We recently stayed at Posada Luna del Sur for 2 nights.

The hotel has recently changed management and the new people running the show were obviously working very hard to improve the hotel further (a roof dining area for breakfast) and help the guests out. We found them very helpful, particularly when we locked the keys in the car. The hotel owner drove to a locksmiths for us and arranged for him to come by that afternoon to unlock the car. He even haggled the locksmith down for us.

Being a fairly self sufficient couple, we liked this place. It was nice to have a kitchenette so that we could have cereal for breakfast - others might prefer to have breakfast options but there are none at the hotel.

The rooms were also nice - charming with a seated sort of lounge area separate to the bed. They are private and you are not looking onto any other buildings, which is always nice.

As a result, the hotel deserves 4 stars in our review as great value for money and a charming place to visit - however be aware that the town of Tulum is not near the beach (about 3 kms) and that therefore this place is not near the beach.

It is perfect for couples traveling in the area looking for a good value independent place to stay that does not have to be on the beach or provide amenities on its own.

We stayed at the Posada La Luna del Sur and had a priceless experience. The hotel was secure, the room was clean and the staff was exceptional. Sarah and Marty were very welcoming, personally introduced us to our room and explained all the local restaurants and attractions. We ended up at a Salsa club on the beach later that week, where my wife ended up singing with the live salsa band. The location of this hotel is perfect and offers a lot of great local authentic mexican food at decent prices. Everyone in the town was very nice and friendly, never felt uncomfortable at any moment in the town. They just built a palapa on the 3rd floor of the hotel where they will be hosting breakfast during the peak season. All in all, two thumbs up to the Posada Luna del Sur.

When we booked our reservation, after reading all of the wonderful reviews, we were looking forward to meeting Jack and Janet. Upon our arrival, we were met by Sarah and her father, who explained that they had just become the new owners. You won't be disappointed. She could not have been more accomodating. Upon her recommendation, we ate breakfast at Zamas, and dinner at La Zebra, both of which were excellent. We toured the nearby ruins of Tulum and Coba. We had a perfect stay and wish Sarah and family the best of luck with their new adventure.

There is no rational reason to stay anywhere else unless you just HAVE to hear the waves for a night or two!

We traveled for two weeks from Cancun to the Belize border, staying at five different properties over the 14 nights. I booked four nights in Tulum; two at Posada Luna del Sur, and two at Los Lirios. Both were based on tripadvisor information I researched before booking. As we are looking for a second home, we wanted community exposure from both the beach and town perspectives of Tulum. The beach was second to none in its beauty and low population density. Because of the high humidity and salty tradewinds, our clothing, books, cash, etc. quickly took on the sticky, salty feeling. Mind you, we are ocean lover water sign folks. So, we got our beach fix (which we got just as easily the other two days at the Evans' lovely abode). There was nothing we disliked about our stay. From the moment we pulled in, rang the bell, were greeted by Graham, to meeting Sarah and Marty, and the incredible towel art of Jesus, our stay was just perfect. We were so fortunate to be there when the penthouse palapa was started. What an experience to hear the story of how they pulled these massive wood supports up from the street by ropes. We also got to watch the rapid progress. The very best part though, is that we have a perfect excuse to return! We just HAVE to see that completed structure! We have traveled the world and stayed in everything from eco domes with no electricity to five star all inclusives, and have yet to encounter the friendliness and graciousness of the Evans family. Their intent is to connect with people, not only as fellow adventurers but also as fellow humans. There is no reason to stay anywhere else. If you, like us, just HAVE to hear the waves lull you to sleep at night, do it for a night but then quickly return to Posada Luna del Sur. Make no mistake, you will be delighted you did.

My husband and I stayed at Posada June 5th thru the 7th. We wanted an in town experience before staying on the beach the remainder of our trip. If you are looking for a very neat, cute, quiet, comfy place to stay within walking distance to shopping and eating, this is it!!! Sarah met us at the gate, took us to our room and was so helpful in showing us the best places to eat and helping us book a tour with Edventure Tours. She went above and beyond to help us with exactly what we wanted! We met her father, Graham, also who was more than happy to visit with us and show us some fun changes they are doing with the hotel. Sarah's boyfriend and brother were coming also to join them in running Posada. If you were like me, part of booking this hotel was based on the reviews of how great Janet & Jack were, but don't let that worry you one bit! Sarah and family are going to continue the tradition of how wonderful this place is with their own added touches! And did you notice the price?????? We loved everything about it and would do it all over again!
