“Paradise on the Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

We stayed at Cabanas la Conchita with friends in cabana #2 and had a wonderful experience. The cabanas are very clean and comfortable, and they are all very beautiful. The beach access is perfect--so easy--just steps away. The sunrises on the beach were spectacular as was the breakfast (included with your stay). Everyone loved their meals that were prepared fresh for us each morning. Even the coffee was good! I especially loved lounging in the hammocks at the cabanas and the nice chairs at the beach.
We really loved everything about this place. Granted, it's a bit different going without electricity for most of the day, and having a mosquito net over your bed, but it was all part of the fun and we were more than comfortable through the whole experience (I say that having a severe bug and spider phobia--if I can handle the nets anyone can!). We had some lizards visit our room but we enjoyed the company (all part of the fun!) and getting photos of them. We did not miss having air conditioning while we were there. The weather was fairly hot but with the ocean breezes and the palapa roof we were quite comfortable.
The service was SO great--really a very friendly and helpful staff. Everyone, from the front desk to the housekeeping and breakfast staff was so helpful and pleasant. They even filled a cooler with ice for us to keep at our cabana for drink storage.
The beach was so beautiful and very good for swimming--not rocky and NOT CROWDED!--and we enjoyed a little body surfing! You can order food and drinks from one of the waiters at the hotel and restaurant next door.
The cabanas are located in the heart of the fun on the Tulum beach strip but they are removed from the street so they are incredibly peaceful. There is a lot to do nearby and you can easily walk, bike or take a cab anywhere you want to go. We went to a concert for three nights at Zamas, which was a lot of fun. We loved the food and smoothies at Mateos' just a few steps away, and of course visiting the Tulum ruins and beach was a blast. We loved Conchita and will absolutely be going back to this lovely little escape with its wonderful little beach.

Room Tip: Rooms closest to the beach or 2nd floor rooms get the sea breezes and stay cooler. Really all of th...

We had an amazing 4 nights in March at Cabanas la Conchita. The cabanas are directly on the beach and it was heaven to wake up each morning to have sand at your feet and hear the waves crashing. We stayed in Cabana 6 which was great and often sat out on the balcony or lay in the hammock and enjoyed the view. The cabanas are very well located with a number of restaurants and a small supermarket within a few minutes walk.

The breakfasts are fantastic and we tried everything on the menu with the favourites being omelette with the lot and the beautiful fresh fruit. The staff at the front desk were always extremely helpful and willing to assist whenever we had questions. The fact that there was only electricity from 6-10pm each day didn't matter. The only complaint would be that the showers were often a trickle of water, but it certainly didn't impact our stay.

Mateos is a short 2 minute walk away and we visited a few times and had excellent meals there. The fish tacos were tasty and coconut cocktails very large and delicious.

We were very sad to leave and hope we will return to Tulum again. We will definitely stay at La Conchita if we are lucky enough to visit again.

Room Tip: Cabanas 6 had a lovely view of the ocean due to its elevation.

We spent one night at Cabanas la Conchita. The place is gorgeous but expensive compared to other places and has limited access to the beach. You can bathe in the cove right in front of the cabanas but have to stay very close to the shore. If you want to take a nice walk along the beach, you have to walk quite a distance on the little road before reaching the rest of the coastline.
We had the two room cabana which was very cosy and beautiful.
The included breakfast is delicious.
You can rent bicycles in different places along the little road. We went on a nice 15 minute ride to the ruins of Tulum.
Cabanas la Conchita is definitely a nice place to relax.

