very helpful and will give advice , book trips for you , even update you , if they meet you wandering around the shops during their break . The bar and restaurant staff are very attentive and lovely people we had room 5 , which had a large lounge with a/c and a tv , sofa , sofa bed , tv , and fridge , cooker , kettle . A large bedroom also with a/c , tv ( never turned on ) lots of windows . Large bathroom with whirlpool bath . Cleaned every day , super , all this with breakfast , at such a reasonable price . We could have gone half board ever so cheaply , but decided that we wanted to make ourselves eat out at different places , even though the kala nera tourist information did not list many restaurants . Needn't have worried , probably about 20 different places to eat , including Enalion , where we had some lovely dishes
The town is small , with a road along the beach , priority is to anyone walking , so no worries , average car speed is about 10mph at max . The beach has loads of sun beds , all are free , but if you eat or drink , do please order from whichever bar has the sun beds , the streets are cleaned twice a day . At one greek taverna , we had a tip refused as it was too much , and this was after they had given us free ouzo , 3 glasses of apple wine , and an ice cream , we were only trying to pay €22 for a €18 bill , went on 2 trips , one on a train , and a 9 hour boat trip from the pier to the islands and beaches on the peninsula , which was fantastic , due in a large part to the lovely greek crew and 2 lovely greek ladies . If you want charm , and a relaxed time , I thoroughly recommend the Enalion hotel and Kala Nera
Oh I forgot , the pool is good, the drinks are great , it was all very lovely

Room Tip: Room 5 , upstairs , outside tables for you to sit at in various places, so some will be in the shade...

We've Just returned from a week staying at the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it, the place is spotless, the staff were lovely and the location perfect, breakfast had a good choice and the food in the restaurant was very tasty and the portions were very generous, it's just across the road from the shingle beach with free beds and umbrellas for guests and the views across the pagasitic gulf are simply stunning, the only reason we didn't give it 5 stars are the usual complaint that Greek bathrooms are pretty poor, small and with the dreaded shower curtain and the foiled chipboard vanity unit had "blown". Kala Nera is a nice resort with about a dozen tavernas and slightly fewer bars, when we were there the tourists were only about 5-10% of the people there which made it feel very authentic unlike some of the islands, we'd thoroughly recommend the hotel and resort

Room Tip: Avoid room 7, the pump for the swimming pool is right outside the room and although it doesn't r...

The Enalion Hotel is excellent! We went with Ionian & Agean Island Holidays toward the end of May 2013 and stayed in one of the four studios in a separate building at the back of the hotel. The room was basic but very comfortable, spotlessly clean and reasonably big. Our room had windows on three sides and caught the sun all day long and our sunny balcony over looked the very attractive pool area which proved to be a lovely relaxing and sheltered oasis. The road on which the hotel sits is, in fact, quite quiet with no through traffic. This holiday more than fulfilled our expectations.

Plus points:
1. Extremely friendly, helpful and supportive staff.
2. Five or six excellent waterfront tavernas within five minutes walk - the hotel restraunt was also excellent.
3. Very well stocked supermarket with wonderful wine section.
4. Big fridge in our room to keep our own bottle of wine cool (plus basic cooking facilities).
5. Delicious breakfast.
6. Free sun beds and umbrellas on the beach, for residents.
7. In May the sea and pool were well warm enough for swimming.
8. The surrounding countryside was fascinating and beautiful.

Downside:
1. On the way, the plane had to touch down in Skiathos, adding to the flight time.
2. The drive through Velos was abit of an adventure despite the very clear written instructions.

We highly recommend the Enalion Hotel and hope to go again.

We stayed in the Enalion hotel for 5 nights with kids and grand kids. An excellent vacation. This is a small hotel in a very convenient location. Out of volos - 15 minutes of easy drive east, 50 meters from the beach - front line on the open - just cross the quiet village street. Easy access to the mountain's villages and trails - we trecked with the small kids for 3 days - from Milies along te old railroad and up to Vizitse (trails # 10+8) , from millies to Tsagakarada (#11), and along the eastern coast (#13). (Take a topographic map at the front desk). Highly Recommended. Kala Nera has more than enough restaurants - what can we say more about that basic, tasty, nice Greek kitchen... The rooms are top clean, Breakfast is rich and nicely served. The Staff was very friendly. Great value for money.

Just two nights off-season, but sitting on our balcony overlooking the beach and sipping wine as the sun was setting - a perfect escape.
