We recently stayed at Posada Luna del Sur for 2 nights.
The hotel has recently changed management and the new people running the show were obviously working very hard to improve the hotel further (a roof dining area for breakfast) and help the guests out. We found them very helpful, particularly when we locked the keys in the car. The hotel owner drove to a locksmiths for us and arranged for him to come by that afternoon to unlock the car. He even haggled the locksmith down for us.
Being a fairly self sufficient couple, we liked this place. It was nice to have a kitchenette so that we could have cereal for breakfast - others might prefer to have breakfast options but there are none at the hotel.
The rooms were also nice - charming with a seated sort of lounge area separate to the bed. They are private and you are not looking onto any other buildings, which is always nice.
As a result, the hotel deserves 4 stars in our review as great value for money and a charming place to visit - however be aware that the town of Tulum is not near the beach (about 3 kms) and that therefore this place is not near the beach.
It is perfect for couples traveling in the area looking for a good value independent place to stay that does not have to be on the beach or provide amenities on its own.
