As you get close to the lodge you hope the driver slows down to indicate you have arrived because the facilities are so nice. Before you can even stretch you are greeted by the staff with a warm smile, cool glass of champagne, and tasty appetizers. It only gets better when you are escorted to your room; the only way to describe it is simply, “wow!” You’ll swivel from the beautiful bed to the Jacuzzi and 52” flat screen TV. It’s great to have that thought of “this is MY room”. The bathroom and shower continue this theme.
The restaurant/bar is hard to describe without photos. You can lounge on the front porch in comfy couches or sit in the swinging chairs at the bar before dinner. I recommend both. Dinner does not disappoint either. From the appetizer to main course to desert there is a wonderful blend of traditional local food and classic cuisine.
Now, it is bold to call yourself The Grand Slam Fly Fishing Lodge due to the rarity of the achievement. I only had three days of fishing on this trip and had opportunities at all the species fly anglers covet: permit, bonefish, tarpon and snook. The local guides are friendly, knowledgeable, and speak adequate amounts of English, which makes it great for novices and experts.
I will leave you with one more thing that I think you should know. The road from Tulum heading south to the lodge is pretty bumpy and slow going. Although it is rough going for a couple of hours it is definitely worth it to get to this incredible lodge that pays attention to all the little details.
