“A honeymoon to dream of...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

First off, on be-half of my wife and myself I would like to extend the most gracious gratitude to the folks at Cabanas Tulum. From the folks at the lobby, to those in the kitchen, at the bar, the beach combers, the lovely staff that made our rooms so comfortable and clean everyday and the wonderful managers, thank you so much for a honeymoon that went far beyond our greatest expectations. I could write more, but I will keep it short. The staff was always working hard with a smile on their face.

Being that it was our honeymoon we stayed in one of the nicest rooms in the Cabanas. Second floor, king size bed, beautiful shower/tub, wonderful balcony looking to the Caribbean and a private sun deck. Chique, clean and comfortable.

Wonderful breakfast, fresh prepared, tasty and a variety of choices. EL Bistro chef(s) have come up with a wonderful menu that showcased fresh seafood prepared in a fusion of Mexico and Caribbean. Simple, but elegant.

We would not trade this honeymoon we had at Cabanas for anything.

Gracias a todos ustedes!!

Love Always

We spent an anniversary weekend in one of the newly remodeled cabanas and it was fabulous. We stayed in an upper level room, so we had a rooftop terrace with a sunbed, too. The patio/balcony had a couple of chairs and a built in sofa. Great place to chill.

Ziggy Beach was beautiful as ever. Love the beds and the smooth white sand beach.

The El Bistro Restaurant surprised us with a lovely setting on the beach for our dinner: Heart drawn around our table and the table was decorated with a palm frond and rose petals. So romantic. Dinner was great, too.

We definitely recommend staying here. We'll be back, too!

Room Tip: Cabana #7 had a great view and although close to the restaurant/bar was quiet.

Perfect position on the beach! The restaurant - Breakfast is included and you have a choice of one hot plate, one hot drink and one cold drink. Lunch there is a wide range of plates to choose from, a little costly but good value. We had some doubts where to book in Tulum as there were mixed reviews about all resorts on here and tripadvisor. We finally picked here. Excellent welcome, nice enough apartments, good sun loungers and mattresses with cushions. The staff where helpful and helped us arrange private transport up to Puerto Jaurez. The room - We ended up with one of the older rooms (They have and are building new ones). Basic accomodation and a little overpriced for what it is even if they are well enough equipped and there are all the other facilities. Could have done with a TV, after the sun goes down there is not much else to do. Especially since everything in Mexico closes at 11pm. Be prepared to pay 60/70 pesos each way for the taxi into town.

The restaurant - From Dinner the restaurant becomes an overpriced french noveau cusine bistro. Tiny portions and expensive. The service is slow. Allow 1hr for breakfast. 10 mins for the menu. Another 15mins to order. Another 15mins for drinks and 10 minutes more for the food. Lunch was much the same. The 2for1 offer on all drinks isn't on everything as we were informed and the menu isnt divided as such. Check before you order. Wifi isn't the best, it tends to cut out and you have to keep relogging in.

Really enjoyed our stay in cabanas.Rooms were very clean and newly decorated, they also had air conditioning which was a real plus!! Staff were also very friendly and very informative on the local attractions. I would love to have stayed longer.

I recently went on my honeymoon to Tulum, and my husband & I were torn between a gluttonous all-inclusive resort and a private cabana - so we decided to split it 50/50. We stayed here at Cabanas Tulum for our second half, and were so happy we did!

We were maybe 10 yards from the water, and it was everything we had hoped for - quiet, private and more secluded. Everyone that works there is so nice and helpful!!

There are 8 beach front cabanas and maybe about the same amount set back. I think it's definitely worth the extra money for beach front!! And we were pleasantly surprised by the included breakfast at el Bistro next door. They take a while, but they have quite a large menu.

Location-wise, it's about 60% of the way down the road with all of the cabanas. It's about a 70 peso taxi ride, and they run up & down the road all the time so it's really easy to catch one anytime.

The AC kicks in from 7p - 7a. We got a key to a safe that's in our room - although I never felt for one moment that any of our things were in danger. The only thing that was a little difficult was that there's no fridge in the rooms or communal - so if you came home with beers or waters they would get warm very fast. We ended up buying a bag of ice every day in town and putting it in the shower with our beers & waters in the bag. Not a huge deal, but maybe they can sell or provide ice there for convenience.

All in all, it was awesome and we would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: I think if you book 3 months or more in advance, you get something like a 20% discount or something...

When my boyfriend and I decided to plan our trip this summer, we knew we wanted to go to Tulum. Due to the fact that we were traveling in August, I thought it might be best to find a hotel with A/C. I found cabanas tulum using that criteria and really liked all the pictures and the reviews so I booked without hesitation and I am so happy that I did. We stayed in a beachfront room and it was SO worth the extra cost. We have never stayed right on the beach and it felt like such a luxury to wake up and step right out onto the sand. The beach was spectacular and seeing that just feet from the room was amazing. The room itself was basic but it is exactly what I was expecting. The a/c helped a little but the amazing wind coming off the beach and fan made for a very comfortable nights sleep. I'm not sure the a/c was even needed.
The food at the hotel was also great. The breakfasts were so flavorful and fresh and we really enjoyed having breakfast with a fantastic view of the beach. We also had lunch and dinner at the restaurant and were happy with everything we had. The service was wonderful. Everyone was so attentive and even helped us with our spanish a bit when we were ordering. The prices were so affordable, especially with the 2 for 1 drink specials they have everyday.
The beach was beautiful. We loved strolling along the beach and exploring the area. There are so many places to eat up and down the beach and I wish we had had more time to try more places.
Emer at the front desk was so helpful in getting us set up with day trips. She recommended we go with Antonio who took us on an unforgettable kayaking trip in Sian Ka'an and snorkeling in a cenote. The trip was breathtaking and so much fun. Anyone looking to explore the area in Tulum should contact Antonio and arrange a trip with him. He will take you anywhere you want to go and put together a truly customized, informational, and special trip.
All in all, our vacation was fantastic. We will never forget what an amazing time we had at Cabanas Tulum. The nights in the hammock on the front porch and days right on the beach were exactly what we were looking for. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing, unforgettable and truly special vacation.
