“Bohemian cabanas with amazing views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

I planned a last minute trip here and was able to get a room for the first night - we were looking for a very "Tulum" place to stay for a romantic, relaxing holiday. Tulum kind of place being hip but simple and bohemian, true to the local flavor and not fancy, but definitely comfortable and private. Because it was last minute, we weren't able to book a solid room for the entirety of our stay and instead changed rooms every night. Every room we had was incredibly right on the perfect white sand beach, going to sleep with the gently ocean breeze was a dream.

I can't say enough for how kind and accommodating the staff was here - definitely the reason we decided to stay here our entire trip (instead of moving to a new place as was our original plan after the first night). On top of it, the included breakfast and excellent service at a very reasonable price made it perfect.

Room Tip: Definitely stay in rooms/cabanas with the ocean front - the view is worth it! May is also a great t...

Dear carrie2play:

Reviews like yours make our effort to accomodate our guests, a true pleasure. We are so glad that you were able to try different rooms on your stay, we do recommend guests to do so since each one has a it's own personal touch and can choose from truly rustic to modern rustic, to outside private showers in the jungle. Make no mistake, everyone who has tried it, has left loving the changes. If you should decide to come back, don't forget to try the new Cabana called Beso, a huge round structure with a terracce overlooking the jungle and equipped with a small kitchen and refrigerator. Don't miss it.
Thank you very much for your wonderful review

I really do wish I could give a better review, I really, really do! I know they try very hard and maybe it was just our unit. Maybe it was because we came after spending a week at the Rosewood Mayakoba... I just don't know! The place is beyond rustic with not may amenities at all, which includes normal things I guess I take for granted like hot water and maybe a simple hair dryer! I asked a few times for a futon couch to be taken out of our "house" because it smelled really bad of mold and mildew, but my husband and I finally had to take it out ourselves because nobody listened! We stayed in the Mayan house, #13 and man, it was not terribly fun! It's kinda like going back to Girl Scout camp but paying $185 a night to do so. It is horribly overpriced for what it is but I'm not sure the owners know it! Also, the huts are right on top of each other which makes it hard to have privacy. The beach was nice but the surf was not swim able due to the really rough waves (obviously not the hotels fault). Tulum seems to have a very unique vibe with some great food, but I think we were lead far astray with this hotel.

Dear bmorrone:

We are always sad to hear when our guests did not enjoy their stay with us. It is understandable that the contrast with the hotel where you stayed before visiting us had an impact, specially if you were expecting the same type of accommodations. While the Rosewood is a luxury five star hotel, we are an ecolodge, our electricity is powered by solar panels, hence the use of air conditioning, hairdryers and other high consuming power amenities is not offered. It is surprising you mention the lack of hot water since all our rooms have hot water 24 hours a day. We have different rooms for every taste and needs, Casa Maya, where you stayed, was designed for families looking for a quiet and rustic getaway, with the master bedroom on the second floor and the connecting stairs to the ground floor with two sofa beds for the children.
Rest assured that we will look into the smell of the futon. We are sorry you did not stay in a unit that might have work better for you, perhaps the suites at Zona Corazon, these are for guests interested to stay in a more modern rustic ambiance and are only for couples.

A beautiful, perfect resort right on the ocean. It feels like you're alone in the middle of the jungle, but with breakfast in bed and total security. The staff were very helpful and friendly, although you're better off going directly to a vendor booth for guided tours than the tours they recommend. Breakfast was delicious -- fresh fruit and bread with coffee and fresh squeezed juices. I can't say enough about the perfection of the room, my girlfriend was ecstatic.

We had a wonderful stay at NVR - the staff were so sweet and accommodating, the rooms were clean and large and the beach was absolutely amazing. We were a group of 4 and split up between the Magico Amanecer Suite and the Blanco Amanecer Suite. Magico Amancer was right on the beach with an awesome front porch equipped with a hammock and comfy beach chairs while Blanco Amanecer Suite was quite a bit larger though it was a back from the beach with an obstructed ocean view. That said, they were both great rooms steps from the lovely beach area that offered hammocks, beach beds and chairs.
The only thing that was a disappointment was the breakfast. The coffee was so bad that I couldn't drink more than a sip and the toast was stale. Even though the breakfast as NVR was included, we ended up leaving and going to Posada Margarita for breakfast.
Breakfast aside, I would definitely stay at NVR again if (or when!) I return to Tulum. I'm already dreaming of our next visit!

Room Tip: Magico Amanecer is RIGHT on the beach with an amazing view.

Dear Bergen17:

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with the quality of the breakfast, hence we had a meeting with their management as we always do after a negative review which they take very seriously and have since not only increased supervision of quality of their handmade bread and freshly brewed coffee, but have also decided not to charge for any additional coffee, bread or juice if the guests should decide to have some more.
Don't let go of you dream to visit us again, we guarantee you will not be disappointed with breakfast anymore.

