“Believe the hype - best local food at bargain prices”

We visited the El Fogón on 30th and 32nd street (I believe they have three locations, and from what i was told this was the original)

We just hopped in a cab, said "El Fogón por favor" the cab driver then asked "¿Qual?" and we said "Calle trienta y dos"

We had barely stopped before a friendly waiter greeted us and walked us over to a nice table with a view of the TV which had Lucha Libre on. We were the only tourists there. It was about 10pm and there were many people having nice meals.

If you find yourself without any english-speaking waiters just ask for some jugo or a cervesa and "tacos al pastor con queso". Be sure to get the totopos with guacamole as well.

They had very clean bathrooms, and the total bill for two came out to something like $15US. A real bargain! Do not miss your chance to have authentic Mexican food away from the madness of Avenida Quinta.

“Tacos in Playa del Carmen”

El Fogon is the best place I know to eat tacos al pastor in Playa del Carmen. It is a typical mexican taco restaurant - very basic and not a place to have a fancy dinner but very good food and friendly service. As they are open late it is also an ideal place to stop by on the way back home from one of the many clubs and bars. I think they have two restaurants in Playa del Carmen - unfortunately both are a bit away from 5 avenue.

Dropped in on the recommendation of a friend... everything they said they read about was true... open to street... excellent food... only problem there is no english version of the menu... but we just pointed and ordered... one of the cheapest meals we had downtown.. and one of the best...
Hot as hell... because of the grill... being close to the seating area... and it was 88 degrees outside... but the cold beer took care of that !
Will go back whenever I am there again.. !

This place has the best margarita´s in Playa and the best bean soup I have ever tasted. Their tacos are excellent also as is the guac but the beef steak special and the beef fajitas were not worth eating. The staff is helpful and accomodating. Would certainly return (actully did) just to have a bown of the bean soup....it is fantastic.

“Real Mexican Tacos and Food, not Touristy!”

We love authentic foods when traveling and this place is great for that. Great food and great value.

Not a place for resort style travelers though, although everyone really should get away from staying at All Inclusives:)
