“Felt like home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

Recently returned from a trip to Mexico- was in Tulum for only one night, but that was enough for me to know I'd like to return again very soon!
I was so glad that I chose to stay closer to the beach, rather than town. It's a very quaint area, with lots of charm. The minute we pulled up to the "hotel," we were warmly greeted by Frank and Cheryl as if we were old friends. They offered us drinks, and were very helpful in assisting us with luggage and parking. The accommodations are rustic, and minimal, but I'd much rather that than the large resort we stayed at prior to (The Riu for a wedding.. ugh).
There was always plenty of hot water, and the bed was very comfortable (although be prepared to wake early to the sounds of birds..which I actually loved). There's no a/c, but the fan in the room was sufficient (however, I'm always cold, so if you're sensitive to heat, you may want to see if there's a room with a/c- not sure if there is). The common area outside is very inviting, and we met the other guests (two other couples.. only 4 rooms or so total, so very intimate) and once again, it had a feeling of sitting in my backyard with some pals. The location is great- close to restaurants and beach. Frank/Cheryl had amazing recommends for food (posada margharita for dinner- delicious, albiet a bit pricey; and las ranitas for breakfast- don't miss out on that! The food was good, but the views and drinks were priceless).
This lodging is not for those that want fancy digs, but rather a warm place to call "home" while traveling in Tulum. I hope to return sooner than later.

I stayed at Las Palmas Maya in April 2012. It was my first visit to Tulum, and it couldn't have been more welcoming. Las Palmas Maya was a comfortable, pleasant and quiet place to spend a week. The hosts, Cheryl and Frank, were warm, kind and helpful, always looking after their guests to make sure you're enjoying your stay.

The property is on the jungle side of the Tulum coast, further down the beach road and a close bike ride to great restaurants and the Sian Ka'an biosphere. Beach access is right across the street-couldn't be easier. Being on the jungle side of the beach road had it perks. It is quiet, and you wake up to the sounds of birds chirping, as opposed to the noise of traffic. The room was cool at night, perfect for sleeping, and the beds are comfortable and big. The showers were great, and there was always hot water. Cheryl makes a great pot of coffee every morning, free for guests. There is a kitchen and refrigerator on the property, which is really convenient for storing food and making your own meals. We saved a lot of money by having milk, juice and cereal for breakfasts.

The onsite bike rentals (free for a day if you stay three or more days!) were a great perk, as was the cooler of drinks, beer etc always kept stocked. Most importantly, Cheryl and Frank are experts at making their guests feel welcome. They genuinely enjoy getting to know their guests, and we had great conversations at the kitchen table. They were also really helpful in making restaurant recommendations, setting up day trips to the ruins and cenotes, and taking care of transportation to the airport. Their kindness and warmth makes you feel as though you are staying with family. I highly recommend Las Palmas Maya-it really does live up to all the great reviews on Trip Advisor!

We spent 4 nights at Las Palmas Maya after 2 nights at Posada Luna del Sur in Tulum pueblo. The room was very comfortable and clean, the availability of the outdoor kitchen with designated refrigerator and cabinet space and availability of a stove or grill in a lovely covered outdoor area was great. The beach is close and beautiful, and Tom the manager was very friendly and helpful.

March 21, 2012. This small 5 room hotel located across the street from the famed Tulum Beach met my criteria of caring, love and a wealth of information from the owners Cheryl and Frank. From the moment of contact by internet Cheryl will answer your query with an accurate response to all your questions.
Coming in by air hop the Air conditioned ADO bus to Tulum and then a taxi to Los Palmas Maya. On arrival the orange, bright yellow and green exterior colors of the rooms under the tropical palapa roofs give you the feel of the tropics that you came for. Winding gravel paths among the green tropical growth have recently been installed. The communal kitchen allows you to prepare your own meals cutting the cost of restaurant participation, thus saving the cash for that special restaurant meal.. We walked a short distance and ate at Las Ranitas with the dream view of the Tulum Beach.
Tom the manager keeps the rental bikes in top shape shining and cleaning them up daily so you can enjoy the off the beaten path ride discovering hidden restaurants and shops.
We met delightful people over coffee at the communal kitchen and Tom the manager was there to help us plan our daily itinerary.
If you are looking for an Air-Conditioned 5 star hotel then this is not for you. If you want to feel like you are at home then visit Cheryl and Frank at Los Palmas Maya

Room Tip: Tell Cheryl your needs and she will direct you to the proper cholce of room. I do know Cheryl and Fr...

