“Posada Luna del Sur a great find in Tulum Pueblo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Recently returned from 2 nights in Cancun, 1 in Chichen Itza and 3 in Tulum. Would highly recommend Posada Luna del Sur in Tulum Pueblo. The owner, Tom, lives onsite and is always ready to lend a hand with beach supplies, umbrellas, coolers, tour advice, restaurant advice, etc. Breakfast was delicious (and complimentary) every morning and featured a different local specialty each day, along with the regular menu which had plenty of variety, from omelets to fruit plates. (We always made it a point to be on time for the chef's breakfast.) The service was great and Tom helped cook and serve meals.

Very good and attentive cleaning and bed service in our rooms as well. Quiet and well air conditioned, and parking onsite. Appreciated the local flavor in Tulum Pueblo and could still drive to the beach in a few minutes. Less touristy and more authentic, and half the price (or less) of a beach club. Two thumbs up!

Room Tip: Stayed in the back, not overlooking the street. Very quiet.

There are various elements which combine to make this an excellent choice.

Tom gives freely of his time to ensure the guests get the most from their visit to Tulum. There is no reluctance to help!

The staff are all delightful and welcoming. The breakfasts are superb; the rooms are spotless and the location is perfect to walk to all the attractions in town.

It was my first time in Tulum. I stayed at this small hotel in tulum pueblo and absolutely loved the stay. It is not a fancy hotel but a very charming with lots of personality. My favourite was the delicious complimentary breakfast every morning, I ordered the especial every morning and had a such a great start to the day. Tom, the hotel owner is more than helpful. He took some time out to tell us things we should do and restaurants we should go to. We followed every single of his recommendations and were not at all dissapointed but were extremely grateful for providing such great tips. I had such a great time in tulum because of all the things he suggested. He had this little map with all his recommendations listed on it which he provided to all the guests, that came in very handy and we used it a lot. He was also nice enough to lend his snorkel fins for us to do some snorkeling! This hotel is in the town, far from beach. We had rented a car so it wasn't a problem at all to back and forth from town to beach. Overall it was a pleasure staying there, and I would stay there again while in Tulum.

Posada Luna del Sur was a great place to stay in the town of Tulum. It is located a half block from the main street where you will find wonderful restaurants. And don't worry about which restaurant is good as Tom, the owner, provides you with a map which highlights his favorite restaurants. Tom also provides you with great tips on what to do and the best times to do it. He suggested a little beach for great snorkelling, I felt like I was in a salt water aquarium! Thanks for helping us have a great holiday!

I do not know how to review this hotel. We hated it when we arrived but learned to love it.The hotel is set near the edge of town close to the busy highway and miles from the beach. We nearly got back on the plane after seeing where we were. The security guard showed us to our room as there is no reception. Our room was clean and overlooked the street and has a tiny balcony. There is a small kitchen area, bathroom and comfortable bedroom. Gloom set in.The much vaunted breakfast proved to be a disaster and we are now ready to pack our bags and leave. This is when we met Tom who holds court at breakfast every morning. He told us all the best places to eat, visit etc. and Tulum and the hotel began to grow on us. There are some great restaurants and plenty to do from here. Breakfast continued to decline but I would visit here again and would recommend it.

The reviews and awards Posada Luna del Sur have gotten are WELL deserved! Tom's attention to detail is what makes this place stand out as a highlight on our recent trip to Mexico. Don't worry about restaurants, beach clubs, shopping, or day tours, laundry etc etc etc...Tom has all the information that you need to make this a once in a lifetime experience.

Make sure you ask about the day excursions Tom can help arrange with Antonio....we have done dozens of these day trips over the past 13 years and NONE can even come close to what we experienced in the Cenotes and reef snorkeling trip hosted by Antonio....

Excellent breakfast (Brenda is a beautiful person), clean establishment, safe area, off the main strip but still walking distance to restaurants and shopping and a 50-70 pesos ride to the beach!

Thanks again Tom, it was an experience rather than a trip!