I stayed at Nueva Vida de Ramiro for a long weekend and I enjoyed it very much. The staff was really friendly and greeted us with fresh fruit juice when we checked in. Yes, there are some drawbacks: the hotel property is dark at night (bring a small flashlight); the shower water doesn't really get hot; and, the property feels somewhat isolated. However, I like that it is a smaller hotel with individual buildings and I liked that our room had an outdoor shower under the stars. We stayed in the Lirio room and loved it. It's not located on the beach but the beach is only a few steps away. The beach in front of NV was definitely less crowded than other parts of the beach and the hotel's beach furniture was one of the highlights as they had enough beach beds, hanging beds, umbrellas, etc for the guests. We supplemented our free Casa Banana breakfast with something off the menu and yes, the service was slow but come on; you're on a beach vacation in a yoga town so what should you expect. Overall, I was really happy with our stay and I would go back!

Friendly staff. We stayed oceanfront so we had the ocean breeze and it cooled the room. We stayed in Horizonte perdido which is closest to the ocean so the breeze is strong and you hear the wave action at night. Beware, if you choose an inner jungle accommodation it will be hot as you will not get the ocean breeze. Our unit was immaculate. Your water source is a mixture of fresh/salt water so they give you a bottle of water to brush your teeth. Wifi is not great/ not consistent so if you are vacationing and attempting to work it can be a problem. From what I understand most/all hotels on the beach have the same issue.
My only real issue was Casa Banana which is where you go for your American breakfast. They do offer you the option of going to a restaurant in the town of Tulum should you desire something more substantial than a piece of bread ( which will fit in your palm and you split that with your companion), fruit and one cup of coffee. This drive to Tulum will take you at least 20 minutes one way. I feel they should offer the same breakfast option at Casa Banana as they have the facilities to cook the same breakfast. That said, be aware that if you decide you want another piece of bread it will cost you 75 pesos which is $6.25 in American dollars for one piece of bread that will fit in the palm of a ladies hand. Not two pieces, not a baguette but one piece. If you ask for another cup of coffee it will cost you 25 pesos which is a little over $2.00. No free refills here. The fruit plate they offer looks nice but most times the fruit isn't ripe (other than the mango and banana). Casa Banana is well known for being expensive so be prepared!
I do suggest that you stop at the the grocery store on your way to the hotel which you pass on the road to the beach. You can't miss it as it will be on your left. Pick up a $6 styrofoam ice chest and a $3 bag of ice that will last you about 36 hours. Get your beer/soft drinks/wine/yogurt/snacks perhaps a roasted chicken like Costco sells (this one will cost you 75 pesos which is $6.25..the same cost as a piece of bread at Casa Banana). Once you get to the hotel you really don't have any options for snacks other than driving another 20 minutes into town. It's nice to have this in your room because once lunchtime arrives you are now searching for a place to eat (and most are overpriced) and it takes time away from enjoying the incredible beaches here. Plan ahead! And do beware because you will need to secure these snacks from the tiny bugs in the jungle. We kept all our snacks in the styrofoam cooler just in case!
So in summary we would stay at the hotel again because the privacy and the location was great. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. From what I understand Casa Banana is owned by the hotel but managed by others. To bad the hotel doesn't manage the restaurant also.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a room on the beach. Yes, it's double (and expensive) but without the...

Dear inlovewithparis60:

Thank you for your review and it's always great to read that the rooms are immaculate and that you were happy with our staff. We will be sending a copy of this review to Casa Banana, although it is in Nueva Vida de Ramiro's grounds it is a concession and the hotel has no say on their prices, but we do like to make sure that the breakfast is fair since it is part of our service to our guests. So we are grateful for you pointing out the bread situation and will make sure guests are satisfied with the included breakfast.
Best regards from all of our team, and since you mention coming back to the hotel, next time when you make a reservation you can add in the comments that you will be needing a cooler for your stay. We recycle the coolers the past guests have left and we are more than happy to lend you one for our stay. To make things even better, we just made an arrangement with a grocery store that actually does delivery to the hotel of basic needs for traveler: ice, beer, wine, chips, etc. We look forward to seeing you again.

We moved here after spending the first days at another place in tulum, mad they were running out of rooms. We paid 250 dollars for an ocean front villa, after paying 375 dollars for an ocean front suite at the other place. The price was fair and the views amazing. Very relaxing stay. They have a large property with a few ocean front villas and few forest rooms. You feel secluded and is a good place for a couple who wants tranquility and amazing seaside.
The breakfast is included, but not great. You might want to get a breakfast somewhere else. No other facilities were there.
The room itself has a smell. As it is an ecological lodge, there is no AC, but the breeze keeps the room cool over night. We stayed at number 15. They also offer individual parking.
The entrance to the Sian kaan natural reserve is just a few steps ahead.