We had originally hoped to spend 2 weeks here, but when only 1 week was available we decided to spend our first week in a hotel in Tulum town, and then our second in this paradise. I'm so happy it wasn't available for the whole 2 weeks!
We are a young (mid-twenties) couple, and within an hour of arriving we were missing our beautiful (and 1/2 the price) hotel in town. Town is not far from the beach at all, a beautiful bike ride on a paved bike path outfitted with palapa style shelters for shade and a rest every few minutes.
The pros:
The staff were so amazing, super friendly, always smiling and helpful.
The beach, it is a very short walk to the main beach, and you basically have a private beach at la conchita, with only 2 other small hotels on it. The most picturesque beach we saw is on this property, though we did bike to the south end every day to swim as I had family staying at that end, and we preferred the swimming at that end. Though that shouldn't sway anyone from staying here, it is still a beautiful beach to swim at.
Breakfast was fantastic, but you can find wonderful breakfast along the beach road for quite cheap. We were actually very impressed with the prices on the beach road, our most expensive dinner was nearby at Zama's which included live music, 3 coronas, lemonade and amazing fresh food for $30 usd!
The quiet, it really was so peaceful, the beach loungers were lovely, and laying in the hammock was paradise.
The cons:
We were looking forward to rustic, the lack of electricity, mosquito netting... But in our cabana (#7) you couldn't see anything in the daytime! In the morning, I needed a flashlight to put my contacts in and to shower, perhaps they could have laid them out so the daylight would come in.
The shower head could have used replacing, I'm not a fussy traveller at all, but in reality for $150 a night a shower head that wasn't completely covered in green rust and let out a little more than a steady streamy drip of water would have been nice. Maybe we were spoiled at our wonderful hotel in town.
Mosquito nets really are not as romantic as they look, your sleeping space is gravely reduced with the net, but we didn't have a problem with heat at night because there really is a great fan mounted just above the pillows.
All in all, having experienced both town and the beach, I think next time we will stay in town and then splurge for a really nice place on the beach for just a couple days. A broom in the room would have been nice for the sand, and as hot as it is in Mexico not a single thing would dry hanging in the room, it just did not get enough sunlight. Most places on the beach have wifi, and as much as I love to unplug it really would have been nice to be able to research some places to visit. Mateo's grill is a fantastic restaurant nearby, and they offer free wifi.
I can't really say anything bad about this place, but we never dreamed that we would have enjoyed our first week in town more than the second.
From what we saw, no room is a bad choice, they all have pretty much the same view, and same level of privacy on each deck (which is zero, all the rooms face eachother). Except for number one, which we had tried to get, but are happy we did not, as it was exactly the same as ours but in the very front, and $20 more a night. We loved it, but the cabana was just missing the loving touches to make us want to return.

If you must have air-cond, TV, luxury, and compete with others on the latest fashions - stay elsewhere. If, however, you want to truly let go of stress and worries, reconnect with nature and yourself and enjoy a wonderful beach, a magical, starry night sky, and have helpful, unobtrusive, caring, capable staff available, whenever you need them, then stay here.
As other reviewers have mentioned, it is rustic - yes.
But it will remind you how truly little we need to be very, very happy.
Sort of like when we were kids.

If you want electricity 24 hours a day, and enjoy large resort all inclusive hotels look elsewhere! If however, you like being met by the owner on arrival and shown to your thatched roof cabana overlooking the sea and want to relax on the beach in a private cove this is the place for you!

We stayed in Cabana no.4 which had a sea view through the palm trees when laid in your hammock on the balcony (although you do face onto the roof of another cabana - I would choose no.6 or no.1 if we returned)

The room was basic (a bed with a mosquito net, a small table and 2 wardrobes) but large and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was a little small and not much power in the shower but that is a minor point.

A good breakfast was made to order each day. For lunch you could drive to places down the road for a change of scenery (Zigi's on a lovely stretch of beach was upmarket but very slow service), or if feeling lazy the Buenos Aires steak house next door to La Conchitas would bring you food and ice cold Coronas to your sun lounger!

For dinner, there are lots of places to eat and drink within a 5 min walk, Mateo's and Zamas in particular were very good.

Overall, a fabulous 4 days in a place where it's impossible not to relax!

Room Tip: Cabana no 1 is literally on the beach. No.6 looks onto the beach unobstructed

Just returned from my second visit to Tulum and both times have stayed at this lovely place. Last year I met with friends from Germany and right then and there decided we would meet again this year, this time including additional friends from Switzerland and Moscow. While options abound and in all fairness some other accommodations are also lovely, without a question, we would always return to Cabanas la Conchita. Pricing is fair, breakfast is one of the highlights, staff friendliness and support outstanding, clean, perfectly located, with easy access to restaurants, other beaches, town, yoga classes....And all this while maintaining a sense of romance, privacy, beauty, non-commercialism, avoidance of the dreaded "resort experience", and at no cost whatesoever in regard to quality. A magical experience!
