“Unbelievably Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Such history in such a beautiful location! This is a not-to-be missed attraction when in the area! Go when it opens at 8am and you'll have the place nearly to yourself. Only drawback, which I can understand, is that you cannot climb any of the ruins. There is a beautiful beach that is usually accessible...not sure why it was roped off when we were there.

“Visit early to avoid the crowds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

We stayed in Tulum and had our own car, so we were able to get to the ruins right as they opened, and we were really glad we did. The tour buses show up quickly here and it gets very crowded. It is also a very open site, so for those of you who sunburn easily, bring your sunblock! If you come to the ruins without a tour, as we did, there are tour guides for hire from the kiosk in the parking lot. A very nice fellow named Nefi gave us a great tour.

And while I don't have kids, if you have young boys, these ruins have an abundance of iguanas. We had a great time watching the kids chase those big lizards into the tour groups!

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Nothing can describe the wonder of this place. I've been 3 times now and every time it's just more and more amazing. The guided tours don't let you explore the wonder, if anything just grab a book with some info.

Don't forget swim gear too!! Awesome beach there!!

“Tulum: hot & crowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

Visited the Tulum Maya ruins in Mar 2013 as part of a ship shore excursion. The ruins are in an attractive setting on a cliff overlooking the sea. The site is from an early Mayan era and there is not much visible carving or adornment on the buildings. The ruins are in decent repair and are roped off to prevent visitors climbing on them. This is a good arrangement since the park was very crowded. There is also a public beach at the ruins reached by a long staircase down the cliff. The day we visited the beach was so crowded there was no beach space unoccupied. The escorted shore excursion had the advantage of a tour guide who was able to explain some of the layout of the ruins and purpose of the individual buildings. There are no explanatory signs but perhaps the park sells a guidebook. All in all, the trip was worth the effort.

“Definitely worth a visit when in Tulum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013 via mobile

Beautiful setting by the seaside and will give a "perfect amount" of mayan culture and architecture if you are the moderately interested type (like me). We also went to Chichen Itza but found Tulum to be almost more interesting and beautiful, and not nearly as crowded.
