Our heartfelt thanks for Enrico (Owner of Uolis Nah), and his property managers, Santos and Mirna for the GREAT time we had in Tulum, Mexico in Feb. 2012. We were fortunate enough to find this property online and find availability for 5 whole weeks. In that entire time, we only had 1.5 days of rain!!! Uolis Nah is a very, very comfortable group of six studio apts. (3 upper level, 3 lower level) conveniently located a block west of the main coast highway, on the road to Coba. It is an oasis of green...lots of trees, plants, birds and butterflies...a relaxed and slightly bohemian atmosphere, in that there are hammocks and hanging chairs, mobiles made of shells and driftwood, a rustic wooden spiral stairway up to the second floor and a cozy intimate feel. New neighbours came and went and never did we find any issues with late-night noise. We loved that we felt 'off the beaten path', even though we were actually conveniently located to everything that we needed...there are two large grocery stores within walking distance, bikes are part of the 'deal' and we used them extensively to ride to the beaches and to the downtown Tulum shops and restaurants. With the coast hwy. so close, using the Collectivo vans to get to snorkelling beaches in Akumal, shopping in Playa del Carmen, etc. was a breeze. The Collectivo vans are regular, inexpensive, fast and safe. The daily al fresco breakfast (toast, butter, jam, honey, coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice) was perfect for us...enough to get us going, but not so much that we needed a nap! There are lots of bikes available for use....and we found we did not need or want a rental car. The Grand Cenote is further along the road to Coba from Uolis Nah, and easily reachable by bicycle. The pathway to the beaches is convenient....it is concrete, wide and keeps bikes safely off the busy roadway. It is approx. 3 km. from Uolis Nah to La Vita e Bella, the beach club associated with Uolis Nah. There are plenty of lounge chairs available to use, friendly wait-staff (Thanks Heydar and Rigo!), beautiful sand beach, turquoise water, nice restaurant and kite-surfers to watch. Our second floor studio apt. (#5) had everything we hoped for...kitchen with fridge, stove, sink, pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, table and chairs. The shower was huge and beautifully tiled with sun, moon and stars! The bed was comfy and situated beside the french doors that lead out to a private balcony with hammock...a perfect place to watch birds, count geckoes and read. The apt. floors are tiled, the ceiling vaulted with roughly-hewn logs, and the whole place felt airy and spacious. Two wall-mounted fans kept us comfortably cool day and night. The dining area has a nice daybed...this could be used for a third person or as we did, as a sofa. Santos and Mirna took care of us beautifully....helped with our bags, carried our large water containers up the stairs for us, cleaned our apt. daily, had breakfast waiting for us every morning, and met every request with a smile. Enrico was very often at the property and was a friendly, helpful young man who actually built Uolis Nah himself. Enrico's English is excellent and his knowledge of the area is extensive. The area behind Uolis Nah is slowly being developed and while we were there, house construction was ongoing....Enrico told us that when he built this hotel, the surrounding area was entirely jungle. Despite these changes, Uolis Nah will continue to be a lovely oasis and exceeded all of our expectations. The 5 weeks flew past and we miss our 'Treehouse' a lot!
We loved #5 - second floor!
