“Wonderful place to stay, thoroughly recommend it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

We loved staying at Green Tulum. It was away from the mega touristy part of Tulum, lovely cabanas with lovely decor. The beds were 4 poster with lovely light mesh around them. I thought I had walked into a honeymoon destination. The manager Lazaro was very helpful. He provided us with another fan to ensure we were comfortable in the room. The cabanas can get hot, but with the additional fan it was fine. The hammocks outside were lovely to relax on, and we spent a lot of time around the pool which was equally beautiful. Breakfast was buffet style and we were so happy to finally have cereal on our holiday (rather than a tortilla breakfast) I kept going back for more! Everyone was very helpful. Our toilet broke during our stay and it was fixed in 10minutes.
The cabanas are near to the road, but I did not notice any noise during our stay, it was a wonderful place to stay and I thoroughly recommend it. Also great value for money.

We just finished our stay at Green Tulum and there were many ups and downs. For one, as others have said a few of the rooms are right next to the road, and knowing this upon arrival we asked if they could switch our room however, the man, Ricardo, said he could not help us until the manager, Lazaro, showed up. So we decided to stick it out for the first night however Lazaro never showed up in the 5 days we stayed at Green Tulum, so the management is a little sketchy. And we never got our room switched even though we saw Ricardo checking in other guests daily.

Breakfast- good, RIcardo (the "manager"??) offered to cook for us on the first day eggs and bacon and the rest of the days we awkwardly waited for him to offer until we decided to go up to the kitchen and request a hot breakfast.

The great thing about this place is that it is a pretty good deal and the rooms are clean and open. Also the location is fantastic, having the option to walk into town whenever we wanted was so great especially because the night life and food is phenomenal. It was nice to rent bikes straight from the hotel too, only 20 dollars for all day. The pool was a nice touch however the "poolside bar" only holds sodas and when we ordered alcohol the only thing they had chilled was a bottle of white wine and they charged around 8 dollars for a tiny glass.

All in all, its a great place because of the location and because there is so much to do the status of the hotel is a bit overlooked because you keep yourself very entertained. Most of the staff is great, however we are very confused about the management.

We stayed here rather than the ¨beach strip¨as we did not have a car and wanted access to bus station and other transport. The location was on the south side of town with a 15 min walk to town or 5 min to a fabulous seafood retuarant. A taxi could easily be hailed if one did not want to walk and at little cost.
The rooms are in Cabana style and we stayed in an upstairs cabana which was cool with a nice breeze. The rooms were a good size with bathroom and very comfortable. They are set in a tropical style garden so appear secluded.
There is a pool and a bar and very good service from the staff and also the owner- Nothing was any trouble at all and very friendly.
A good breakfast was included, but other meals are obtained in the town.
If any on the negative side there was some road noise from trucks in the early morning.

The location of the hotel is not so good. It was quite noisy at night, with dogs, children crying and chainsaws.
The rooms are nice, with a soft mattress and clean. The little wardrobe in the room had a funny smell and no hangers. They only gave us the nice organic shampoo and soap on the last day we were there, I don't know if that is the standard.
There was no hot water on the shower early in the morning, you had to let it run for about 30 minutes to get hot water.
The complimentary breakfast did not have any fruit on the first three days.
I would say it is good if you are not very picky.

Great on the ecology - shells used for light fittings, taps. Lovely cabins, not right in the centre - a bit of a hike - but the staff went out of their way to help, including allowing me to use their office internet. Wow!

We were looking for somewhere to stay in Tulum near the bus station and also with wifi. So the hotel is just outside the town just off the main road but close enough to hear all the trucks parking in the service station. Therefore it still required a taxi ride to get to/from the bus station. Not really a problem though as there are plenty available. Our second requirement - wifi as we a) need to book transport/rooms for the next stays on our trip. There was a good wifi connection - but not to the outside world! It was only when we had to prove our booking was the internet access turned on - for 15 minutes. After that it was never seen again. The excuse was - "this is Mexico".This was not an issue anywhere in our 3 week trip to some of the remotest places so we assumed this was a simple cost-cutting exercise. The next problem was the cabanas. They looked pretty but were on two floors. Despite Green Tulum being half empty we were given a ground floor room directly below an occupied room. There is no sound-proofing. Every step on the floor above made us jump - it was so lound. In addition we could hear all talking and know the person above went to the bathroom at 11:30, midnight, 1:30am, 2:45 am and 4:00 am. The rooms do not have curtains but instead have shutters to cover the fly screens. You have a choice - close the shutters and fry in the dark " green" (non-aircon) rooms or keep the the shutters open and everyone can see you in bed etc as they walk past or up the stairs to the rooms above. There was a ceiling fan and pretty white muslin covered 4 poster canopy bed. The covers keep most of the effect of the fan from reaching you in bed - but worse still the canopy is covered in a sheet of "green?" plastic which blocks all draft, keeps in the heat and also rustles all night.
The breakfast buffet consisted of 3 types of cereal, sterilised milk, jam, a samovar of coffee, tea bags and strawberry jam. There were no plates or hot water for the tea... or toast. We had to ask for toast. We were allocated 3 sliced of white ...and then had to request plates. The folk on the table next to us were usung paper napkins instead of plates .....

Finally, everywhere were envelopes or trays for TIPS.

The only good point about the hotel was the cleanlines of the rooms and sheets. Howver my towel was ripped.

We were there 5 nights and we had a nice time there! The owner and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. They ordered taxi for us every day, made breakfast, and was also helpful with other things like delivering clothes to laundry. They cleaned rooms and changed towels every day. The hotel area are beautiful with green plants everywhere, and it have relaxing sun chairs and pool bar. The hotel is in the end of Tulum town and it is some kilometers to the beach. You have to go to the beach by taxi or bicykling. Taxi is cheap and easy. We would love to come back here some day!
