“French Freedom Holidays - Rogue Traders (Domaine d'Inly, Penestin)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

Firstly let me say that Domaine d'Inly itself is nice, friendly and with good facilities. On site restaurant has great food, which was a pleasant surprise. The surrounding area is beautiful and the one beach we visited stunning. I should add that nearly all the other firms which operate at this site park appeared to have modern, clean accommodation on offer. So don't be put off Domaine d'Inly.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said of FRENCH FREEDOM HOLIDAYS who lease several pitches in the holiday village and provide their own filthy, squalid, wretched excuses for caravans.

The welcome you get on arrival says it all. French Freedom Holidays on site "reception" caravan looks derelict, with piles of junk dumped outside. Inside was worse; fetid and stinking of stale cigarette smoke. It was more akin to a squat, being littered with full ash trays, dirty wine glasses and filth. The comparably destitute English sales rep that emerged (at 5pm) was clearly drunk and although not verbally immediately rude to us, was extremely offensive to the senses. She was very rude to members of my family who complained. Incidentally she spoke very poor French, too. When we complained we were told that we could look elsewhere, but that the rest of the park was fully booked (this at least was true).

The caravan, mobile home, call it what you will was extremely damp inside upon arrival. I would guess the age of the caravan to be circa 30 years. The majority of soft furnishings were of similar vintage, with commensurate stains and smells. Dust, grime and fecal matter were all present and correct. The levels of cleanliness were disgusting. I have travelled extensively in third world countries, staying in budget accommodation, and yet nowhere did standards sink quite as low as those of a French Freedom Holidays caravan.

In short DO NOT BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY WITH FRENCH FREEDOM HOLIDAYS.

Room Tip: Do not under any circumstances book with French Freedom Holidays

Actually, we found this park good for our kids who are both age 7. They loved it. Our main problem was that we booked thru Welcome France an agent for French Freedom Holidays and as a result we got the shabbiest mobiles in the park. This was agreed by 3 of our neighbours all stuck in the smae ancient mobile homes. All other mobiles on site either owned by the park or by other holiday agents were top class, bran new and far superior to ours. While others were equiped with kettles, microwaves toasters, and seating without burns and stains, we had the misfortune to have none of these so-called luxuries and spent half an hour each morning waiting for the gas kettle to heat up, the mouldy grill to toast our bread etc. We were also all in the shade both day and night, while we sat watching other mobile users nearby sit in the sun having their BBQ. There is no doubt that French Freedom have the cheapest sites and mobiles available on the campsite. And as for our BBQ, it was absolutely manky. The park was good value for money, after all it is far cheaper than most. The reps with French Freedom/Welcom France however with frightful. There were 2 of them who barely bothered to conversate with us on arrival except to tell my kids how awful the weather was and was to continue to be, image their poor little faces. They sent us to reception rather than answer any questions or help us in any way. Could not tell us anything about the free kids camp that we were told about before we booked, therefore our kids had no kids camp. The only time we saw the 2 of them after booking in was when we were having a drink at the bar. They never once appeared by day in the camp. When leaving we approached one of them to say we were going and ask about leaving the key and he just said oh just leave it under the step. NOt a goodbye, thank you, hope you had a pleasant stay, nothing. Some holiday reps, it was a handy summer job no doubt. This was enough to put me off booking with French Freedom/Welcome France ever again. The bar had some nice entertainment for kids, the playground and bouncy castle were lovely, ping pong games and 2 trampolines, but only one of which
was available, but all that including the pools were good for the kids. The restaurant however was appauling. There is a lovely village called Penestin withing 5 mins drive which had some fab restaurants and well worth a drive for some great food. The girl in reception could not have been more friendly and helpful and the bar staff were great craic and really good with the kids,

The place is awful for the money that they charge. The vans that you stay in are as clean as the people who left them before you (needless to say the one I stayed in is now really clean for the next lot of unfortunates). In order to give you a fair picture I will list the good things about the place. 1) My children could play out with other kids outside of the van 2) The people that we met 3) Our van had covered decking so we could sit and watch the kids play and that about it...Oh and Parc prehistoric which was excellent value for money! and entertainment value.
If you are English and don't speak very much French- you are in trouble because nobody speaks English AT ALL! and there is no real effort made towards the English. Fair play some may say, you are in France- Yes, but you don't even get a fair objective of how nice the French can be when you are in this hole of a holiday camp. The swimming pool is ice cold and dangerous as the floor is slippy and concrete. They allow dogs which I was not aware of and would not have booked to stay in this kind of accomodation if I had known. IT is a big rip off and has put me off holiday villages full stop!

Hello, we do understand the reason why you are unhappy and we are sorry if your holidays on our campsite were not as good as you expected. Dogs are allowed in our campsite as indicated in our brochure and website. Our teammembers try to speak english as good as they can and we are sorry if you felt not understood.
Concerning the swimming pool, mesuring is done all season and the average temperature of the swimming pool is 28°C.
Our cottages must be clean. If yours was in a less clean state, we apologize for it, because it was not up to our standard. We like to inform you that in 2012 our cleaning team will be strengthened.
We are satisfied that your children were able to have fun on the playground of the campsite and that you were able to spend some good moments in spite of these problems. Best regards.

We stayed here in a Vacances-Directes mobile home. Firstly let me say there is nothing wrong with Vacances-Directes - their mobiles are of the highest quality. This is a French company catering mostly to French customers, but their prices are very competitive, especially in late August after the main holiday season.
The site got off to a bad start with us because the entrance barrier control is only for LHD cars. OK, it is a French site but all the other sites we have stayed at did make provision for us Rosbifs! This was a niggle that really grated by the end of the stay.
This is a site that is replacing touring emplacements with mobiles - packing them in! The tourers' facilities are a long way from their pitches, but appeared to be clean and in good repair.
There are lots of large pine trees with cones to match. Don't half give you a scare when they bounce off the roof. Beware where you park, they would dent the car or break a sunroof easily.
There is a takeaway - not used and a bar - restaurant. Not too noisy and it did finish at midnight sharp so didn't keep us awake. (The pine cones were another story)
The site does allow dogs and the evidence is all over the place- nasty! The pool facilities are small and the covered pool especially so and consequently very crowded. There isn't a play area for small kids worthy of the name. There is a large pond used for fishing and pedalos. The site shop is OK and not too badly priced, but it was lacking in fresh produce. There is a Champion ( now Carrefour I believe) supermarché in Penestin which is just within walking distance. Beware Sundays - there is a market so the main road through the village is shut and the traffic is consequently a nightmare.
We sought entertainment mostly off site. Within a reasonable drive you will find:
Le Parc de Prehistoire - very good
Branféré Zoo - very good
Le Croisic Aquarium - not bad
The walled city of Guérande - very good
Monkey Forest! a zip line activity park - not bad
The bridge over the Loire at St Nazaire - great view from the top.
The standing stones around Carnac.
2 hours from Le Puy du Fou - near enough :)

Also nearby is the major resort of La Baule-Escoublac. It is built along a nice sandy bay. If you want to visit, go early because it gets packed and parking becomes impossible. It was simply too busy for us.

Finally I have to say this was one of the least friendly sites I have visited. Our French neighbours, with whom we exchanged polite bonjours, told the manager that we had broken her drier. She was not ten feet away and very expressive. Her embarrassment was almost satisfactory when I revealed that my French went beyond good day!

It did not put us off France, but we will not stay here again.
