We just returned from Tulum, and it was an incredible vacation. Coqui Coqui is a breathtaking property, and should absolutely be visited if you are looking for an aesthetically pleasing and relaxed atmosphere. (**Avoid Tulum, completely, if you are in the mood for late nights, loud bars, spring breakers and resort-style service and accommodations! I can't stress this enough!!**) The architecture is beautiful and the rooms are very tastefully decorated in simple palettes and natural textures. While the electricity situation could be a challenge for some, the dim lighting sets a romantic tone for evening and, while it was a slight inconvenience not to have outlets in the room, Coni and the girls were efficient with charging cameras etc during the day. I would suggest bringing a small flashlight if you want to read at night.
The stretch of beach is one of the best in Tulum. The sand is amazing and the water is the perfect temperature. I live on an island with very beautiful beaches, and even I was impressed with the solitude and openness of this particular stretch. I was happy that we didn't stay on the Zama's/MayaTUlum end of the beach. Believe me, both venues have tons of great stuff to offer, but the tides were a bit smelly and beach a little dirty toward that end.
Breakfast at Coqui Coqui was nice. Don't expect much - it's simple with yogurt, granola and fresh fruit - but the coffee is strong and the granola is really really tasty. I got a bunch of great treatments at the spa. The young girl who does the massages and wraps is fantastic. She does a wonderful job.
Coqui Coqui isn't cheap, but we realized that not much is in Tulum. I definitely think that it's worth the extra cash. We stayed at another hotel for a few nights and wished that we had just stayed at Coqui Coqui. Coqui Coqui has a personality and and a wonderful presence. It's clean, the staff is cheerful and sweet (and gorgeous!), the beach is stunning and the location is great. All in all, it was a wonderful hotel and we will definitely be back.

We stayed at Coqui Coqui between 18th and 21st Feb.

Pros

The lobby and room were beautiful. The interior design/decoration gave a feel of serenity and relaxation.
The very long bath tub made for a very relaxing time. My husband is 6"2 and felt for the first time that the bath tub was made for him!
The beach is beautiful too and clean, which is not always the case in Mexico!
No TV!

Cons

However, the room we were in had no light above the bed and no bedside table and lamps making it impossible to read after 6pm when the sun was down.
There was no powerpoint in the room either. I had to give my camera battery to Coni for her to plug in the only power supply in the hotel. When I got it back the 4hours later, the battery wasn't charged at all as the power was insufficient. I ended up getting it charged at the hotel next door.
There is no safe in the room.
The shampoo and other amenities in the bathroom were never replaced/refilled during our 3 night stay.
The water is not potable but our jug wasn't refilled during our stay.
At breakfast, we had to wait for every order and the service wasn't up to scratch (I ordered toast one morning, was given the toast but had to wait 15min for the butter and jam as the waitress got distracted by another order!).
The hotel only serves breakfast, for any other meal or drinks you have to go next door.

We were charged the wrong rate and I only noticed once we were on our way. When I contacted Coni, she confirmed the mistake and offered a discount voucher. We live in Australia! I'm still waiting for her to give us our money back.

We did enjoy our stay as it was really romantic (we celebrated our anniversary in a very nice restaurant in Tulum) but in the end, we fell that maybe we should have stayed in the cheaper hotel Parayso.
Sylvia and Coni were lovely but at the price they are charging they need to improve the service and the facilities.
This is a real pity as the hotel as obvious charm and so much going for it.

“way over priced for what you get...and, poor ventilation”

Coqui Coqui Spa

We were excited to stay at Coqui Coqui because it looked small, beautiful and to be a special spot in Tulum. Understanding that there are always a few problems in Tulum, what we encountered at the hotel with the higest price in Tulum was astounding.

The single largest complaint I have is that the rooms have ubelievably poor ventilation. The windows look attractive and may be designed for hurricanes, but they barely open (most of the windows rise up about 8 inches from the bottom pane only). Many of the other hotels in Tulum have windows that you are able to open wide for ventilation. So, the rooms become stiffiling when it's 80+ degrees outside. And, to top it off, our overhead fan did not work for 2 days...It happened to rain one afternoon, too. And, the water went everywhere in the room! The windows leaked terribly!

