“Lovely experience at La Zebra”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in a delightful second floor apartment at La Zebra. From the shaded porch we enjoyed a fabulous view of the ocean and the sound of the waves. The bedroom, facing the ocean, had a constant breeze which made the fan unnecessary, though the mosquito netting was welcome one night. The bathroom was spacious and attractive. The other L shaped room contained a smallish double bed, a kitchen with small refrig, table and chairs, and a sitting area for 2. A nice touch was the basket of orange juice and coffee delivered each morning. Very nice restaurant. Sunday night Salsa lessons, music and dancing attracted a nearby vacationers. The staff was efficient, friendly and helpful, especially Lina.

Room Tip: There was just one apartment as described. The other accommodations were smaller cabanas on the bea...

We recently stayed at Le Zebra for our Honeymoon, and had a wonderful time. We loved staying in Cabana 4, so close to the beach. The staff was friendly, and helpful. Emails sent with questions before arriving were responded to quickly and completely. Rooms were always clean, and we felt safe. They provided a safe, mosquito netting, and fan. We loved hearing the waves falling asleep! They arranged a wonderful kayak trip for us as well. Overall we had a great time in Tulum, and would likely go back.

Spent a week in Tulum for a wedding, moving between two beach cabana hotels and seeing lots of others up and down the beach as we caught up with other friends attending the wedding. Based on this, I think La Zebra is the best of the cheaper places - we had everything we needed (safe in room, mosquito nets, hot water) and the staff were really friendly and helpful, especially Miriam, Hernan, Rafael and Jose. After a few nights in cabanas 3 and 9, we treated ourselves to an upgrade to the Royal Suite for our last night - spectacular! Only let down by cheap plastic toilet seats, but we could live with that :-). The food and drinks at La Zebra are also delicious, and good value by Tulum beach standards. I would recommend La Zebra to anyone coming to Tulum - I hope to return this time next year.

Room Tip: Cabana 3 is one of the closest to the beach and has a direct view from bed to sea, but is small Cab...

First, I would like to say that I'm not a light sleeper. We paid $275 for a DARK bungalow over the main part of the hotel. I still don't know what the horrible whirling noise was. It is still going on. The are no lights on the dark colored stairs at night. Very dangerous. My bath towel had make-up on it from one or more of the previous occupants. The bathroom is so dark, I have no idea on how they applied make-up. The location is jammed between other properties. The beach is okay. I expected more. I have lived in Hawaii and visited many Caribbean islands and everyone says Tulum is beautiful. I guess it depends on what you are comparing. The rest of my trip has been great just would skip Tulum and especially this dump. Sorry, if there are mistakes, this bungalow has no lighting and I'm exhausted from no sleep.

We are so sorry about your negative experience with us, and are very concerned about the noise you mention, since it has not been an issue before with previous guests. We will like to further investigate this case and will be in contacting you to resolve this situation. Thank you for your comments, we will look into the details you mention.

I can't find one bad thing to say about this place other than I couldn't stay longer. (My fault, not theirs) Many of the stand alone rooms are right on the beach. With a cool ocean breeze it never felt hot even though we stayed in September. The beach at La Zebra is absolutely beautiful and they manicure it everyday while I was there. The food and drinks and service was all top shelf. As I said, not one thing I could improve on.

Room Tip: The two room suite is the one to stay in. Obviously more money but worth it.

There are many resorts in Tulum beach but La Zebra is something different, something special. From the first moment you get into the resort you are treated like a true pampered guest. Rooms are basic but really comfortable with safety deposit box, mosquito net and complimentary Tequila (loved it). Food is really good and the Mojito is divine. Service is at its best with smiling waiters will do almost anything to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. And well, of course, the beach... So, is it that perfect? well, there are some minor annoying things. For example, since it's an Eco resort, the water aren't regular sweet water, but rather purified. It means you can't drink tap ot shower water and must use bottled water. Nevertheless this is one of the best resorts I've ever been to. It's not the cheap but certainly the best in Tulum beach.

Room Tip: Beach front cabanas are more expensive than the others, but the resort is not that big. You can sett...
