5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2010

I was in this beautiful hotel with my boyfriend. The location is excellent (right on the white sandy beach of Tulum) and close to the ruins ... The cleanliness is excellent and at the restaurant you can eat fresh fish !!
This hotel is ideal for a relaxant holiday !!!

My husband and I have just got back from a fabulous holiday in Tulum, Mexico where we stayed at Villa Las Estrellas which is situated on the beach front on the Tulum-Boca Paila Road km 8 leading out to the Biosphere reserve and Punta Allen.
The posada is run and owned by Simone (who is Italian but has been living in Mexico for the last 8 years) and his wife Thais, and they have created a very relaxed and homely atmosphere. The villa is new and has been very tastefully designed and decorated. The color theme throughout is white/beige and this gives you the feeling of open space and freshness. There are 6 suites and all are very large, airy and comfortable. All have en-suite bathroom and large terrace facing the sea with private access to the beach. The villa itself is basically on the beach and is only 25mts from the actual sea…… Each suite can accommodate up to 4 people so it was very spacious for just the 2 of us. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoons on the hammock in the peace and quiet of our own private terrace. Although we were there during the rainy season the posada was well equipped to protect the building from the rain and it was still possible to lie out on the terrace and enjoy the rain without actually getting wet!

The restaurant is small but has a great menu and a wonderful chef! Although the chef is Mexican there is a hint of Italian influence in the cuisine. The food was excellent and we ate there most days during our 2 week stay. Seafood aplenty and one of my favorite dishes was the paella. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and while we were there, many people who were just strolling by on the beach, popped in for a meal. There are only 6 tables and we would recommend that you book for evening meals over the week-ends. During our stay we noticed that Saturdays and Sundays proved very popular with both local and expat residents who enjoyed the hotel and its facilities most weekends.

We found the staff (both hotel and restaurant) very helpful and accommodating. The restaurant staff, (including the chef), also speak excellent English.

As animal lovers we also enjoyed playing on the beach with the owners 2 dogs. Swimming, snorkeling and walking along the beautiful clean beach made this a very special holiday for us. Another highlight of our stay was the privilege of witnessing turtles hatching right on the beach by the hotel restaurant and all guests and staff helping in getting the little turtles down to the sea as quickly as possible.

Simone was telling us that he has only been open since June and has plans for the near future. He hopes to open up a small boutique in the grounds of the posada near the road side and also plans to include massage facilities in his services. The garden grounds are very well cared for – lawns and tropical plants abound. All in all a lovely well cared for spot of heaven.

We will certainly return and hopefully in the not too distant future.

My husband & I have traveled to Tulum many times before but discovered this gorgeous new hotel on our most recent visit. Opened in June of this year, it's obvious that a great deal of thought has gone into every aspect of Villas Las Estrellas. It has just 6 rooms and all of those that we were shown were beautiful --- huge, comfy beds with lovely clean white linens and canopies, an in-room safe, good pressure in the shower with plenty of hot water, lots of storage to pack your things away (including the many pieces of reclaimed wood from the jungle that have been tastefully moulded into the walls to use as various hooks and hanging spots --- a very nice touch) and the most incredible view from your hammock on the spacious balcony overlooking the best part of Tulum beach. The Italian/Brazilian owners, Simone & Thais, and their staff are wonderful people who made us feel so completely at home during our week with them. Breakfast on the deck overlooking the ocean was a fabulous way to start each day with one of their spectacular cappacinos, a tasty bread/pastry selection and thoughtfully decorated fresh fruit plate. In fact, the food in the restaurant really does deserve a special mention as we were thoroughly spoiled by their chef, Roberto, throughout our stay. The much-loved resident hounds, Tequila & Polo, also get a special shout out --- l miss those sandy dogs! We were also lucky enough to be there during turtle-hatching season and were treated to three nights of baby turtles scurrying to the ocean from the surrounding dunes --- we even got to help a few stragglers along their way. We absolutely loved our stay at Villas Las Estrellas and are planning a return visit already.

I had seen the Villa Las Estrellas under construction last year, and I assumed it was going to be a private villa. I was so happy to discover what a beautiful place it has become, especially since my friend and I wanted to escape from another room on the beach and needed a new home.

We stopped in after breakfast one morning and met Simone, the young Italian-born owner, his beautiful Brazilian wife Thais and their family, and absolutely fell in love with the place and its beautiful, open design. Warm plaster walls and white-painted wood make it feel like the beach house you always wish you could have.

There are six rooms; four of them are large suite-type rooms with a 4-poster king plus a single (I slept on the single all week and was very comfortable), and the single has a trundle underneath for extra guests. There are also two smaller king rooms, no extra beds. All rooms have beautiful, large covered decks overlooking the beach, with hammocks and tables and chairs. So basically, each room has a living room.

We stayed in one of the suites and the bathroom was huge and beautiful and brightly lit. The construction of the building was so solid that I could move around the room (including flushing the toilet and brushing my teeth) while my friend was sleeping and didn't wake her at all. I'm even thinking that this place will be great for my 81-year-old mother because there's a paved path from the gravel parking area up to the house, and the rooms are all connected to the main space with hardwood floors. I love all the sand at other places in Tulum, but this will make it much easier for my mom. I'm not saying it's ADA-approved, since there are steps in the paving, but better for families of wide-ranging ages than most places in Tulum.

Each room has private access to the beach (via spiral staircases if upstairs, and little gates shut off each deck at the top for kid protection), and the restaurant is open to the breezes. We were there in September, and the main living space always felt like it was air-conditioned from the sea breezes.

The chef is fantastic, the staff is happy, the beach is perfect. Even the beach dogs are better than most Tulum beach dogs. These boys are true pets, loved, fed, protected and well trained. What a wonderful addition to the Tulum beach scene.

The restaurant is open to the public, so if you happen to be walking by, you should stop in for a drink or a bite and ask to see the place. If you're there for lunch, I highly recommend the pulpo or the chicken wings. Not Buffalo style, but amazing chicken wings, truly. With a frosty beer, delicious. But really, every dish I saw was great. And keep an eye on the kitchen if you're a dessert fan. One evening we saw fresh tarts coming out of the oven, and came home to some spectacular desserts.

By the way, it's located just south of Los Lirios, a bit north of Petit Shambala, in an area that has been completely vacant for a long time. In case they don't put contact info on the header for this page, their website is www.villalasestrellas.com.

Feel free to ask me any questions, and I often post on the forums here, so we can discuss it over there as well. Hope you love it too!
