Amazing! It is an eco-chic gem. Powered by wind and solar and a great energy and wonderful owners. We all know it has been written up in almost every travel magazine and fashion magazine out there and raved about all over the place. The praise is well deserved. It really is the only place to stay and eat in Tulum. I have been there 4 times now and there isn't anywhere that I don't travel in the world and mention that I was in Tulum and don't hear people raving and reminiscing about Zamas. It is a Tulum icon. I am amazed all the time at how much this place has become a part of people's lives. The food, the music, the staff, the beach, the bungalows, the lovely owners, the energy ... you won't find anything close to this anywhere else in the Yucatan. If you miss Zamas, people will wonder if you did indeed visit Tulum. There is a shipwreck right off the rocks that you can snorkel to in crystal blue water, fantastic live music in the evenings from some of the best world musicians in the area that you can dance to or just relax and enjoy, delicious, delicious food and wood oven pizzas, wonderful margaritas (watch yourself they are strong), the restaurant is under a giant palapa on the beach with colorful wooden chairs (where they photograhphed Sports Illustrated swimsuit models) and you eat with your feet in the sand with a perfect tropical breeze brushing over you, if you are there at the right time of year you can see giant, ancient tortoises coming up on the beach to lay their eggs, the bungalows are clean and comfortable, the chef is NYC trained and combines perfect skill with excellent local flare, the owners are wonderful and warm and treat the employees and the local environment with respect and care (not true of many owners of other hotels in the area), the beach is clean and beautiful, there are fantastic yoga classes 5 mins down the beach at Maya Tulum, there is an exceptional dive shop on the Zamas premises that can set you up with diving and snorkeling adventures, the manager, Mara, is just an absolute delight and will do all she can to make your stay wonderful and just want you need it to be - ask her to set you up a massage with Leo - best massage EVER! Go to Zamas and enjoy yourself. Caveat: If air conditioning and chlorinated pools are your thing and wrist bands and all you can eat buffets than this is not the place - stay in Cancun (nothing wrong with that), but, if you want to relax and enjoy yourself in a slice of paradise where you will be looked after and meet really fascinating people from all over the world and meet new adventures each day and dance with a margarita under the stars with a bunch of new friends that are experiencing the joy of life and making memories and friendships that will last a lifetime ... then go to Zamas and you will go back again and again.
