“Great place to stay on the beach in Tulum!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2009

We stayed in a partial view room at Ocho for four days at the end of September. We had a great view of the ocean and loved the small balcony attached to our room. The beach was right outside the door of our room, which was incredible! Our room was kept very clean and had a safe and a table and chairs which came in handy. We rented a car (which is a very good idea in Tulum) and never had a problem with parking. We found all of the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Alex, in particular, was very accomodating. We had a couple of meals in the restaurant and they were good- although we never made it in time for the complimentary breakfast. (the free breakfast was not strongly advertised! Make sure to ask for it if you want it!) Our room was pretty small, but worked well for us as we mostly enjoyed the gorgeous beaches! The showers use a mix of salt and fresh water and that takes a little getting used to. We spent a lot of time walking up and down the beautiful beach and were able to check out the other resorts, as they are stacked very close to each other. From what we saw, we were very happy that we were staying at Ocho. It may be slightly more expensive than some of the other resorts, but the service and quality are worth it!

My boyfriend and I are obsessive travel researchers... before going to Tulum we read every review on TripAdvsior and looked into every possible hotel we could stay at. After months of research we decided on Ocho... and it did not disappoint. The beach for one is breathtaking - out of this world beautiful... not only that but our beach front room was well appointed, clean and very comfortable despite the heat and no air con (as it's an eco lodge there is no aircon - but the fans sufficed in very hot weather!). The restaurant at Echo is really nice as well... very open and looks out over the beach... the food is of very high quality. The menu is limited though so I recommend walking along the beach to try restaurants at other hotels - just for a bit of variety.
The only possible down side I can think of is that at times the service in the restaurant was a little bit slow... but that was an incredibly minor downside to an otherwise fantastic experience!
I would recommend this to ANYONE! In fact I have already recommended it numerous times...
I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

First off, I love Mexico. It is such a beautiful country with such wonderful people. So kind, thoughtful and helpful. I have been to several different resorts and thought that I would try out something a bit more intimate and I made the perfect choice. The staff was wonderful, the food delicious (my teenager is still raving about it and we ate all of our meals here) and the room was comfortable, relaxing and not overdone. The beach itself is so stunning that pictures can hardly do it justice. I utilized the car service and tour group recommended by the hotel and I was extremely happy on both fronts. Simply put, this hotel and the staff were absolutely amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

so out of the way, off the beaten path, yet the service and food were fantastik. i went there to decompress from my 6 day work week in busy soho manhatten. i understand the service industry well. these people understand it to a tee.
just the 3 days there were enough to make me feel mentally and physically great for weeks to come. i would highly recommend it.

Upon our arrival at 8pm, the chef at the restaurant, led us to our room. Simply done, but beautiful and comfortable. Seems like the entire staff is good at juggling multiple roles. You can ask anyone for ANYTHING and either they themselves will do it or they will find someone to do it for you! We also had an 18 month old in tow who was entertained by the staff. They love children here! We mostly had lunch at the Ocho restaurant and during our 10 day stay did not have one bad dish. Order the Yucatan Special of the Day. Favorites include: ceviche, fish tacos, and arracherra. I think the food here rivals, and possibly is better than any upscale Mexican restaurant in New York (and we eat out a lot!) And what a location! The beach has powdery sand, turquoise warm sea, and comfortable lounge chairs with or without umbrella. You can even snorkel at this beach and see a variety of Caribbean sea life. Service here is attentive without being intrusive. I highly recommend the beach front rooms which offer a cool breeze to sleep in at night and a gorgeous view in which to wake up. They also offer spa services, yoga and free wi-fi. For some culture, you aren't far from the ruins (Tulum and Coba), cenotes, colonial Valladolid. We enjoyed ourselves so much here, we will definitely return and stay at Ocho Tulum! Thanks to the amazing staff for a much needed relaxing vacation!

My wife and I just got back from a week long honeymoon at Ocho, and we were extremely pleased. Ocho and Tulum in general are a whole different world from the hustle and bustle that you'd find in Cancun. For our honeymoon, we wanted to avoid any kind of all-inclusive, big chain hotel, and Ocho was the perfect spot.

The room was amazing. We had a beachfront cabana. The sea breeze coming through the windows was amazing every day and provided enough cooling - natural A/C. A beautiful king size bed with a mosquito net over it (not that we needed it - but it gave nice ambiance), a spacious double shower and double sink, and a very nice porch with a hammock for swaying in the breeze.

The beach is amazing. The Caribbean is gorgeous. Though, at times the waves were pretty rough (for us anyway). Our day consisted of getting up strolling over to the restaurant for a free continental breakfast (fresh local fruit and breads) and then heading out to the beautiful beach to relax and sip on pina coladas, mojitos, and whatever happened to be the drink of the day.

Food at the restaurant is excellent. Definitely try the fish tacos and the ceviche! The servers were also great. Thanks, Nereo, Chencho, Fabiola, and everyone else!

The best thing about Ocho was the laid back eco-friendly feel of the place. They make their own power there, use a mixture of saltwater for showers (you'll get used to it) as well as refillable shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion containers.

Ocho also provides a few events that you should definitely take advantage of. Happy hour on Sunday gives you 2 X 1 margaritas, pina coladas, and other beverages. They have a great brunch on Sunday and lots of vegetarian options. Especially, don't miss out on the Friday Card Readings by Crystal. She is so wonderful and you leave Tulum with peace, energy, and lots of insight.

The yoga classes and yoga studio were great. We attended several...be advised that there is a charge though the website doesn't mention it.

Stay at Ocho - it's an amazing place.

We loved our stay at Ocho. I guess July is technically "off-season" for Tulum, but for us it was perfect. The quieter beach meant that although we had reserved a partial ocean view cabana, we were upgraded upon arrival to the wonderful beach front cabanas. Our room was spotless, spacious, airy and very rustically romantic (love the double shower)! All the staff were so friendly, good-humoured and helpful. The beach was one of the most beautiful I have been on and so clean (even the seasweed that occassionally gets washed up is buried)! The location of Ocho was perfect for us... at the quieter end of the beach, but walking distance to a range of other bars / restaurants. On the weekend a local DJ played music on the beach which was evidentally popular for local residents... we really enjoyed this... being surrounded by locals rather than a load of other tourists! We did hire bicycles one day and that adventure didn't quite go as planned as the bikes slowly fell apart on our journey (we saw that they weren't in the best shape when we ventured out). We had to leave them at another hotel and get a taxi back to our cabana... Ocho staff were very apologetic, didn't charge us and well... it gave us a funny story to tell our friends! I am reluctant to say what a wonderful place this is because selfishly I want to keep it quiet and just as is, so on future visits it is how I remember... but to be fair, if you want relaxation, chilled / fun vibe, good food, great cocktails, white sandy beach, turquoise waters, coconut trees etc etc... go to Ocho.