Also, for the money, the beach chairs should be comfortable. Like the employees & exterior of the hotel, they look beautiful & chic but, fish net on a chair doesn't make for the most comfortable chair for a day on the beach. I was actually envious of the cheaper hotels that had comfortable lounge chairs.

Finally, the rooms are simple & lovely, but it is odd that they don't have enclosed toilet areas. Ours had a wool curtain. Strange. This coupled with no safe for valuables were two huge worrisome aspects. Having to plan a trip to the toilet around your mate's schedule and having nowhere to place valuables were both things one should not have to worry about when staying at the beach, and especially at a hotel w/this price tag.

In the end, the lack of room ventilation is the single worst issue for this hotel. The other sweeter things about the hotel just don't make up for not sleeping well due to the lack of sea breeze that one would have if only the windows opened completely.

This being our 6th trip to the Tulum area we were very excited to try Coqui Coqui. As this was a place we had often walked past and admired for it georgous facade. Unfortunately upon arriving we were faced with the fact that it is truly a facade. The rooms and lobby are beautifully decorated but the physical beauty did not make up for the lack of running water or attention to guests. Being that we have visited Tulum so many times we don't expcet to always have HOT water but NO water not in the toilet or shower? Which upon check in we DID NOT HAVE!
At $300/night, this is the most expensive place we have stayed. We expect that the basics are taken care of. as they have been at less costly hotels, and that the higher price tag was for addtional amenites. This does not hold true at Coqui Coqui.
Even though we did not have running water upon our check in we were offered nothing but a chance to shower in the SPA when the client getting a massage was done! Sylvia, was appologetic and wonderful but she had little control over the situation and did the best she could. Management didn't seem to care, they already had our 50% deposit and made no attempt to find us or find out if the issue was resolved.
On the SECOND DAY of having NO WATER in our room and NO WATER in our friends room as well ....and us, the paying guests, having to again make someone aware of the situation we realized that the hospitality we had grown to love in Tulum had disappeard from Coqui Coqui. *At this point we were looking for alternative accomodations*
On the THIRD DAY of having no water we had enough and sought out managment only to be made to wait while they finished their breakfast. At that point as frustrated as we were, we let management know we were leaving (luckily we had found other accomdations). We made them aware of why we were leaving (as if not having a shower in 2 days wasn't an obvious reason) all that was offered was a "sorry".
Not until thirty minues later, when our bags were packed and we were actually leaving, did anyone attempt to make any ammends. At that point the "free massages/discount" offered was not going to cut it!
It is very sad that a beautiful setting is so under serviced as to go to waste. This is due to a complete lacking on management's part to pay attention to the guest and their baisic needs.
People that travel to Tulum obviously don't expect butlered service or their every demand met but if you make the mistake of staying at Coqui Coqui you should be aware that even your most basic needs may not be looked after.
We can recommend Ochos and Zulum -try there and avoid the potential for problems!

“Extraordinary Experience”

Coqui Coqui Spa

Coqui Coqui in Tulum is one of the most extraordinary experiences we have ever had. Every single detail is appropriate and makes you feel at home. in a beautiful, charming home! Coqui Coqui Spa/Residences is run by a delicious argentinian family who manages and takes care for every single guest.
We wanted to know something more about Coqui Coqui, so we decided to visit the Perfumery and the beautiful Spa they have in Vallladolid, a colonial city one hour away from Tulum.
The elegance and the glamourous touch of the creator gives a unique accent to this enchanting place. Coqui Coqui concept is something to be visited absolutely. Not only for the beautiful places where they are (Yucatan is a wonderful region) but mostly for the way they run the properties and the products they create.
A special feature for the creation of the perfumes.. it is a charming alchemy.

Wonderfult job Coqui Coqui.
