We were a little nervous as we headed out to Mexico, given some of the reviews of different beach hotels we had read online (e.g. bugs, scorpions, no electricity) but Nueva Vida de Ramira quickly dispelled all fears. We stayed in the largest house, Casa Mexicana, and found not only a lot of space, but clean rooms, large clean towels and bottles of water every day, cool ocean breezes, and wonderful hotel staff (thank you Ricardo!), only feet from a gorgeous beach and not far from a wonderful restaurant, La Zebra, where we practically lived whenever we were not on our beach. There were a few small problems (e.g. no water one morning), but they were fixed, literally, within minutes. The only small issue was that, because it is an "eco" hotel, the lights were few and dim, so it was difficult to see well enough to cook in the evenings (and given the relative lack of cooking utensils, it didn't seem to be expected.) This did leave us free to sample all the wonderful restaurants on the beach. Recommended: Zebra, Zamas, Don Cafeto (towards the ruins), Violeta, and for an upscale evening, Ana y Jose. Ricardo recommended several of these, helped us find tours and a fishing trip, and was generally a wonderful host. A great week at Nueva Vida.