My best friend and I came to Las Palmas Maya based on TripAdvisor reviews and it was money well spent for a 3-4 dy stay in Tulum.

The location is about 10 KM outside of Tulum center, so if you feel your cab ride is a little long and pricier than expected, it's because you're going to the less populated area by the beach. It's about 10-15 mins from the center of town and a 70 pesos ride (anything more, you're being taken for a ride,,,pun intended).

Being further from the main drag has its perks - you're greeted by the sound of the ocean and birds chirping as opposed to loud music and cars going by.

We stayed in the Crab room, which was more than enough space for two gals to spread out. The beds are amazingly comfortable and the sheets and towels smell heavenly. Mosquito nets keep most of the bugs away from you, but turn on the fan when there's electricity and you'll be an even happier camper. You get hot water with decent pressure in the shower when the generator is on, but tepid with weak pressure when it's off. However, the key here is that there's water 24/7, which is a good thing.

Electricity runs in the early-evening through the early-morning.

Tom the manager was really helpful and I recommend any future guests to definitely chat to him about anything and everything you want to know about the area. He advised us on beach access, breakfast recs (Ohm Tulum across the street a MUST DO), and also that since we were staying for 3 nights/4 days we had access to the bikes that they rent for free. Take advantage of this!

All in all a great stay in a great place and I look forward to hearing about the renovations and updates. And of course, to coming back.

My husband and I wanted a quiet place to get away from our busy life of running a business. We found Las Palmas Maya on Trip Advisor and chose it because of the amazing comments it has received. It was everything we expected. Quiet, peacefull... a place for complete relaxation. Our room was clean and had everything we needed, hot water, showers, good bed, lots of windows for a draft to cool off the room at night (no a/c on beach road in Tulum). Las Palmas had a kitchen where we enjoyed our breakfast and coffee in the AM and visited with the other guests (5 rooms in all). With its location you could make your meals at the hotel or walk to a restaurant for pizza, tacos, fish or steak. Beach access was through the OM Hotel (right across the street) and we were able to use their chairs and umbrellas. Nothing beats an ocean view with drink sevice :) AND Tom, what can I say about the Host Tom, he was so helpfull. He always had a smile on his face and always wanted to make sure you had an awesome day. Our amazing excursions were because of Tom's suggestions. Thank you Tom. We will be back next fall.

Room Tip: The rooms are great. Just remember, on beach road, there is no a/c. We slept with our windows open...

My boyfriend and I spent our spring break here, a week later and we (or at least I) still haven't adjusted back to my normal life. It was THAT wonderful. I never wanted to leave! Such a great value for an amazing hotel. The communal (outdoor) kitchen was one of our favorite aspects of las palmas maya, because it helped us to meet and make friends with all the cool people staying there the same time as we were. Coffee was made every morning for us, it was nice to gather around the table and talk to everyone about what their plans were for the day. The location could not have been better. It's seriously a few steps away from the beach! (I included a picture to show the path to the beach) it's BASICALLY beachfront- without ALL the sand! It being across the street from Om was super convenient because we were able to use their lounge chairs our whole stay (i was also really surprised with how uncrowded the beach was, there were chairs for us every morning) So we'd use the chairs at Om and just make sure to order food or a few drinks in exchange for the chairs. The service at Om was great as well. Anyways, we were able to meet Frank and Cheryl and they were wonderful! You can tell they genuinely care about their travelers. Tom, the on-site manager was an excellent host as well. He treated us to his famous "Co-Co Coladas" and we sat around the kitchen with all the other travelers talking and laughing until around midnight, he really makes you feel at home and is SUPER funny. We even went out with him one night! He had great food and activity recommendations as well.

I noticed the bugs weren't bad late at night but definitely wear bug spray during dinner time (5-7) or they'll really get you. Also be prepared to have early mornings, the birds woke us up at around 6:30 everyday, but we didn't mind a bit because we were always so excited to start our days. The electricity is only on from 5pm-5am, didn't bother me a bit. if you open your shades you'll have enough light. Our shower was great, water pressure was just fine and it was always as hot or cold as we wanted.

Ask Tom to recommend his favorite cenotes, definitely a highlight of our trip.

I could seriously go on forever about this trip... but words can't really describe.
