We traveled to Tulum without plans of where to stay, but we were told by friends that the Diamante K had been a great stay for them the summer before last. We drove to the hotel and asked about availability, and thankfully, they had several rooms open although it was already around 5pm when we arrived. I traveled with my boyfriend and two friends, and we shared a beach front cabana with two queen beds that were suspended from the ceiling and surrounded by mosquito nets. We had a huge open window that looked out to the ocean, and we had a hammack and some beach chairs right outside of our cabana for our own use. Tulum is the most beautiful place I have ever stayed, and I am so pleased that we chose to stay in a beach cabana. This room only cost about 400 or 500 pesos total, and although it lacked AC, it was never so hot that the room was unbearable. The light also does go off at a certain time at night...though I don't remember when...but the path to the communal bathroom, etc. are lit with tiki torches. There is a place to swim nearby and the hotel has a restaurant. We did not eat there, but we had some drinks and they were a little expensive for Mexico...about 35 pesos a beer...but it was not out of control for a place right on such a tranquil beach. The only problem that we had during our stay was that the hub caps to our rental car were stolen while our car was parked where the Diamante K parking is. Though this is unusual for Tulum and not necessarily the hotel's fault, it was a little scary to know that people had time to steal our hub caps and the hub caps of several other cars without being detected. The reception is right by the street, and there was often not a person even at the desk. This being said, I will stay there again but I do not plan to bring a rental car. One last downfall is that the shower in the communal bathrooms is literally so communal that there is no door and it is a big room with two shower heads. If you are one to like to shower without a bathing suit and the worry that someone may walk by (or even come in) then I suggest a room with a private bath or another hotel.
